The man deserves a medal. He obviously agrees with Frank Zapper (see below), took the risk and deviated in the best way possible. Good on him.

Currently well into the new Peter Fitzsimons' book on Sir Charles Kingsford-Smith. It's a really good read. The hardback is rather expensive but I guess it will eventually be out in softback too. There's a lot more to Smithy than I thought.
