Guest Old_Plane_Nut Posted May 20, 2010 Posted May 20, 2010 Pietinpol Aircamper Yes Ozzie, all going well we will be there Jim
dazza 38 Posted May 22, 2010 Posted May 22, 2010 We were out at Childers last month and saw Chinoock 10-003. It's still flying and doing plenty of hours (unlike our Scout which is still in the shed awaiting work). As noted earlier 10-001 was reassigned to a later aircraft so this is now the second oldest 95-10. There were a lot of 25- registered Thrusters that have older registration.Great to see these early types still punching holes in the air. Sue There is a chinook, in one of the hangars at Boonah, going by the dust all over it, it hasnt flown for a long time(years by the look of her).Apparently the owner hasnt paid hangar rent for a long time either, the owner of the hangar was going to push it out of the hangar. It is still their though, in the hangar, this information is third hand, so to speak, so it is not Gospel or anything. If someone is interested on a 95-10 chinook, i will try and find out who the owner is,maybe they will sell her cheap.
dazza 38 Posted May 22, 2010 Posted May 22, 2010 is this a 1 or 2. early type with 277 rotax? Hi ozzie, it wasnt a 277, maybe 447, two cylinders, didnt take much of a look, i didnt even note if it was a two seater or single seater. The hangar is normaly locked, i have only been in there if someone has it opened. I will find out. PS-I have been going through my memory im sure it is a single seater, bet my left nut on it.
Spin Posted May 22, 2010 Posted May 22, 2010 Anyone recognise this? Seen at Watts Bridge this morning, although most decidedly not airworthy .
Guest ozzie Posted May 22, 2010 Posted May 22, 2010 I'd go with a modified 'cab wasp'. the v tail has been changed or maybe a few wasps were built with a normal tail. What is it powered by? any more photos deatils? ozzie
Spin Posted May 22, 2010 Posted May 22, 2010 Not airworthy..... wild assumption based on the fact that the trailing edge of the wing was tied on with a bit of ye olde blue and yellow rope as used by Telstra to draw cable through conduit. Ozzie come to think of it there was something about "Cab" on the tail, I'll dig around and see whether the rest of the photos show any more detail. Usual story, I had a quick look, fully intending to come back and then got side tracked by the ever expanding array of aircraft out on the apron.

Single seat (i think the two seat was S2) it has a wing warp system. Fell easily within the 4/400 rules of the day. I found the 277 version to fly really nice. about 35mph cruise. i think it's max weight was about 550lb. You guys are a bit slow. i'd have it dusted off and started by now.
Guest ozzie Posted May 22, 2010 Posted May 22, 2010 I just don't have any more room/time. it would be great to be able to have a shed full of various rag and tube types. Hard to find enough time as it is.
Spin Posted May 22, 2010 Posted May 22, 2010 Ozzie, here are the only other photographs that show anything useful. Good call on the Cab Wasp, I see there is a decal on the tank.
winsor68 Posted May 22, 2010 Posted May 22, 2010 What a nice looking little machine... seems like a grown up scout. Now why aren't these sort of aircraft still being manufactured?
pudestcon Posted May 22, 2010 Posted May 22, 2010 What a nice looking little machine... seems like a grown up scout. Now why aren't these sort of aircraft still being manufactured? Well I reckon you know winsor68; it's all to do with commercial reality where if there was a true demand then that would be met by some manufacturer and at a fair price. But you and I can wish all we like until our nostalgic hearts are content, but it ain't gonna happen - more's the pity:sad: Pud
Guest ozzie Posted May 23, 2010 Posted May 23, 2010 First time i have seen one without the V tail. The motor is a early victa the flat plate deck model. chain drive. the exhaust stinger can be moved in and out of the chamber to fine tune the power. this is the same setup as used on the original mk 1 scout. The Cab Wasp was built by Cab Industries near Gunadah. If you give Ron Wheeler a ring he will probably knock you up a new Scout. Dick Smith has a new one and several went to New Zealand a couple of years ago. Be surprised just what is still hopping around the country side.
