Guest Maj Millard Posted April 17, 2010 Posted April 17, 2010 Some photos of Shute harbour developments for Ozzie. You may have seen the residential airpark advertised in the aviation press as 'The Wave'. There are acres of new concrete pavement, and new asphalt runway and taxiways which are shared with the residential vehicular traffic. One $mil+ house/hangar is completed, and the second is near completion. Several new hangars have also been erected. All up there are around 70 house sites offered. It is adjacent airlie beach and Hamilton Is., in the Whitsundays NQld, which is the area recently touched up by Cyclone Ilui. There's are also some in-hangar shots of a very nice IO360 Lancair, which is for sale. Workmanship is supurb........................................Maj..
Guest ozzie Posted April 17, 2010 Posted April 17, 2010 Great photos Major. Shute is a completly different place. Millions have been thrown at it. Looks a lot more user friendly in the wet season and comes across as very up market. Does Geoff still own the place? One thing they will never fix there is all that turbulance.
winsor68 Posted April 17, 2010 Posted April 17, 2010 I think I have seen that Lancair parked at Mackay... is that the one with the fancy paint that seems to transform as you view it from different angles? Also Major while you are in the area you should check out Lakeside Bloomsbury Airstrip just a short flight from the Wave Airpark... A gentlemen called Doug Belbin is building a Rv wing mated with a Terrier Fuselage... Landing is from the North regardless of wind direction... Doug assured me that the hill will ensure you land in no wind condition every time. http://yippyio.net/1Airfield/YLAK.pdf
Guest ozzie Posted April 17, 2010 Posted April 17, 2010 yeah the Lancair that is painted in Opalene changes colors when viewed from different angles. I wrote a short article on that aircraft for pac flyer when they put it in the air for the first time. it must be 10/11 year old now. has a worked over lycoming in it. Ozzie
Guest Maj Millard Posted April 18, 2010 Posted April 18, 2010 Ozzie, Your right, they never will fix the turbulance, which is why it is a minimum 200 hr type airstrip, and yes Geoffry Ruddle still owns the place. Yes the lancair has been to Mackay I'm sure. Built and owned by Col Wadingham who was chief engineer at Hamilton Is when I was there. First class job all the way, I can't believe he is selling it. The custom made Hoffman prop is worth a small fortune alone. And of course the beautifull paint job. I'll be posting a for sale ad in the classifieds for Col shortly. Windsor, Yes I have been over to lakeside a couple of times, Top spot, and I have met Doug and viewed his project. I'll probabily got over there again shortly now that I am back at Shute for a bit. Great little strip all right.......................................................Maj..
