Admin Posted April 19, 2010 Posted April 19, 2010 Updated 27 April 2010: Share the passion — NOR-RAAus Fly-in 2010 The RA-Aus north Queensland region will host their inaugural annual fly-in during the Queen's Birthday weekend — 12, 13 and 14 June 2010 at Monto. The continuing growth in RA-Aus membership has provided a membership base sufficiently large to support an annual fly-in that primarily serves participants from Queensland and northern NSW. Such fly-ins encourage enthusiasm and passion for Recreational Aviation. Planning for our future by providing events like these for our members — and for other aviation enthusiasts — is of the highest priority. RA-Aus welcomes all aviators, their friends and their families and looks forward to seeing visitors from around the nation, all enjoying a northern fly-in experience with a difference. There will be plenty of activities; forums, aviation exhibitors and entertainment on Saturday and Sunday nights. More details will be posted as they become available. Whether you are a veteran member or just joined us or are thinking about it, then join in and share the passion. Spin a yarn and a joke or two with your mates over a nice cold one — or perhaps two. So come and join us; wherever you are, it's your fly-in. The RA-Aus president and CEO, the operations and technical managers plus some of the Canberra staff will be there. Meet them all and discuss your favourite subject — you might even tell them what a great job they are doing. The RA-Aus headquarters tent will be at the entrance to the exhibitor area. Exhibitor registrations and interest from well known sponsors is gaining momentum, so there will be plenty to see and do. So pack your bags and fuel the aircraft; alternatively fuel the car and hook on the caravan, or just take a bus to Monto and join us there to share that passion. The forums — to be held on Sunday — include: 'Operations' — Lee Ungermann 'Flight Instruction' — Steve Tizzard 'Insurance matters' — Peter Bugg. 'Operations at non-towered aerodromes' — CASA AvSafety 'Human factors from a medical perspective — Dr Petar Novakovic NOR-RAAus is run in conjunction with the Monto Festival, a seven day event creating extra activities culminating on Saturday, June 12 with a midday procession, followed by a rodeo and a concert that night at the show grounds. On Sunday there will be an art and pottery exhibition, markets, tea and damper, an agricultural display and a Country and Western concert. Come and experience a great weekend, mixing aviation and country hospitality in a friendly town. There is plenty for everyone to do and see, so enjoy. Monto is about two hours drive west of Bundaberg, less if you fly. The airfield is 5 km from town; a regular shuttle bus service will be available. Accommodation in Monto itself is limited so book as soon as possible; there are several caravan parks in the district. Otherwise pack a tent and enjoy the great outdoors, there's plenty of space for under-wing camping, but bring your winter woollies — nights are a bit nippy in June. Showering and toilet facilities will be in place, a charge of $3.00 a night for camping will apply to recover the cost of servicing these amenities and the extra portable units for the exhibitors and camping areas. Bar facilities, kitchen and eating areas will be provided. In keeping with the atmosphere a bonfire has been allowed with a local artist entertaining in a comedy sketch and a sing-song. On-site fuel will be provided by a local supplier at minimal costs; more details will be published when available. Operational information will be published shortly; a facility and exhibitors site plan will follow. All aviators: do not forget to register at the RA-Aus tent after landing For further information contact the RA-Aus Event Manager Chris Ungermann or ring Mary Miller at our Canberra office; 02 6280 4700. Rotax Discover North Burnett Rally During the NOR-RAAus fly-in Recreational Aviation Australia will also hold the Rotax Discover North Burnett Rally on Saturday June 12. This event, being a 'poker rally', will involve flying to five airfields in North Burnett Regional Council's area and picking up a playing card at each location, with a prize going to the winning hand. The airfields are Biggenden, Gayndah, Mundubbera, Eidsvold and ending up at Monto. Local community service clubs and organisations will deal out the cards at each location. Tea, coffee and soft drinks will also be available along the way provided by the Lions Clubs and the SES. The monthly Biggenden Markets are on this day and also the Gayndah Jockey Club, which operates from the oldest racecourse still in use in Queensland, will be running their main annual event. For those interested in dropping in at a country race meeting on the way to Monto, the Jockey Club have kindly offered to provide a free pick up and return service from the Gayndah airport to the meet. The dress standards are relaxed and for contact details and further information visit www.queenslandracing.com.au/raceclubs/show.asp?id=51532. If you would like to take advantage of this service please contact Peter Strohfeldt (details on the Queensland Racing website) sooner rather than later, as this will assist the Jockey Club with organising this service. By the way, if you are going to have a flutter don't forget about last light. It is the pilot's responsibility to ascertain the serviceability of any airfield they intend to use.
