grvw Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 Just joined up yesterday. Like many, I've been wanting to fly for years, and was just starting to get my PPL with Brindabella Airlines in Canberra when they decided to close the flying school. I'm keen to be a part of the move to get a second local Canberra airfield approved and built so that people like me in this part of the world can get the chance to learn, and fly, locally. Is there a group of local Canberra recreational flyers I should get to know? grvw
Guest Decca Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 Hi grvw, welcome to our forums. Inconvenient of Brindabella to change their plans, but it may be their loss, your gain, by giving you more local options if a 2nd airfield goes ahead. Slartibartfast (Assistant Forum Manager) will be up to speed on what is happening in the hope for another airfield in the area. I've only touched on a few issues which are affecting you, my ambition is just to welcome you, and handball you to the more local residents from Canberra, Goulbourn, etc who will be glad to help. Regards, Decca.
slartibartfast Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 Welcome grvw. Have you read the thread here and signed up at the CRAA website? It is ridiculous that a city the size of Canberra has no flight training facility. There used to be many.
grvw Posted April 21, 2010 Author Posted April 21, 2010 Thanks for the welcome. I completely agree - it is a big disappointment that there's no longer a suitable airfield or any place to learn that's less than 100 kms away.
