If flying means movement through air without any physical contact with the ground, I guess the first person to jump to their death :)

Given that you don't need an engine to fly (gliders do quite nicely, thankyou:)) you would have to add George Cayley's coachman, Otto Lienthal and Percy Pilcher to the list wouldn't you"?006_laugh.gif.0f7b82c13a0ec29502c5fb56c616f069.gif:thumb_up:

Powered flight would have to be Pierce in NZ, a couple of months before the Wright Bros.
