Guest luke_overstreet Posted May 3, 2010 Posted May 3, 2010 Recreational Flying is the first forum I've joined as an aspiring student pilot. I'm pretty excited to be a part of this community of people with the same thing binding them together - flying! I'm a high school student from Illinois. I'm taking flying lessons so that one day I might be able to work for an organization like MAF (Mission Aviation Fellowship). I would also like to get some medical training, to be of a greater help on the mission field. I would really appreciate any comments or suggestions for a seventeen year old student looking to get a PPL and then maybe an A&P rating. If you'd like to see some more information about me and maybe help me realize the dream of getting a pilot's license, please check out my page at http://flying.chipin.com/. Thanks everyone, I'm looking forward to being a part of this forum family. :)
dazza 38 Posted May 3, 2010 Posted May 3, 2010 Welcome Luke, there a alot of information on this site, flying training etc although most of it is for australia, but there are some guys here that have attained a ppl or higher in the USA.Major Millard here on this site, has a PPL from the states and a A & P, licence from the states. He will help you out when he reads this. Cheers
Guest luke_overstreet Posted May 3, 2010 Posted May 3, 2010 Hey dazza, thanks for the information! I have actually considered studying in Australia for medical training. I have quite a few friends there, some near the the Gold Coast, I've heard it's really beautiful around there. It's good to hear there's other people who have a USA PPL, thanks again for welcoming me. Cheers!
Tomo Posted May 3, 2010 Posted May 3, 2010 G'day Luke, and a warm welcome to this forum  You have the same ambitions I do, I would love to fly for MAF one day also, Having quite a few friends in the Mission, it is certainly a great organization. I'm 18, and started flying at the age of 16, got my RAA (ultralight) license when I turned 17, and have been flying as much as I can ever since, now got around 100hrs I guess on quite a range of things, including gliders. I'm starting my GA (general aviation) PPL license in the next few weeks (doing it over near the Cold Coast actually). I live about 300klm west of there. Keep it up, and get involved as much as you can... you'll be surprised at what you can get a ride in sometimes! Medical people are a big need in MAF! I'm currently a Diesel fitter, going into Aviation mechanics shortly. Take care, Tom
Deskpilot Posted May 3, 2010 Posted May 3, 2010 Nice to see young guys(and gals) with a dream, especially ones like you two have. I wish you both the best of luck.
