  1. Murwillumbah is grass. I was there only weeks ago :-)
  2. Hey I don't think Wondai is sealed. Wondai is just grass with a bit of gravel under it. PAL lighting though. ERSA doesn't say but it was grass in November 2012 and I can't imagine it having been sealed since then.
  3. Bit sad :-( I haven't been out there in 10 years. Hope the place picks up!
  4. It was closed as of November 2013.
  5. Unless they're maintained like a green lawn, grass strips will tend to be clumpy and hence a bit bumpy. Most of the weight is off the gear though when you're juddering along quickly - I'd say that it's easier on the airframe than you might think. A few points: Wondai is grass with a bit of gravel - definitely NOT sealed. (Unless it's happened since December 2012). It is designed to be usable after plenty of rain though. Archerfield 10R/28L is listed as gravel on the edges - must be under the grass, making it look like a narrower but completely sealed strip. I flew over Kooralbyn on November 06 2013 and there were the big white Xs of closure at either end. Still looked like the best bet for a forced landing in that neck of the woods though.
  6. Hey there! John Hogan here, a student pilot in the Griffith Uni aviation program in Brisbane. Flown C172s and a PA-32 only so far. Just getting ready for PPL flight test. Flying out of Royal Queensland at Archerfield. Trying to get a group together to build a kit as our 3rd year project and found this site while Googling stuff. I have about 10 interested people. Would appreciate any advice on that endeavour from members of this group. I am inclined to work with metal but its hard to go past the all-up cost of a Jabiru 160c kit - Around $52 K ex Bundy I believe. I like the Zeniths and other American types but the costs at the moment see prohibitive. cheers, John
