    ‘How any flying school makes money is beyond me but if we don't support local then we will all end up the poorer.’ Some flying schools, spec up their training aircraft with top shelf options, which makes their ROI expensive. A school I want to transfer to, after Covid had upspec Foxbats, full glass cockpits etc etc. The hourly cost was $100 per hour more the I was paying, that flying school is no longer in business 🤢

    They should do ONE aircraft, and then fly the wings off it, testing extensively before finally committing.

    OK, I will say this…..our sector of Aviation is near the bottom of the ladder, and everything that is part of it has an economic that is reasonably cost viable.so far. Seeing what Rotax are up to, and their support attitude these days. I would not use one of their new engines. Consider IF Lycoming made a drop in engine to replace a Jabiru? It would cost a mint, and probably run forever, so we have to accept what we can afford. I would put a new Jabiru in an aircraft, before a Rotax……because of support alone. My dreamy choice would be a Verner Radial, only because I have Dinosaur attitude to everything in my life. I would rather ride in a Super Constellation before a 787 or 380.

    Did not see that one, I bought a set of 903 series manuals from the U.S. when I got my truck. We had the earlier 855 Series 300hp V8 in our Army 5t LARC V. Landing Craft

    Cummins developed Military Spec 850hp V903 engines that had 100 hours TBO. Same basic block was in my W900 series Kenworth 320hp

    China will make anything you want at a price you are prepared to pay 🤩. I started a Motorcycle Import business 10 or so years ago, That was a learning curve of immense proportions, early Zongshen engines were unreliable at the start, they got better as they went, electrics even more so, carbies were branded Mikuni, yeah right 🤩. Ever seen antilock motorcycle rear brakes….I ordered that option on 200cc models, cable operated and actually worked!! They cast our desired name in the engine crankcases, badged and stencilled name on seats etc. Warranty was 2 extra bikes per 20 foot container so just rob them for parts. The cheapest bike available was USD149.00 ex Chongquing? Pull start weed eater style engine, with centrifugal clutch, was never game to buy any 🤩 Give China time and the quality gets better, how long to you want to wait? They now make many big brand name cars…….

    I questioned the new injection system when at the factory several months ago. Was told it was a Jabiru design system using recognised industry design types. It is not a third party rebadge job. Or a collection of bits and pieces from other makers. I think at that time they were still working on the fallback design setup, from memory

    There have been a lot of promises on EV battery range, many of them have been overstated. Part of the key is actual battery life AND being able to still meet makers range claims. THEN the cost of replacement AND availability, too. I think real World for this technology is a fair way off, generally. Mainstream Aviation? Even further away?

    I have spares everywhere, don’t need dealer to reset ECU when I fit a new battery 🤩

    I refuse to pay as an individual, when I was in business I had to pay as I was certifying electronics for legal sale in Australia. I have since retired …….

    These days, you only get to find that out in court of law as it’s rare that many insurance companies pay out for anything. Having a policy give no guarantee of coverage anymore. 🤢

    Soon, it will be private airstrips or next to nothing. Pilots will organise impromptu gatherings/camp outs etc in these places. Away from prying eyes etc. Be guaranteed no CASA ramp checks etc. It seems protecting existing aviation facilities against development is a lost cause in many cases 🤢

    As far as I am concerned, IF you have spend money as an individual, to buy the Australian Standard. I ignore it, in my eyes it does not exist 👍

    When I worked at Nullabor in ‘76, we had drum Avgas but ran out on occasions. Pilot to Jack ‘ Need Avgas pleas mate? Me, sorry ran out but if I can get rid of these cars from the pumps, I will juice you up there’. Don’t go back to the airstrip, I will go hold the cars back and you can take off on the driveway. The driveway to the old roadhouse, serves as the airstrip, even today.

    I can remember back when early Corollas has many gearbox synchro problems. Fixed by changing to ATF oil. Engines and gearbox recommendations on modern engines gets more critical as time goes on. All my machinery and vehicles here are old Dinosaurs that run on 15-40 mineral Diesel oil 🤩

    And IF you want to upgrade from your 912xx to the new 912IS, you are in for a World of grief 🤢

    There IS a Penrite equivalent specification for 912is engine, but Rotax has the last word, use their Shell recommended oil or the warranty is toast 🤢 Right now it’s unobtainium in Australia, which probably means carry extra oil on any long flight. As much as I hate it, car engines are not much different. I remember when there was only 2 oils, Castrol and Castrolite 🤩 from memory, that’s fading now !

    The good part is, there are many manufacturers coming up with really good airframes and power plants to match. Problems are endemic with deliveries, but that is common, due in part to demand and supply of build materials. Some WEB sites are promoters of vaporware but that is the modern world, I think it a typical scenario in some cases people looking for venture capitalists, which is a way of getting some designs and prototypes to become real World products. Generally the Part 103 sector is seeing good growth and full order books, so that can’t be a bad thing. But I would sure like to see it in Australia 🤩

    Knowing what I have been told, there is a lot of work in commissioning that new model engine to the point, I would not want one, even if it was FREE. But I could see someone with a modern aircraft, drooling all over it 🤩
