  1. In respect of this crash, I wonder how many hours in the pilots log for last 12 months? What about last BFR? Experience on aircraft type? Overall condition of aircraft? Experience in flying the type of conditions present on the day? Since no investigation? We won’t know, apart from bush opinions and gossip?
  2. We all have our methodologies in making our decisions, based on our knowledge and risk assessment. Even PICs with many thousands of hours in their logs can make a mistake. Even to the point….don’t feel like flying today, so I won’t. I used to apply it to motorcycle riding, even.
  3. Landing on the highway have been a better option? OR fly to alternate, not many out there though. Either way may have been less crosswind for take off. Would have be best to stay on the ground for right conditions?
  4. Want your crash investigated? Change over from RAAus rego to VH rego and ATSB will have to do something 🙂
  5. Thanks, Maybe I go for Grey non polarised because I will installing one of these to replace the AH I have, which won’t cage anymore and would not know IF I was upside down 🙂 https://www.flightstore.com.au/avmap-ultra-efis
  6. I was thinking of putting my Ham radio in my Super Bin Chicken, with small horn speaker above my left ear and use a noise cancelling mic where its easy to get at. Want it standalone and not integrated to the Avionics at all.
  7. Thanks, decided to give my plan for the 230 a miss and just suck it up, I will just use another plane equipped for bush flying.
  8. Some experience that was, left eye needs slight correction and right eye good so I told the Optometrist I wanted bifocal lenses for reading instrument panel etc and that saved me perching a $9 pair of magnifiers on the end of my nose! and having to look over them when looking outside. Big problem now is what shade/colour of tint to use for the second pair as Sunglasses? He knows nothing of the best solution for an Aviator? So in the end I will end up with 2 pairs and a haemorrhaging health fund 🙂 I will end up with 1 clear set and one tinted set. So, any suggested colour of tint for flying, please?
  9. Well, will see what happens……have eye appt in 2 hours to get a verdict……. I will report back 🙂
  10. Glare COULD be a problem? Never worn Sunglasses in my life, ever. Sun visors have been OK, none on plane…..
  11. Experience to date……tells me that I need something. If I don’t need for some circumstances all OK but IF I do need and don’t have then things can get harder to see, especially when there are merging colours. had trouble finding airstrip a few weeks ago…..too many green crops near it. Now they are harvested can see the strip easily, but not the yellow windsock:-)
  12. OK, I need a compact set for looking at airstrips and surrounding landscape. One of my principal needs is to check Windsock direction too. Not knowing anything about them, I call on the collective wisdom. Would some kind of Telescope do the job?
  13. OME, I try to be observant and work out reasons for my findings and since I am late to the Aviation party I have a lot to learn. These forums have been a big help from posters contributions to help acquire the required knowledge. I don’t want the mathematics of it all at my age, I simply need to know what works and what doesn’t 🙂 Case histories of those who have gone before me, are my teacher. 🙂
  14. Turbs, thanks for your efforts with the explanation. At my stage in life I guess the complexity of it all has not as much relevance as it may have, earlier in my life. I try to use simple logic these days, 2 months ago I bought a Mahindra 4x2 ute with a tray. for 2 reasons…..it was half the price of a Hilux and it will last until I die and still do the job I want, it goes everywhere my 75 series Landcruiser goes on my steep property as it has an Eaton Auto Rear Diff Locker that actually works! So far 3 people have bought one after looking at mine 🙂 I guess application wise I made a good decision 🙂
  15. Thinking about this, the airstrip i’s surrounded by harvested wheat crops and they seem to generate rising heat and probably ideal conditions for Willy Willy generation? Rising lift does occur on approach, but immediately turns to sink over the fence as the airstrip is all green grass? My assumption only in absence of any other reason? Flying over green unharvested crops seems smoother on a hot day more than flying over the harvested crop stubble? Willy Willys are something I will have to be very wary of.
  16. Most people try to stay under the 4.5T GVM with small diesel dual wheel trucks. They don’t need to ‘pose’ but just get the job done 🙂
  17. Being a realist in this life……I ‘arrived’ long ago 🙂. Dodge RAMs in the city? Yeah well maybe something about manhood…….so long as they don’t end up with wings 🙂
  18. Everyday I see stuff ups in new road markings making it even more difficult for vehicles to negotiate, mainly bigger and older vehicles, although I get my best entertainment watch Dodge RAMs battling the shopping centre car parks. I break rules every day on a have to basis. Minor ones, but none the less they are rules. ALL of which we did not have years ago and didn’t need back then nor need them today. Rules are made for the DUMB people on earth…..the rest use their own judgement and commonsense to the level they have. Do you like the 100 hour learner driver log time? Car drivers must be more dense the pilots since a RPC should be achievable in about 30 hours? Would you think we need to change the RPC to 100 hours and that would make them better pilots? Change the rules for what some idiot bureaucracy wants? In the AUF days there was nothing, you could almost jump in and fly……AND crash. You can do the same today with all the qualifications you like…….I flew into a willy willy on approach the other day, saw no dust etc……..lucky I had a instructor or I could have been making love, to the ground. Now, we should have new rule that says Willy Willys should not come within a certain distance of an airstrip. Life will always have its elements of risk, regardless of rules.
  19. Turbs, todays example 😞 https://www.news.com.au/lifestyle/real-life/news-life/two-men-wrongfully-convicted-of-murder-walk-free-25-years-later-after-podcast-uncovers-new-evidence/news-story/95b0a20d3664af2c310590950e33d5b7
  20. There are rules the should be written, that aren’t. There are rules that are written that should not have been. But our sh1t hot rule makers don’t know the difference. Common sense people can see it, but those who should…..don’t. When I do anything, I make my own risk assessment for the safety of others firstly, the look at the risk for myself……so I am still here on Earth and must not have screwed up so far…..
  21. Seems I mistakenly thought it was a place for a more professional hobby than staying on the ground. I started by picking the wrong Flying School who could have been far better. What CFI tees up a beat up run on his mates house so his mate gets a photo op with me on board as a student? Here I am thinking CASA will be waiting for us back at the hangar with handcuffs? THEN keeps my flying hours money I am in credit because of COVID and can’t go back to use them up? Does not send my log books on to my new school, calais he sent them by ordinary post, not registered 😞 And YOU wonder WHY I have run out of F’’s to give about rules? And then do mention the flying death trap I ended up with as result of a dodgy LAME? So I rely on the good old RAA and basically NO F’s to give there, either 😞 F…..I should have stayed on the ground doing donuts in my rusty $300 Corolla, might have been more fun 🙂
  22. Congratulations, a nice looking aircraft and I hope it serves you well 🙂
  23. Yes, and people wonder WHY I get pissed off with b/s rules that we are overloaded with these days. MORE chance on being wrongly accused, so long as they get someone to drop a nose around the neck of who they think should wear it……..
  24. Maybe less chance in Aviation, but it happens often in general society seen in wrongful convictions. Nothing is perfect but to those involved the outcome, can be horrendous.
  25. And they won’t stop until they get that blood, even at the wrong person's expense?
