  1. Should just need a wireless comms practical as it relates to Aviation, ANY comms licence should have RPL recognition?
  2. Yeah well, i only got 4 pages in to Paragraph 6 and broke out in fits of laughter to the point of my wife asking what wrong with me? Then commenting, am I reading something about planes 🙂. Yep I said, situation normal 🙂
  3. I get the impression that FAA FAR Part 103 is not well received by RAAus and any approvals would be difficult from brief conversations I have had, MONEY would be a big part of anything. There are companies advertising in Australia and I have enquired with them. However they keep no stock of kits etc, It’s a hurry up and take a long wait of you want something and they just lay down what people can do, can’t do and I get the impression IF I managed to buy one of their kits they would immediately run off and tell RAAus that I got one. Australia is a nation of snitchers and dobbers on people who are different and innovative unless they are making money from something. Everything is mainly about money. Aviation is no different, sadly. For years I have been breaking rules modifying my own vehicles without approvals and never crashed or died. Wether my cars have the magical blue mod plate for Qld makes no difference to me. What the ear does not hear, the eye does not see, the heart does not grieve 🙂 Hint…..my home made LP GAs injection system for Diesels works great., but illegal!! For me illegal is a sick bird 🙂 Bring on Part 103, wether The regulators like it or not……just get out there and FLY legal or not 🙂
  4. All getting too hard, should not be complex, but you can guarantee it will be…….many egos out to do battle and naturally MORE costs to membership. Might be time to go VH? Would that help?
  5. Wonder IF they will RPL my Advanced Ham Radio Licence 🙂
  6. Well, you can adopt the rules of IFR as it allies in this case. ‘I Follow Roads’ and that is easy 🙂 On your trip yo do some ‘go around’ practice….you select a piece of highway where there is a large intersection, you setup to land on the road……fly the approach and then execute an ‘early’ go around, reading the road signs as you fly past at say 200ft. Climb out, head for next chosen town and mark your chart as a confirmed location, amend your flight plan as needed and think winner…winner chicken dinner 🙂
  7. An then, just image the machine the Part 103 ‘Dingo’ now this would be fun 🙂 https://youtu.be/UmKW9ajxQ3k
  8. Bruce, I am at an experimental stage with a new 660, my Super Bin Chicken came with a GPS296 which works but where it’s mounted, I don’t want to use it. I did a 2 hour flight with the 296 the other day and did not look at it once, so maybe it has to go and I put the 660 on the left side of cockpit where I can simply glance at it easily? Some more hours with the current setup and see how I go with it. I treat flying a plane like driving a car……always looking outside where possible.
  9. In that case RAAus have to be the principle investigators of an accident and they can nominate who they want to call in from the outside to help do the relevant investigation. ATSB don’t want to run investigations? That’s OK but it’s RAAus’s privilege IF they choose to have advice from an ATSB investigator to advise only, on an investigation? My opinion only…….
  10. How qualified are RAAus investigators?
  11. Does the RAAus company structure allow this investigative procedure to be legally recognised?
  12. Everyone has an opinion, I did 18 hours training in a Vixxen, did not like yoke and throttle low on centre. it did not feel right for me using yoke left hand. I did not really think I could gel with that aircraft. Fast forward 3 years of no training, get in my ‘Super Bin Chicken” J-230 last week and……simply flew it well. Instructor worked me over with a training assessment and he was very happy. Felt very comfortable with centre stick and throttle on left of instrument panel. Maybe a Vixxen with the same setup would have been better for me?
  13. Glen, IF it was a 19 rego I could change it in a heartbeat but being 24 Jabiru have to approve the change? At least they listened to what I said and I am intending to visit the factory and meet them in person. In my working life I found that personal contact with people paid dividends. I hope the Jabiru gurus smile upon me or I am stuck with what I have 😞
  14. Even city dwellers could house this aircraft and be able to tow to the nearest airfield or open space and FLY 🙂 https://bydanjohnson.com/can-a-minimal-aircraft-deliver-maximum-enjoyment-affordably-yes-north-wing-does-it/#respond
  15. Yep, powerlines end……..
  16. Actually the approach scared me a bit as speed was high, around 70kn, but ambient temperature was high…..over the fence it dropped like a brick but was quickly recovered for a smooth landing on a reasonable short strip. Another strip 6 kilometres away that is 1.7km long is where I will doing my training from and it is grass but very level. Now, I DON’T like the electric flap system, it’s slow and you have to hold your finger on the switch until it reaches the required setting, seen by looking at a dicky little indicator on the extreme right pillar of the cockpit. So I ring Jabiru today for an alternative. Never been asked before? I said I want a positional flap switch that is normally zero, I move the switch to stage 1, the flaps then move to that stage, more flap? then I move the switch to that setting and the flaps change. As I touch down I move switch to zero flaps setting and the return to that position. Reasoning is, once I activate the switch to the required setting……then I just fly the plane knowing the flaps are set. As it is now, I have to hold my finger on the flapper shaped switch, watch the indicator on the right side of the plane then take finger off switch. I have centre stick control and must remove my rich hand from it to work flap switch……..not safe enough for me when I have a high work load. Jabiru listened to what I said and their engineer is going to contact me in a few days. Mine is 24 reg, so Jabiru must give approval for it to be changed.
  17. So, yesterday at 7am I am scheduled to fly for a lesson first time in 3 years in an aircraft I have not flown, my newly acquired ‘Super Bin Chicken’ J-230D. Having done all the pre flight, do my startup checks etc, some I had forgotten. I get to taxi out on the grass strip to backtrack, never been on a grass strip before. If a Cop had seen me, he would thought I was well and truly pissed! Anyway, got it all run up and lined up. Instructor give me the drill, he is taking off and does so……gee grass strip are noisy, I was sure we would shed some parts on take off 🙂 the 3300A engine ran great and away we went. So I take control…..for the next 2 hours we visited 4 towns, flew over numerous ALAs a power station, some mines etc, All the while I am asked to do quite a few air work exercises etc, all the while the 6cyl motor purred along. So we then return to the field after 2 hours where the Instructor land the plane and I taxi back to the hangar. So we debrief and he says that after my previous training at Coffs Harbour in a Aerprakt Vixxen for 18 hours it appears I have lost very little if anything of my training. Not sure what it means but the Instructor gives my a Level 3 assessment rating. Not sure what that means, but it can’t have been too crappy as he said come back next week for takes offs landings and circuits 🙂 Yesterday, was the best day I have had in many months and I could have probably stayed up for many more hours….. The ‘ Super Bin Chicken’ ? I love it and it’s great to fly 🙂
  18. For all the vaccines I have had, in the Military, working overseas, traveling in third world countries etc, I should be long dead 🙂
  19. Was it not called ‘Obtain money under false pretences’. ?
  20. I pretended to be a Radio And Electronics Engineer for 30 years in my own business, self taught and not a piece of paper to my name, my reputation got me my projects both in Australia and Overseas. I was a Defence Dept contractor, worked for Govt departments and was involved in Legislative changes within a Govt Dept. Multimillion dollar mining projects. I did design work, carried out radio survey work. I was asked to Tender on a Military project, one that I gave a riding statement that none of what would work that was tendered for. I provided a second tender to my design guaranteeing a working system. I even fronted Army Headquarters Russel Offices in Canberra personally and presented my reports, system plans and MY tender design and got the job. I have proved you don’t need to be qualified in ANYTHING, to succeed. So, am I a fraud? None asked for my Diplomas so I did not have to tell lies, I just did my work to my best ability. Did any of my jobs fail, was anybody killed? I will go to my grave proud. Any that think I am a fraud can go f….themselves!! I consider myself to be FIGJAM in this life 🙂
  21. I would like the whole story warts and all, but as usual we won’t get to see it 😞
  22. People are incentivised not to break rules etc by authorities enforcing the law in harsh ways making an example of an offender and taking them to the cleaners. That way it makes others think before they do similar, what the resulting consequences could be. It’s a wonder they did not drag people in who did the maintenance on the aircraft as well? The publicity is good for the authorities, makes them look like they are doing their job in the public eye.
  23. So, we take months to set up all this stuff that they never used years ago because the technology was not around back then. This guy used a radio, Avdata would have him nearly everywhere he landed and took off. The moment they had basic evidence which would have been easy to get, should have nailed him. In the 4 years of fluffing around by the authorities, he could have crashed and taken 6 or so people with him, saved money from prosecuting him, killed 6 or so people? Happens with cases of all types these days. Strike while the iron is hot for best results
