  1. IF I get this aircraft, I will have a good look, the front wheel yoke will not allow a size increase anyway, but Jabiru said also that the load mount points for undercarriage had not been tested for increased stress on those points of the fuselage, either. Cant see how that could be, even for a small increase but they design aircraft and I dont……and being 24 rego etc etc, we all know the story.
  2. Heard back from Jabiru….. If the aircraft is registered under the ASTM LSA (i.e. 24-rego) then the aircraft has to remain standard (500 x 6 nose and mains). Under ASTM there is no STC ruling, it is a manufactures approval. Jabiru have done no load testing etc to come up data that allows such modifications to a 24 reg J-230, for approval by them. Therefore I will just have to let the tyres down a bit, for softer landings 🙂
  3. Well, I have made the enquiry to Jabiru so will see what happens?
  4. Aviation regulators have as a Police Officer would say, ‘form’ 😞
  5. I believe they are doing audits in Qld at this time……
  6. This is what I did to my Aeropup, the drum cable brake from what appears to be off a moped was checked on a test flight as part of my condition report, the video I was sent showed a landing roll at Gympie longer than a 747. I queried the L2 who said if I was you, I would not fly with those brakes. So, the next pic shows the hydraulic disc brake kit I upgraded it to. Now this aircraft has not flown with this setup, the reason is the work continues…..now a full rewire.and some added instruments before taking to the sky. Not wanting to put this tyre size on a Jabiru, but just a slight increase? Maybe a CAR35 engineer could solve the Jabiru problem?
  7. I don’t think it can work for. 24 reg aircraft unless its aircraft manufacturer supplied and certified by them. But then what would I know? I ain’t qualified…..just a dummy in many peoples eyes 😞
  8. What the eye does not see, or the ear does not hear, the heart does not grieve……over 40 years ago I had a pilot land at Coober Pedy and blew a tyre on an Aztec, he asked where he could get it fixed, along with his crook radio. I said an AME from Pt Augusta or Alice Springs will be the closest and may take a couple of days. Or, you can look the other way and I will fix it 🙂 So I sourced an industrial tyre and tube in town and fitted it up, repaired his radio, broken wire and he flew away happy. You don’t need a piece of paper to fix anything in this World IF you know what you are doing. You DONT need a qualified LAME to fix an aircraft 🙂. Yeah I can hear the Cupcakes of today bleating about illegal, insurance, liability etc etc. It’s all only a problem IF you don’t know what your doing. Unless some snowflake snitch dobs you in. IF you can access a LAME by all means use him, if not…..then do your own thing.
  9. I would not be prepared to take the risk, given current circumstances. The maintenance of 24 reg aircraft relies on factory certified parts, thanks to Australia’s regulators rulings. Supply problems generally are only going to make things worse, hence my Jabiru thoughts. But even they have a parts problem with older engines, You will wait well over 12 months for a new Gen 4 engine, and some critical parts are unobtainium for Gen 3 motors? I can see a future where people will do what they need to do to keep aircraft flying, illegal or not…….necessity will be the mother of invention. With todays good machining technology, anything can be easily made to solve most problems. The Wright Bros never relied on factory certified parts 🙂
  10. Mike, worked out with full fuel and no baggage 2 POBit was over MTOW, there is also confusion…..one I looked at was 600 MTOW on the plate, the web site in AU that is not the case yet and the South African site says MTOW 600 for some countries but Australia not listed. The one I wanted in Victoria was a beautiful aircraft and near new but I consulted others on the MTOW and confusion reigned. I had to make a decision in a hurry as others had money burning a hole in their wallet etc. I would like a Foxbat, which I should have bought new……right from the start, but now can’t get them and support will be questionable in the future.
  11. Well, not so……I need to lose 20kg or so down from 105, Winter is a bad time of year for me 😞 Thruster, with 2 POB me as one of them, full noise 5600 RPM ideal day and…..not able to leave the ground 😞. So, I will fly it as a solo when able. In the mean time I need a training aircraft and I have flown. J-230 and it did the job OK. Can’t get a new J-230 until 2024 so that ruled out a new one. Planes are hard to find, even new ones.
  12. 600kg is my lard arse problem, I had a Bushcat lined up but MTOW killed it 😞
  13. One is on my shopping list for a 24 reg aircraft, I might try for an STC from Jabiru, that I won’t get. Insurance? Never carry passengers not fly over populated area, IF I crash then will probably die and insurance would find a way to not pay out to my estate. Insurance PDSs tell me that insurance is virtually worthless, except third party for cars. Yes, Aeropup is in pieces again, full rewire and install Becker radio and a few other goodies. I have to instal the new crate motor in Thruster, have started to build hangar……lots of steel and welding, gave up on a rip off kit hangar as can build for 1/3 of their price. Sick of not flying, so need a fly away no more to pay aircraft as standing on milk crates ain’t cutting it……not high enough off the ground 🙂
  14. No, not tundra but a slightly larger size for more suited to grass/dirt strips.
  15. Above subject says it all 🙂. Has anyone done an increase in tyre size for this model? Approvals possible and process needed? Or are you restricted to the stock donuts?
  16. If you used a Turtle Bladder? It’s a portable installation, not a permanent mounted one? does this violate anything when fitted to a 24 reg aircraft? .

  18. IF I emission tested many cars with over 100k on them many would probably fail too. IF something meets standard at manufacture no matter what it is……those standards will never be kept for it life, hence California mandating trucks older than 2010 off their roads. I can order a new UL aircraft engine with EFI or carbies on certain models, I know what I would buy. People will say but what about your Rotax CDI modules, well Ironically I have spares of them, just like I carry spare new injector pump for my 1HZ Landcruisers……only because diesels can’t have a carby 🙂
  19. I will always take carbies before EFI, because I can fix carbies easily:-)
  20. Pipelines do have problems…… https://apple.news/Aw_krSjfZRZePAWDH7lXQSQ
  21. Just take a look at Aviation, we have the most broken down rules in the World, holding back Aviation in Australia because the peak bodies and Govt egos are so big, you would not get over them in a U2 Spy Plane 😞. And Aviation is just one sector amongst many in this country…….
  22. IF they are too lazy to work out funding, then there is no hope of getting anything done. All they want to do is sit at computers and go left click BUY 10 submarines from somewhere, same when buying planes, even shovels. Too lazy to get off our backsides and make anything except a few Bushmasters etc, at least the Ukrainians like us 🙂. I watched our Council take 6 months to build a roundabout in Rockhampton, in the process they ripped it up twice. Sorry, lost the faith in this country 😞
  23. They have had many years to get this together, I remember all the arguments in the middle 70s when I was doing Army service at Moorebank, Sydney. This country is hopeless at building ANYTHING…..
  24. Hi Ian, I am trying to access the FAA Far Part 103 group and get this. Sent msg to contact but it seems you must not get it? Cheers, Jackc Something went wrong. Please try again.
