1. Yeah - me too. That was my second thought and makes a lot more sense than my first thought. Which makes me wonder why it didn't override my first thought, and to wonder how often I ignore better thoughts because of temporal precedence.
2. I can't see where either of those resources (as good as they are - especially ours) answers the question. My guess is that it refers to cloud. Code Low Clouds Middle Clouds High Clouds ---- --------------- --------------- --------------- 0 None None None 1 Cu (fair wx) As (thin) Ci (filaments) 2 Cu (towering) As (thick) Ci (dense) 3 Cb (no anvil) Ac (thin) Ci (often w/Cb) 4 Sc (from Cu) Ac (patchy) Ci (thickening) 5 Sc (not Cu) Ac (thickening) Ci/Cs (low in sky) 6 St or Fs (fair) Ac (from Cu) Ci/Cs (hi in sky) 7 Fc/Fs (bad wx) Ac (w/Ac,As,Ns) Cs (entire sky) 8 Cu and Sc Ac (w/turrets) Cs (partial) 9 Cb (T-storm) Ac (chaotic) Cc or Cc/Ci/CsAc-Altocumulus, As-Altostratus, Cb-Cumulonimbus, Cc-Cirrocumulus, Ci-Cirrus, Cs-Cirrostratus, Cu-Cumulus, Fc-Fractocumulus, Fs-Fractostratus, Ns-Nimbostratus, Sc-Stratocumulus, St-Stratus (wx = weather) So, 1AC140 might mean thin Altocumulus at 14,000 feet, and 6AC160 might be Altocumulus from Cumulus at 16,000 feet.
3. Welcome aboard Upthere. I have sent 2 waypoint files to your email address (which I have access to as site administrator). If any questions come up, post them here. Cheers, Ross
4. Just a few of the 354 photos I took on the Saturday of the flying day. It was a great day as usual. Matt Hall flew in in a Mustang and did a show with the Meteor and the Sabre. Most impressive. Many other great aircraft and flying displays, and the usual hospitality. I'm looking forward to Natfly. Also caught up with Matt and Kaz. Now that the CT4 is back together, they have their wings again. Great to see you guys. Burrinjuck is looking better. Certainly a lot greener than it has been. 5. So. Another one bites the dust. Speaking of which, you will all have cleaned it off your chariots and taken to the skies now that spring has sprung (the dust). Although I prefer winter flying and don't quite understand aviation hibernation. I love the crunch of the ice puddles in the morning, and the swearing of the Jab Jockeys when it fails to fire because the wife's hairdryer isn't producing the watts it used to. Not that there's anything wrong with that. Mmm - I digress. The point is that everyone is flying again, and when that happens there are people everywhere seeing cool stuff. Magical views. Unique perspectives unattainable by the earthbound. So take a bloody camera! Post the results here. Win 6 months subscription to a great magazine you can stockpile for next winter and read in the toilet while dreaming of the next spring. Don't forget to have a high resolution version of your photo available for publication, and to send it to Angela at [email protected] when she announces the winners. Also remember that if you didn't take the picture, the person who did needs to give permission for publication. Good luck all.
6. Bloody good question. I haven't spoken to Garry this weekend. I know he was hurrying to put it together to get photos and ads in the mags before xmas. There's no seat belts, so guessing it isn't ready to fly yet. I'll get the skinny and let you know.
7. The Cougar is finished. Looks pretty cool. I don't think it has flown yet. Stay tuned.
8. Sorry Tomo. Out doing maint all day. Happy birthday you whipper-snapper. Only 7 or 8 decades to go. Make the most of them.
9. I got a bit of excitement out of one - landing in a strong crosswind. Relaxed the into wind aileron after landing and wham - straight up on one wheel. You have to keep full deflection throughout the taxi. Apart from that - nice. Well done Simon.
10. No takers? OK. How about his one just for fun?
11. Great video. Below is one of the comments posted on that video. It shows what can happen when you introduce a kid to the joys of flying. Chris Smisson - the pilot in this vid, died at an airshow 6 years ago. Chris was one of my T-38 instructors in pilot training. He was an inspiration then. Years later, he flew my son ona ride just like this. My son is now an A-10 Warthog pilot that still keeps a picture of that day in his office.
12. Last day of the month. Get your entries in to be in the running.
13. Once on the Expressway, he's stuck there. The plane can't take off because the Expressway is moving (otherwise it would be a Parkway).
14. Could probably use a bit of this.
15. Here's the wind farm you're talking about FD. You can see the Hume in the foreground.
16. Ah - I hadn't considered that they were all freeloading. I always pay my money to support the museum. Thanks Caz.
17. I guess I'll have to play something now Caz. Big mouth. I'll have to bring some sheet music because I never remember scores (no talent). While I have you (and slightly off topic - sorry), on flying days at Temora I prefer the space at the aero club to watch the displays and take photos, but I miss the expert commentary. Is there some impediment to piping the PA to the aeroclub? If everyone pays their entrance money sometime during the day, I can't see it being a commercial decision. Should be easy.
18. Somewhere about 34°48'44.39"S 149°24'21.41"E. There's 2 photos on Google Earth there of them. I took a photo on Saturday as it happens. I can show you tonight.
19. Good stuff Cazza. I can't think of anything right now, but will give it some thought. Music night? Cool. I'll see if I can get the piano in the Cheetah. Thanks for the welcome on Saturday too. Sorry we didn't get a chance to chat. Ross
20. No worries. I got a bit distracted here and there too. I even jumped in to leave while the wings were still tied down. How embarrassing. Catch you next time.
21. Well there were too many VCAs on the Taree trip (just joking), so here's the trip to Temora and back yesterday. Just click on these to open Google Maps in your browser. The trip out shows a gap where it lost the satellites for a while until I checked it and moved the phone somewhere else. The trip back shows one of my "ooh look - something shiny" moments. I saw a hill I used to climb up and run down when I started hang gliding, then saw Lake Burrinjuck, then a wind farm.... you get the idea. Ignore the references to YTRE - it remembered bits of the Taree trip I think. To Temora Home again
22. Unfortunately, within a few weeks of putting that on my car, someone pulled up one of our pavers and threw it through that window. Not sure if there was any cause and effect. I'm happy to create the file for you and email it. You can print it at your leisure.
23. This one is a Jab 6 cyl Nev.
24. Ah - I see. Thanks Denist. I rarely use a route, so hadn't noticed.
25. New one on me Denist. Mine seems right. There are options to show magnetic or true. Remember that the GPS doesn't have a compass, so the current bearing is your track made good. Probably doesn't matter either way. The only use of the current bearing is to align it to the required bearing for the next waypoint. If I'm navigating DR, or establishing initial track, I use the compass.
