1. Warick - I can't think of a way to do that. I'll have another look though. What was the tweaking you did? If you made it better I want it  I showed my PPL instuctor during a nav to Albury on Monday. He was most impressed too. I think Des Newman should start paying me a dividend. Cosmick - I just downloaded it here at work and it was fine. Have another go, but I'll email it to you tonight. Reset the counts - from memory there's a button on one of the screens. I'll have a look.
2. Congratulations guys and Kaz. Remember that photos posted here must be granted permission to be published in the Pacific Flyer magazine. So if you didn't take the photo, make sure whoever did has given this permission. We don't want Angela getting in trouble. Can you winners make sure the high resolution versions are emailed to Angela post haste at info@pacificflyer.com.au
3. I'll chase it up Spin. Meanwhile, get your entries in this month - not long to go. Photos from this competition have adorned the last couple of front pages. Let's keep it up.
4. Garry is rushing to finish the first Cougar - a 4 seat version of the Sierra. It is designed to carry up to 160kg at the rear seats, and the bet is that it will cruise about 120 knots. We won't know for sure until it is finished, but this plane is generating a lot of interest. Here's some photos of where it was up to last weekend. It should be painted soon, and flying before too long. 5. My redesigned main page for OziExplorerCE Here you go Cosmick, and anyone else who wants to check it out. Uploaded to the file downloads section here.
6. That's so cynical and wrong. Even ugly old men like Geoff get help on this forum.
7. This paragraph is copied from the RAAus site and was written by Tony Hayes. If you have prior gliding or General Aviation experience to the extent of 20 hours of which 5 hours are as pilot in command, then the minimum requirement becomes 5 hours experience on RA-Aus aircraft of which 1 hour must be as pilot in command. You must also satisfy an RA-Aus Chief Flying Instructor that you are conversant with the flying training syllabus, particularly the handling of high-drag, low-inertia aircraft. If you already carry radio operator and/or cross country endorsements then RA-Aus will accept these without further training or testing if they are from a recognised source.
8. OK. These guys then? They list the Virus. Even a lawyer of your skill will having trouble with suing the council. They'll claim that it wasn't a pothole - it was an anti-Virus device. :lol 8:
9. Aren't these the ones Darky? Give them a call.
10. Sure does. You can configure it to store the updates locally until it can find a connection again. Tried it today on a flight to Taree. Have only checked on my mobile (from whence I type) so I can't give you the url (in case I did something illegal),but it looks fantastic. I'll record the return flight tomorrow and show you - if there"s no VCAs involved.
11. Cosmick - that's what we like to hear. People saving heaps of money and getting great technology in their rec flying. Warick - I've sent you the Coolangatta VTC (you're in Boonah right?). You can try it out with that - just buy it later if you need it - to keep it legal. I always stay on my main page - I designed it with everything I need. Pretty close to the one in the first post in this thread. I did an update of it when setting up Pud's 7" for the new resolution. He hasn't tried it in the air yet, but I'll bet he likes it. I can send you that too if you want. Cheers, Ross
12. Out of hiding? Great. Come on Mark, tell about your adventures with the SuperPup
13. What a great find! Thanks for that - it works a treat. I'll give it a good run this weekend. That will be even better than a SARWatch - give the KML file location to as many people as you want and they'll be able to see exactly where you are and how you got there. We can even publish our trips on the forum. Too cool.
14. That's not a bad question Maj. Ian and I were just discussing what this week's question would be. I would settle for 600kg, but where do you get 600kg from? That's for LSA only, and it is quite restrictive in other ways. Most of us are limited to 544kg. I can get by pretty well because mine weighs only 267kg empty, so I have 277kg payload - usually enough.
15. Same happened to me today. I had a 172 booked for a navex to Albury to tick off class D. Looked like crap last night, checked again this morning and it looked worse. So I rang the instructor and he said he thought we could do it in time. I asked him to check again (ARFOR said 30 knots increasing by 15 before 11:00am, cloud down to 5000 and we needed 7500 in that direction) and pay particular attention to the radar in our intended direction (huge front and rain event). "Oh" he said. Let's mark that down as cancelled. Bloody weather.:dog:
16. This is taken from the Ozi site here and should explain better than I can. PocketPC PDA's with High Resolution screens (True VGA and greater) This note is for High Resolution PDA's such as the HP 310/312 or VGA Pocket PC's running in "true VGA" mode where the toolbars and dialogs appear too small. If you put a file called hires.dat in the folder where OziExplorer is installed (the contents of the file do not matter), OziExplorerCE will detect the file when it runs and change the size of its dialogs and other windows to suit devices with high resolution screens. Please note - this does not necessarily apply to Pocket PC's with VGA screens, OziExplorerCE already recognizes these PDA's and automatically adjusts. If you have loaded a utility to change the Pocket PC VGA to "true VGA" then adding the hires.dat file may help. OziExplorerCE cannot fix all the size issues because many are controlled by the operating system. Note the full resolution of the device is still used but dialogs, fonts, symbols etc are doubled in size. When designing new screens in the "Screen Designer" you must use half the resolution of your device as the screens are automatically doubled in size in OziExplorerCE.
17. When using Ozi on a high res device, do you know about the "hires.dat" file trick? Create any file (can be empty) in the Ozi directory called hires.dat and it changes to larger fonts to make the windows menus easier to read and press.
18. Sorry Tony2. I can't see a way. A 7" screen would make it easier to hit I suppose. Try emailing Des Newman - the author of Ozi. He might suggest a way, or change it for the next release. He's very helpful.
19. Yep - that's the same as Pud's. It should have an SD card in it. If not, get one of them too. It's best to install everything on there.
20. I just finished Pud's (haven't had much time lately). It will be shipping tomorrow. You can start by buying OziExplorerCE (only $40) and the maps you want. Cheers, Ross
21. Just to kick it off, this is my wife's favourite shot from Cowra.
22. That sound I heard a few days ago was the passing of September, and I've only just realised it. Whoosh "What was that?" "That was your life son." "Is that it? Do I get another?" So it's time to kick off the October iteration of this great competition. I hope you've all been checking out the Pacific Flyer magazine competition page, not to mention the front page. Many great shots have been coming from us, let's keep it going. Don't forget to have a high resolution version of your photo available for publication, and to send it to Angela at info@pacificflyer.com.au when she announces the winners. Good luck all.
23. According to the comments, that was Dennis Malang - the Beaver factory test pilot. It was real - and really risky. Good skills though. They said he died in bed from MS or something. Got some life in first obviously.
24. Thanks for dropping in Monika. I watched your trailer - looks well worth viewing. Well done on recording your journey. Looks like it was as much a journey within as without(back). Cheers, Ross
25. Yes Ian. It was built by John. To me, it is a 4 cylinder Sierra, but he calls it a Cheetah. He added a fair bit here and there, including flaps, and it came out at least 50Kg heavier than mine, but still climbs really well and cruises at 110Kn. It is a very nice aeroplane. Not a bad flight envelope - stalls at 22 knots and cruises at 110.
