2. Not at all Decca. You were right. The choice between the Cheetah or Sierra comes down to whether you want all metal or half fabric, 4 or 6 cyl, fast or super fast. Both are great planes.
3. Yeah - welcome Pete. I am indeed very happy with my Cheetah and I highly recommend you have a look at them. You're not far from Taree, so why not drop down there, check out the factory, and get Garry Morgan to take you for a fly.
4. I've just arranged a visit to YSCB Tower tomorrow at 15:15. Anybody in Canberra want to tag along? PM me for details.
5. Here's Matt's (or maybe Kaz's) pic of the balloon tyred Hornet that dropped in to the RecFlying Fly-in at Camden Haven 2 years ago. He was airborne in about 5 feet on take-off.
6. They've accepted my RAAus log book and the 300 hours in it. I completed a 3.1 hour nav today (YSCB-YCTM-YSWG-YTMU-ASST-YSCB). I've just got another nav to Albury to tick off Class D, and a few more practice engine failures (getting used to the 172 glide), then they reckon I'll be right for a flight test. A bit more CTA radio practice in all that. Completed 2.3 hours instrument flying so far (and loving it). Decided today not to bother with GAAP (Bankstown) because it's all going Class D by April. There's still some confusion over whether I need to do the BAK again. I'll post here when it's decided.
7. Right here. (Maptrax) I'm setting up a 7" for another forum member right now, so I'll know more soon. I haven't had a sec to finish it since last Thursday, but tomorrow night should be right. One thing I did notice already was that Ozi doesn't do 800x480. Just trying to work out the best screen design to fit. Nice big screen though.
8. I'm glad they've stated that the safety pilot will be doing the dropping where possible. Someone told me a tale at Cowra about a flour bombing run, only they forgot the flour. "No problem", someone said. "I've got some lime" (you can see where this is going). As the pilot reached the drop point, he threw the bomb out the window. It caught the latch, broke the bag and emptied the contents into the cockpit. The pilot couldn't see for the tears and stinging, but luckily the safety pilot got his head outside and kept them flying until they could sort it out. [preacher mode]There's a lesson there for all of us I think[/preacher mode]
9. Welcome Dave. How are you finding the Rotec? I'll bet you get it all the time when you park in the wrong place - people come up to you and ask you to get the Funk outta here.
10. Good one Mr H. You got my wing waggle on the fly-by. I wondered what Howie Hughes commentary would be. He is a pretty entertaining guy. He regaled us on Friday night with bush poetry, ads for Lightwing, and even a song with guitar accompaniment. He gave some good commentary during displays, and even got my speed right during that pass.
11. I got mine here.
12. "I sure wish someone would invent something to keep the sun out of my eyes!"
13. They had this on the big screen frequently during the SAAA dinner on Saturday night with a running competition to find the best caption. The only one I can remember right now was, "You said if we followed the GPS the runway would be right on the nose."
14. I grabbed one of those bottles of wine for us Geoff, but I didn't find you again to drink it. I still have it. You disappeared on Saturday I guess. I had a great weekend, although the RecFlying part was a bit disappointing. Too few turned up, and we got swamped by the larger event. I joined SAAA, lead the fly-by (3 laps), got invited with 3 other attractive planes to take part in a photo shoot over Cowra for the SAAA magazine, caught up with lots of old friends and made new ones, and basically had a bloody good fly away weekend. Even the Sunday morning exodus was controlled and painless. I waited around for a while for my tent to dry. Wouldn't have wanted to wait much longer. The day began to get very rough and blowy, then big CUs started forming, then thunderstorms around the place. Of course I was long on the ground by then. I've got a few photos I can post later too. Still at work now because I spent several hours this arvo finishing my time under the hood in the 172. Just some navs and a test to go now. I'll have to get a formation endorsement too. That photo shoot was fun.
15. Oops. What he said.
16. You can start with the list of single location codes by ARFOR in appendix A of your ERSA. The complete list is in the IFR and VFR waypoints decoded in the GEN section of ERSA.
17. Ian will be on his way to Canberra for his first board meeting. We will be having dinner together tonight, so one of us will get back to you soon. Cheers, Ross
18. It applies specifically to country which provides no place to land. Flying over the Blue Mountains for example is almost completely "tiger country".
19. They're made in Taree by Ole Hartmann - almost next door to Garry Morgan. Lots of good things come out of Taree. Speaking of whom, Garry will be in Cowra this weekend in the Sierra, and will have pictures of the new 4 seater Cougar which is well underway. If you want a good Australian kit and 4 seats, this will be well worth checking out.
20. Wait a mirrit. Rast time we got battered savs you stuck one in your ear Nob. Why you do that? "Well" said Nob, "I rang Jabiroo to prace my order, but they say because of war (they mentioned it) there a sav ear shortage. So I do my bit to help". "You pirrock Nob, they meant.....
21. Here's a list. Interesting reading.
22. Congrats Glen. Now to fly it to Cowra this weekend.
23. Wouldn't McGuyver make one out of string, a watch and a discarded ballistic missile?
