  1. Any ex serviceman will tell you how its done...they have had a lot of drill practise. . Alan.
  2. I have used Plexus many times and, although it doesn't claim to do this, I have found it protects against fuel spills. Alan.
  3. Fantastic. Thanks for posting. Alan.
  4. What a beautiful photo of a beautiful Streak Shadow sitting on top of a beautiful Streak Shadow. . Congratulations, nice looking aircraft. Alan.
  5. No problem getting to Natfly no matter where it was held. Alan.
  6. Have you tried Jabiru, if they don't have them they may know a supplier. Alan.
  7. From one Al to another Al . Tell us a little about yourself and your flying interests. Alan.
  8. All of my training in Guernsey was based on glide approaches on final and powered approaches with full flap on short field landings. (Auster training). Alan.
  9. The complete silence with an engine stoppage also enables you to monitor your heart beat as you can hear it quite clearly. . Alan.
  10. My instructor (ex RAF wartime instructor) used to switch the fuel off when you weren't looking, it taught us to switch fuel tanks as the first instinctive action. Several times I spotted him in the corner of my eye slowly sliding his hand down between the seats so I would pretend I hadn't noticed and casually looked out of my window; my reaction time always impressed him. This was training in Guernsey, however, I have never had this with any instructor in Australia, it has always been a reduce power to idle but not too quickly to avoid engine damage however I have done complete shut downs myself in rec aircraft including landings without power. Alan.
  11. I agree however daylight hours are less, always a bl**dy problem somewhere. Alan.
  12. Welcome Harry, Is that your Cub in your avatar? I used to own this one. Alan.
  13. Now there's a few ideas for Natfly. Alan.
  14. I'm so light I come under the hand baggage category. .(light hearted laugh). Alan.
  15. A good emergency landing with a very good outcome. Alan.
  16. Reminds me of an event that someone told me a few years ago. He was flying a Piper Super Cub across the nullarbour ( hope I've spelt it correctly). This aircraft was used in WA for shark spotting and was fitted with a siren underneath, he was coming up behind a guy on a motorbike so he descended fairly low and when he was just above and behind him, he gave him a blast on the siren. The guy looked behind him down the road, probably thought the police were on his tail, but he saw nothing and continued on his way so our pilot gave him another siren blast but this time he spotted our aviator so he gave him the two fingers sign, opened the throttle and disappeared into the distance, our pilot never caught him up. True story. Alan.
  17. When he arrives he will be a temporary 'Aussie' so he will be on our side. . Alan.
  18. It's a few years now since I flew in the UK but is it true that part of the PPL training now includes a formation flying endorsement because 90% of your flying will be in close proximity to other aircraft. . Alan.
  19. No more posts then?? Alan.
  20. You could probably have two sets of wheels, one set being more aerodynamically efficient, but you would have to be able to change them as quick as they do in the pits at the grand prix. . Alan.
  21. I had to fly my L4 Piper Cub from the rear seat so a fast taxi with the tail up was very useful from a forward vision perspective but only when safe to do so and definitely not on a taxiway. It was a lot of fun also. Alan.
  22. True, but only after a couple of hours or so, surely. Alan.
  23. Yenn, you probably keep awake whilst driving because you are continually 'aircraft spotting'. I bet your passengers don't see them either. Alan.
  24. People fall asleep driving their car without an auto pilot, just imagine what could have happened if he hadn't switched to auto pilot, he should not have been flying at all that day. Alan.
  25. Pedals are used to peddle you away from running into puddles. Alan.
