  1. Hi Thalass, I don't have my cert yet (4 months time I will) but I fly at Bindoon airfield which is about 1 hours drive out of Perth usually fairly busy on weekends, friendly atmosphere as well! I can't say how busy it gets on week days though, R155 is active by NOTAM now (hardly ever activated) but a lot of people work. I went up there on a Thursday once and I saw about 4 people. But if you do get the weekend off it's worth the drive! This weekend the flying school is only operating on Sunday due to the heat on Saturday. Regards, Andrew
  2. Congratulations! A great achievement.
  3. You should have adjustable rudder pedals.
  4. I fly with my Ray Ban RB3194 non-polarized, so far they're an excellent set of sunnies. It's a blackish greenish tint (excellent description I know :P) so far so good, only disadvantage is I'm not used to wearing sunnies yet so I take them off to do the preflight (so I can see in the darkness) and forget to put them back on! :hittinghead:
  5. I don't think they will if it's a kit built Jab.
  6. Facthunter in the Jabiru when taxiing if you leave your hands off the throttle the springs on the carby often bring the throttle in a bit, so you eventually get faster and faster (especially when backtracking) so it's always a good idea to keep your hand on the throttle to keep it closed instead of applying constant bursts of braking. That's with the Jabiru I train in, dunno about anyone elses.
  7. I think it's untrue as well take a look at the attached photo of a J160C cockpit (just grabbed it off Google.)
  8. -31.3388, 116.1893 Punch that into Google Maps/Google Earth. You have valid point. I just worked out, our Jabiru weighs 307kg empty (no fuel) and weighs 401kg with full tanks (Avgas 100LL). So that leaves 134kg for Pilot+PAX, so I wouldn't want to use up anymore weight really.
  9. Evening everyone, It's something thats crossed my mind and has definitely been discussed around my airfield but I haven't managed to find a thread on here about it. Would anyone actually use the Jabiru toe brake mod if one was released? Differential brakes is something that would come in handy when you have to maneuver your aircraft around tight turns (in and out of parking bays!) Bindoon is quite spacious and there's not many tight turns so it's not an issue for me but going cross country it could prove difficult. Obviously you can't mod a training aircraft (not that I'm aware of) unless its been approved. So what does everyone think of it? Would you install a toe brake mod in your Jabiru? -Andrew
  10. There's nothing stopping you from doing this, as a matter of fact my friend does it and I've considered getting into it (I currently take photos for fun). Only thing that would hold you back is privacy & ADF aircraft. (ADF being Australian Defence Force, not Automatic Direction Finder )
  11. Ah ok I see now, thanks for the explanation.
  12. Veverjg, Correct me if I'm wrong, one of the props at our school was chipped. It was immediately replaced with another approved prop and I believe this was called a 'cruising prop'? And our engine usually sits at 3000-3300rpm (as said above) on takeoff but when this prop was put on we were getting 2800-2900rpm on takeoff full power, so really your maximum capable engine revs are down to the loading on the prop?
  13. We cruise at 2800rpm on our prop and we can get about 100kts. If you have a read through the J160 pilot operating handbook the aircraft has a max cruise of 112kts. If we cruised at 3000rpm we'd be getting around 112kts or above. There are about 4 different props for the 2200 engine 2 of which are approved for the J160C I think. As for fuel planning we go by 14/L an hour at 2800rpm. And I'm not sure where it says cruise at 3050rpm because I'm pretty sure that's what the engines maximum revs are.
  14. Thanks for your response, I've sent them an email. Thanks, Andrew
  15. Hey, I'm not sure whether anyone heard about the crash near Scott River in WA, Tecnam Sierra P2002 24-5550 went down on a nav from Bunbury to Narrogin. The Tecnam belonged to a private owner I think and Bunbury Aero Club had an agreement with him to lease it to their club members. 53 year old pilot was found 2-3 days later with spinal injuries and was airlifted to hospital (poor bloke). Does anyone else know about any other Tecnams used in WA for training? It's an aircraft that I've always wanted to fly and hopefully will once I've completed my RAAus training, it's just that Bunbury was 1.5 hours out of Perth when my current RAAus school is about 50 minutes. Thanks, Andrew
  16. Hi Zodiac3818, Just taking a stab in the dark here (not 100% sure whether it applies to your aircraft) but according to my Jabiru aircraft service manual for the J160C the Oil Temperature Gauge is an electronic instrument. They list a few methods for troubleshooting; check 10amp instrument fuse and replace if necessary, check 15amp main circuit breaker and reset if necessary, remove instrument panel and check cable terminals for security, check wiring at sender for security, replace sender or replace gauge. Now I'm not 100% sure whether that applies to you as it's a different aircraft you own. I hope this helped. Andrew. EDIT: I also retrieved this info for you off the J160 pilot operating handbook for the 2200 (may differ because of engine cowl formats) Red line minimum limit: 15C Green arc normal operating: 80-100C Red arc maximum limit: 118C Yellow arc precautionary limit: 100C-118C & Sorry for bringing up an old thread.
  17. You can always ask. Some of my mates have tried to get into the cockpit to take photos but the crew has rejected and instead the stewardess had to take the photo for them.
  18. Hi all, My name's Andrew and I'm currently conducting RAA training at Bindoon in WA. I have 19 hours and 4 months till solo (Woo!). Loving every minute of the training and enjoy flying the J160C. I've been browsing the forums for quite some time now but I thought it was about time I settled in and started posting. Hope to speak soon! -Andrew
