  1. I don't need a link to make radio calls. We are taught that you know. I was just saying none of it is compulsory and I think it should be. I don't care about court cases or whatever. It's about being safe. . I would rather be safe than worry about who I can blame for an accident.
  2. There are no mandatory calls at an uncontrolled airport. You don't even have to have a radio. The same as circuit patterns are recommended not compulsory. I think these 2 things should be compulsory, that way everyone follows one set of procedures.
  3. Drivers are out of control down here. I would imagine Sydney would be just as bad. A lot of Melbourne's problem is the huge immigrant influx the last few years. Combined with VicRoads handing licences too easy.
  4. A few weeks back one of my driver's was unloading a crane truck in a suburban st. He was standing on the curbside when a car went past that close it tore it's passenger mirror off and it was stuck on the edge of the tray. And another car earlier this year drove through a give way sign into one of my tray trucks. Wrote the car off and did 10k damage to the truck. Another time I was stopped at the lights when a new Mitsubishi ran up my bum . Wrote that off too . Truck sustained a broken tail light lens. Never dull in Melbourne.

  8. its part of the 0 fatality program. but instead of repairing victorian rds and making them safe they just keep lowering the speed limit. and now jacinta daniels has made kids up to 14 free to steal more cars and cause chaos with no consequence. i pass burn't wrecks almost every day . they are stolen by kids then torched after they have driven around melbourne at high speed.
  9. sam ganow on rebuild rescue died a couple of months back because he omitted the fuel check during a rushed preflight. a bad fuel cap gasket had let water into the tank.
  10. that would not happen because you checked your fuel drains and bled off any water before the flight of course.
  11. i have one question. why would a balloon plunge to the ground if someone jump out . i thought less weight would make it rise.
  12. what i find more interesting is they had the use of a helicopter hangar in 1923. didn't realise helis were thought of then.
  13. last week i rode my motorbike up home and back to melbourne, 500km round trip. it was nerve wracking , every second car seemed to have a muppet driving. getting tailgated while doing 110 was quite common. even had a tip truck right up my clacker at one stage, as some of you alluded to a few weeks back , its just getting too dangerous on the road. flying an ultralight feels safe as anything compared to a motorbike.
  14. In cruise, the oil temperature should be above 80°C (ideally between 80° - 100°). This maintains good viscosity, while evaporating most contaminants. If a cooler installation gives cruising temperatures of 80°C in summer but 60°C in winter, the cooler must be partially covered during winter to maintain cruising oil temperatures. Practices such as operating the aircraft with oil temperatures below 80°C and taking off before the oil temperature reaches 50°C substantially increases the risk of oil cooler failure. from jabiru. 90c is spot on according to this bulletin. and i did say before my engine is clean. we used to get hilux diesels sludging up that bad you could hold the oil filter upside down and hardly any oil would come out. this was because of running up and down from the pit to the workshop all day without getting hot. the answer was2 lts of diesel mixed with 3 lts of oil and let it idle for 20 minutes then drop the oil. a lot of people used to do that .

  16. its not in the engine. oil is perfect and it hardly uses any. it used to have an oil cooler that was a lot bigger than the one on it now.
  17. oil in the engine is spotless. it only makes this emulsion after more than an hours flying. i run it weekly because number 2 may have a bit of pitting. 80/60 which is the bottom limit for a 2200 leakdown but still serviceable. the other 3 are 80/70.

  20. Look at this crap my jab spits out. It doesn't use much oil at all but must make plenty of condensation.

  24. Yes. It started life at Bairnsdale. A bloke in lakes built the kit. Then it went to Queensland then ended up back at Bairnsdale.
