  1. a. i said nothing like that. b.correct. had to pay insurance excess. . the topic is insurance excess and who pays.
  2. if the student is flying solo they certainly do pay the excess. i know of 2 that have. and the raa insurance broker told me this is correct.
  3. excellent . thats great , i thought freight might have been a problem with the war going on.
  4. sand flies are evil here on the gippsland coast. horrible things
  5. Thanks to everyone who has replied this topic. It is something that can effect every student but never gets much thought . I know I never gave it a thought until now.
  6. Point 1. I have been told the instructor definitely is liable for the excess if he is pic. I doubt any school would ask for it though. Instructors are hard to get. Point 2. Is pretty much what I have learnt. Point 3. There is no 3rd party cover for raa aircraft. The member liability policy is for the member and not aircraft. Although that may be what you are saying. Raa members have 3rd party in any raa registered ac. Point 4 . Correct. Same as hiring any vehicle or equipment.
  7. Read the post and you might understand.
  8. now let's uncross the wires. i rang all the correct people to make sure i understood where a student pilot stands because it never gets a mention. 1. the instructor is always pic if in the aircraft. that makes him responsible for the insurance excess if there is a mishap. 2. as soon as the instructor gets out and the student becomes pic then student is responsible for insurance excess. 3. of course the flight school must have insurance , that is not in question. this is all about who pays excess. 4. i think flying schools with huge excess should be made to tell the students before they fly.
  9. You are completely misunderstanding what I said. I am busy ATM. Will explain what I am talking about after.
  10. At our field when you broadcast your intentions the RAAF atis answers you which is great , you know you have been heard and you can hear it.
  11. Have Bunnings run out of headsets. 😁
  12. i had a micro avionics headset that used peltor muffs
  13. what was the time span from order to landing in aus.
  14. why are you so agressive. i got all my information today off people far more qualified than you and i so i will believe them . thanks for the rabbits.
  15. owning four trucks you get to know about insurance .
  16. far better off talking to geoff for a clear understanding of this policy. he is a great bloke to talk to, always happy to answer questions.
  17. i know what third party insurance is but i did not know what it covered with raaus members insurance which you would not be familiar with. it is a policy that covers us in any raaus aircraft. it has always been hard to get a clear explanation from them. what i wanted to know was whether they covered the aircraft because if it is not your own then it could be considered third party property.
  18. 15k makes a solo student one hard landing away from doubling the cost of an rpc. most people would never have to find out i guess but it does happen occasionally.
  19. geoff the broker deals with aircraft insurance every day and he has never heard of a $15000 excess. He said maybe up to 10,000 max on a very expensive AC.
  20. i was looking at whats available after reading this thread. seeing what people think of mgl i guess i will have to replace that soon. funke have model that fits the same hole .
  21. have you had anything to do with funke radios. only $2000 ,
  22. today i have spoken to raaus and geoff tompkins the raaus insurance broker. fly boy is correct . if one hires an raaus registered aircraft for solo training or not the ra policy will cover 3rd party damage caused by the aircraft under your control but not the aircraft you are flying. a good example is the jabiru that became wall art at goolwa when it went through the hangar wall at high speed. the ra members insurance covered all the repairs to the buildings. now when a student is training the instructor is pic at all times when he is in the aircraft so he has to pay the insurance excess. as soon as he gets out the solo student becomes liable for the excess. i rang my club and asked as well what their policy is and they sent me the figures. most of the club aircraft have a $1250 excess but some of the newer ones up to $5000. the broker thinks the school with the $15000 excess is paying reduced premiums but just passes on that ridiculous excess to students nad instructors, pretty shifty.
  23. I have no idea which post you are referring too.
  24. I have read that on Google but also I read that once you become solo you are responsible for the excess. The same as if you have your licence and hire an aircraft.
