  1. when rotax introduced the 912ul they were an unknown engine. they tried to sell them to john williams to fit in the titan tornados, he refused saying the 582 was proven and that is what he was fitting to factory builds. in the end rotax gave him a 912 and said try it. if you like it buy it, if you don't send it back. after the trial he was sold on the 912. maybe zonshen could do something similar as burnie suggested.
  2. i think you may have been right in the past but there are quality products coming from china now. these zonshen engines have great reviews when you can find them.
  3. I thought you only turned the pistons in a counter rotating engine.
  4. i hate to say it because i want to see these engines succeed but only 4k cheaper than a rotax who is going to buy them. i didn't realise they would be so expensive.
  5. i would love to hear more about your trip. it would be interesting reading.
  6. Date: Saturday, February 22, 2025 Time: c. 10:40 Local Time Type of Aircraft: Jabiru J230-D Owner/Operator: Private Registration: 24-7384 MSN: J721 Year of Manufacture: Not specified Engine Model: Not specified Fatalities: 0 / Occupants: 1 Other Fatalities: 0 Aircraft Damage: Minor Location: North of Rosedale, QLD – Australia Phase: En route Nature: Private Departure Airport: Gladstone Airport, QLD (GLT/YGLA) Destination Airport: Sunshine Coast Airport, QLD (MCY/YBSU) Confidence Rating: Information is only available from news, social media, or unofficial sources Circumstances: On February 22, 2025, a privately operated Jabiru J230-D experienced an engine failure while en route from Gladstone Airport to Sunshine Coast Airport. The pilot, a man in his 60s, was the sole occupant of the aircraft. Following the engine failure, the pilot attempted to glide the aircraft toward a nearby airstrip. However, the aircraft fell short of the intended landing area and executed a forced landing in a paddock north of Rosedale, Queensland. Upon landing, the left landing gear broke off, causing minor damage to the aircraft. The pilot sustained a head injury during the incident but was able to exit the aircraft unassisted. Emergency services were alerted, and the Bundaberg-based LifeFlight aeromedical helicopter was dispatched at 11:25 AM local time. The helicopter landed in the paddock near the crash site, where a LifeFlight critical care doctor and a Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) flight paramedic provided medical treatment to the pilot for his head injury. The pilot was airlifted to Bundaberg Hospital in stable condition for further evaluation and treatment. The aircraft received only minor damage, primarily due to the broken landing gear, and there were no fatalities reported. The exact cause of the engine failure is currently under investigation. While official details are limited, preliminary reports suggest that the engine failure occurred mid-flight, forcing the pilot to execute an emergency landing. The incident highlights the importance of pre-flight checks and contingency planning, particularly for private pilots operating in remote or rural areas.
  7. i don't believe any raaus people will be charged with anything. maybe a payout for the fiance . there may be some repercussions from casa, they have been cracking down on ra since that accident anyway. the operations manual has already been rewritten to close the paraglider conversion loophole. from what i heard originally raaus was going to be shutdown altogether but they have been toeing the line doing what big brother have requested so they should survive. i was hoping a version of part 103 would come out of it but it doesn't look like it. at least with raaus i know the people i deal with and they are very helpful when ever i talk to them. if they were shut down we might not like what replaces them.
  8. i had a jabiru lsa 55 which i believe was the first jab sold serial 003. it was fitted with a 912 80 hp. fully certified for training . i think there were 3 of these conversions done under an stc in the early 90's.
  9. interesting thread. i got back into training today after a few months off. we did a brush up on effects of controls. left and right turns rudder only then aileron only. flying straight and level at 55 knts with flaps. then turning right and left in that configuration. instead of touch and goes we did missed approachs , flew down the runway 50 ft off the ground working my feet to keep on the center line. it was a great morning getting used to the tecnam again. a bit off topic except for the effects of controls i guess.
  10. its all in your member portal. lots of info there.
  11. Happened to me a few months ago on the hume camera caught me looking at Google maps in my phone. $418 and 3 points.
  12. I thought I was being conservative.😁
  13. Who are you talking to.
  14. Sounds like a kid obsessed with flying. Or are you saying Northam criminals are also experienced pilots. Tyabb airfield is near Frankston and hastings. You can times your wa crime by 100 to get to the crime levels around there. Tyabb has no problems. Same with Latrobe valley and Shepparton. As I said before the locals at the airfield are the people to talk to.
  15. Bindoon would be handy to Perth but we live in RAAF east sale airspace here and you have to wait till they knock off on Friday before you can go for a fly. You don't want that.
  16. they are only an upgrade from the pc9s . when i was a kid i used to love watching the macchis , mirages and f111s at the sale raaf base. turbo props just don't sound as good.
  17. i would ask the locals at the northam airfield. i bet they don't have any problems.
  18. do they also have a maintenance training facility. lycos would make sense if there students doing those courses. lots of them to work on when they go out into the world.
  19. thats ok but no need to insinuate that he might have topped himself.
  20. dumb comment. geoff was not well. he passed away in hospital
  21. Give it a rest. I was joking. You are quite happy to dish it out. Stop sulking and stop the thread drift as requested.
  22. great, getting my arse kicked again. got the message , sorry
  23. different aircraft though. the ones we train in now are mono planes. and they run on petrol not castor oil
  24. 2500 ft is the standard training height or why would 3 different instructors all use it.
  25. did you teach raaus or ga, because i have never practised stalls below 2500 ft . not so far anyway.
