About Me
I'm a disabled U.S. Navy veteran. I lost my left arm in the Navy and was medically retired. I've been flying since 2014 when I got my Sport Pilot certificate and absolutely hate renting crappy, beat-up LSA aircraft. I finally saved up my allowance and bought the best LSA plane there is: The ICP Savannah S. It turns out that it's also the cheapest! I was thinking about a Zenith 701 or a Cruzer, but the prices went up A LOT while I was attending a Zenith builder's workshop, and it put the Cruzer out of my price range. The 701 was just TOO light on the payload compared to the Savannah S... and still costs more! The Savannah S has more payload than the 750 Cruzer at 1440 gross! What's not to like? After flying the 701, the 750 Cruzer, and the Savannah S, I can say with absolute certainty that the Savannah S is the most predictable, most forgiving and least problematic of the three. The 750 Cruzer is a close second. I don't like the way the 701 lands. Since that's the most dangerous part of flying, why would I build I plane that makes landing a potential problem?
There are some that say the Savannah is an unauthorized copy of the 701. It's not. After building parts of BOTH aircraft, I can tell you that they LOOK similar but are built entirely differently. I would say that the Savannah was INSPIRED by the 701 but it's definitely not a copy. Leaving my soapbox now!
I enjoy the helpfulness and friendliness of people on this site and am glad to be a part of it!
