    Well, this is not about Jabiru being sold, but solid state batteries show promise. Maybe early days in development but the benefits in weight reduction should be significant.

    My opinion is the ASIC Card says "This person has been thoroughly backgrounded, is known to us and is not likely to be a threat." I’ve recently undergone a ‘Police Check’. Does anyone know how the ASIC backgrounding differs from a police check ? For instance does ASIC involve Federal agencies, whereas a police check is only State ??

    I captured the image below at a European air show a few years ago. It is NOT photoshopped, although a telephoto lens does tend to compress the distance between objects. Even so, a cold shiver went down my spine when I later studied the image in detail.

    One of my first jobs was working in a metrology lab where we calibrated bourdon tube pressure gauges. I was surprised how basic they were the first time I saw one opened up. We had a set of standard weights for calibration purposes, but no real idea of how to tweak the tube, springs and cogs etc. We just kept fiddling until the gauge dial pointer matched up to the applied pressure. Dare I mention, the lab was NATA approved and we issued a certified calibration certificate !! Separately, glass screens don’t need a vac pump - that has to be an advantage !!

    Some glass screens are configurable to depict the info as analogue gauges.

    BTW, when the parachute and rocket are installed in the aircraft, and you wish to freight the aircraft, it is considered as non-hazardous under current regulations. if you remove the rocket and parachute and freight them separately (from the aircraft), they then fall under a different freight category.

    Maybe quote the premium as a % of the sum insured. This should make comparisons across brokers a little easier, but of course the fine print may be substantially different.

    Similar to many light twins after one engine inoperative - the operating engine will take you to the scene of the crash. Glad these guys got out of it OK.

    There is a warning placard on the fuselage of the aircraft at the egress point, and a different warning on the handle. Is it like placing a ‘Wet Paint’ sign on something, so the curious need to try it ?

    I suspect some of the ‘hate’ is actually envy. Even if you don’t like Cirrus, they are a remarkable success story. Of course there was a similar rant against Japanese cars in the US rust belt for years.

    it’s interesting that Aero 2023 at Friedrichshafen had a number of electric/hydrogen retrofits into existing airframes. To an extent this is a similar development timeline to the advent of electric cars, with hybrids and early EVs simply being retrofits rather than clean sheet design. The CEO of Infinitus will be known to many on here.

    Fair points. I vaguely recall the previous lease holder having ambitious plans to develop the paddock on the 'hill' behind the control tower, with a new access road, etc, but of course none of that has airside access. I don't have any knowledge of contaminated ground, but given the extensive buildings that were there during the war years, the presence of asbestos is almost guaranteed. Your right - current available hangar space is effectively nil and constructing new hangar space would be very problematic. I totally agree that businesses at Bankstown looking to relocate are royally screwed, and have few options. Cessnock have just finished the addition of a bunch of new hangars, and I believe all are already full. Warnervale's new hangars on the western side of the strip are still at the DA stage as far as I know.

    The draft EIS for WSI is now out, and as expected, it ain't good news for GA operators at Bankstown. In particular, getting to and across the mountains from Bankstown will probably require a VFR clearance. Camden will effectively lose its two northerly inbound reporting points, but is less affected than Bankstown, and may actually gain a number of businesses relocating from Bankstown. Coincidentally, the largest school at Bankstown has just announced the opening of a new campus at Tamworth.

    I have a 2 stroke lawnmower, a line trimmer, a leaf blower and a chainsaw - does that count ? I haven’t managed to get any of them airborne yet, although I did threaten the leaf blower when it wouldn’t start. 😜

    I believe the E22 Spark is about a year away from certification. It will be interesting to see if it’s any better than the Pipistrel.
