  1. I didn't want to feed the conspiracy theory, but servo pumps can be out, but usually not many, and not by much. Are your Pumps accurate? NMI inspectors visiting sites in the wake of increase in pump inaccuracy – ACAPMAg
  2. Plastic jerry cans are usually constructed from HDPE which has a relatively high thermal expansion coefficient.
  3. For some reason this triggered a memory of the “Nullarbor Nymph”. Maybe OME could use a similar strategy to boost the profile of Winging it Down the Castlereagh ??
  4. Is this it ?? Form 166 - Recreational Aviation Medical Practitioner’s Certificate (RAMPC) (casa.gov.au)
  5. The remaining question is does the cling film bubble on Lexan like ‘sticky’ film does ? Of course you can always take it off and put it back on again if it does. Skippy may be able to advise his experience with cling film and any bubbling.
  6. If you haven't already drowned in options yet - here is another one. https://luzenandco.com.au/products/black-tint-solar-control-static-cling-window-film CC
  7. Bonza finally gets the she'll be right mate, no worries from CASA Bewdy !
  8. Your instructor will probably do a few circuits with you first (just to check if you are 'in the groove') and will then get out for you to do one by yourself. Just relax - remember, it's just another circuit like the hundreds you've done before ! Your instructor won't send you solo unless they firmly believe you are totally good to go.
  9. The Oaks was up for sale a few years ago - did that ever happen ?
  10. I think I misinterpreted your post. Maybe Bondangara (Wellington) airstrip operated by Dubbo council ? Not sure if there plans for hangars but at least they are apparently encouraging you to ‘house’ your small plane there.
  11. Have a chat with Central Coast Aero Club at Warnervale. There is a new master plan for the airport which I believe includes a number of new hangar lots. Also Cessnock airport has a number of new hangars built in the last 12 months.
  12. Climbed up to the crater lake on Ruapehu back in the mid ‘90s…..and it erupted not long after. Tongariro NP is simply spectacular. Great pics and it looked like a magical day. Well done !
  13. No experience with these, but I know a GA instructor that tried a similar Bose earbud type headset, and ultimately went back to a Bose A20. My understanding was that earbud headsets are fine for a low background noise airliner cockpit but ‘leak’ too much when there is a noisy Lycoming or Continental up front. A Rotax or a Jab are substantially quieter so maybe the earbuds are ok ?? Dunno.
  14. Its possibly acting on what’s binding the particles of carbon together- like a bit of residual hydrocarbon or other general muck, rather than ‘dissolving’ the carbon. In the bad old days chlorinated solvents we’re the mainstay for this kind of job - methylene chloride (paint stripper) or carbon tetrachloride etc but these are particularly nasty to humans. Carbon tetrachloride was even used as sheep drench back in the first half of last century, but it probably killed more sheep than worms. Just remember to never put holy water into a pressure cooker - you will blow Christ out of the kitchen !
  15. Bruce, a ‘good’ coolant also increases the boiling point but more importantly should also contain an azole-based copper corrosion inhibitor, possibly a phosphate and/or molydate steel alloy corrosion inhibitor and maybe a smidgen of silicone-based anti foam. How you determine what’s in an off the shelf coolant is a good question and frustrating unless you request an SDS sheet and it has CAS numbers on it for every active. The short answer is I wouldn’t go back to straight water unless you add the inhibitors. I was an industrial chemist in a former life and routinely formulated this kind of stuff, but have now forgotten more than I ever knew. Now back to seized piston rings………
  16. The Subaru engine was similar to that used in the WRX. Here is an article that can describe the aero Subaru engine better than me. https://www.kitplanes.com/a-new-name-on-the-alternative-engine-block/
  17. Thanks ! That’s good enough for me. I was looking for something small, light and portable for ‘away’ refuelling that could lift fuel around 75cm from a collapsible jerry can suspended from the tiedown eyebolt at the top of the strut to the top of the wing. Lifting a jerry ‘bag’ to a hook at shoulder height is no problem (so far - a lot easier than top of wing) and a pump version with on/off nozzle virtually eliminates spills. It also means it becomes a single-handed operation as the jerry bag doesn’t need to be supported while it is suspended. Problem solved for me.
  18. Indeed ! it comes under the heading of “if it’s too good to be true, it probably is” I don’t particularly want to save a few $ on a pump only to end up in hospital (if I was lucky) and watch my $$ aircraft burn to the axles.
  19. If you get a chance can you ask your mate how much lift these things will deliver to ? ie. will they pump directly upwards say, 1m ….and how much slower is the delivery at that height ?
  20. https://www.amazon.com.au/specious-Charging-Delivery-Transfer-Gasoline/dp/B0B9RTCXVP/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?adgrpid=85742440023&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI3PXD18WY_AIVWw4rCh0jJwqdEAAYAiAAEgKItPD_BwE&hvadid=591150119655&hvdev=c&hvlocphy=9071776&hvnetw=g&hvqmt=e&hvrand=12436409885975332070&hvtargid=kwd-345150442994&hydadcr=22540_362593&keywords=12v+gasoline+transfer+pump&qid=1672102450&sr=8-1-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUExWDZTNTJNNzE2UklHJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwOTA5OTEwOTVHNU0zTDhHNEgxJmVuY3J5cHRlZEFkSWQ9QTEzM1lSRDlTVDhDMDkmd2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9hdGYmYWN0aW9uPWNsaWNrUmVkaXJlY3QmZG9Ob3RMb2dDbGljaz10cnVl Well, here is a 12V portable “gasoline” pump that plugs into the cigarette lighter for just over $30. The delivery hose looks suspiciously small diameter, but will apparently deliver 7-8 L/min. Anyone brave enough to see if this is intrinsically safe ??
  21. Cessna 210 and the ATSB will be investigating. What a terrible time of year for the families involved.
  22. Great for hangar fueling out of drums, but not overly portable. Skip’s solution also uses ship’s power and a fair bit of ingenuity but after all the messing around, did it really cost that much less than $70-$80 ?
  23. I could envisage hanging a collapsible jerry can on the tiedown point at the top of the strut, and then pumping from there with one of these. This is still uphill so a siphon wouldn’t work. Lifting 17kg of collapsible jerry can to this point beneath the wing is readily doable, and the pumping lift from there would be around 75cm.
  24. G’day Kiwi, l’ve had my eye on one of these. What do u reckon they would be like in lifting fuel 1.8m from the ground straight up to a high wing ? CC
  25. Has anyone tried one of these ? (I haven’t)…..and yes it does pressurise the jerry can, but at least it can’t generate a spark. I see the portability as an added advantage for ‘away’ filling but interested to hear comments on the jerry can pressurisation issue. https://www.motamec.com/motamec-jerry-can-rapid-fuel-transfer-hand-pump-for-petrol-diesel.html?SID=aviitu4vtkh985gcfsk6rc6ps2
