    Nope, I still disagree. They chose that speed (65kts) for a reason, I'm not going to go 'oh I'll just add a smidgen'. Best glide is best glide for a reason. That's one thing that's been drilled into me during training, fly the best glide speed.

    Just a bash around with an instructor. Fly out of a new airfield, experience flying in the UK....just fun really. Something where I get to have control, so not just a joyflight, but a lesson :)

    Just to clear up any possible confusion, 'restart mode' doesn't mean manual restart, it means if you fix the problem (throttle, mixture, whatever) it should restart itself. Do NOT attempt to manually restart the engine (turn the key) when the prop is still windmilling. Personally I wouldn't bother with a restart at all, I'd just land it, seems too much danger of getting distracted trying to restart it and getting yourself into worse trouble... Do you have the hatches closed/locked on landing Tomo?

    I'm sorry Tomo, but I definitely disagree with that. You should aim for the exact best glide speed - 65kts (in this case, appropriate to aircraft of course). It's clearly marked on the ASI, it's not like you need to guess. The best glide speed is clearly 65kts for a reason - so fly at 65kts. You won't get the same glide distance at 'a few knots extra' and in this situation you want every bit of distance you can get.

    Does anyone have any suggestions of good airfields near London (I'd be coming from Wapping)? I was looking at Biggin Hill, any recommendation of schools there to go for a fly with?

    I passed! Woo! Don't need to wear my specs to fly or anything :) Left eye is 6/5 (I think), Right is 6/9, overall is 6/5 (i think?). Anyway, he said it was fine so it's all good. Now I just need to pay the fee to Crasha

    In case anyone is interested, I've found a place in Box Hill that does them for $132 (inc GST apparantly)....maybe the cheap price is because they're located in Box Hill... i_dunno:laugh: Booked it in for Monday, hopefully I won't discover anything wrong with me that I didn't already know about

    I'm not scared of heights myself (falling yes, heights no) but I do know two guys who both work as pilots (one as an instructor) who are both scared of heights...so maybe it's different being in an aircraft as opposed to a tall building or something? (Hope this helps even a little)

    I think I can manage that one on my own thank you Nope I was calling some local to my house - round Doncaster/Donvale/Blackburn areas. I also wondered if the city might be more expensive but I might give a few a call just to check anyway.

    I'm short sighted in one eye so the other one essentially corrects for it and I very rarely need to wear my specs, so hopefully I'm good enough to get over the line and not need to wear them when I fly. I don't need them when I fly now, surely it can't be that different just because the plane's a little bigger? *hopes* I'd do it soon if I were you, the Crasha website claims it takes them 3 weeks to process a medical

    The main thing I'm worried about is being told I have to wear my specs to fly. But I don't need them to drive (or anything much really) so hopefully I won't need them to fly... pee test? Don't use em anyways, so that's all good. (what do they actually do?) a last ditch attempt to get fit?

    Yes, it's an awfully good likeness, isn't it. The $165 place had times available a few days next week so I think I might need to let CASA get ahead otherwise I'll get to the medical and not have my ARN. I figure that between the $165 place and the $161 place I should be able to get an appt pretty soon after I get my ARN :)

    Whilst I can't afford a Monaco yacht (yet), I can afford a medical Since asking the price so far has saved me around $40, I figured I'd ask a bit further :big_grin:
