    Hi all, I know that to carry pax you have to have done 3 take offs & landings within the previous 90 days. My question is whether this has to be done in an RA aircraft or whether 3 takeoffs/landings in a GA aircraft would count as being current. The ops manual says that the takeoffs/landings must have been "in an aircraft of a "similar" type [their " "] as that to be used for the carriage of passengers". Would a GA aircraft qualify as "similar"?

    Thanks everyone :big_grin: haha, thanks! I've come a fair way from when I thought I'd never be able to land, although I still do some absolute shockers! I'd like to do CPL eventually, but the next plan is tailwheel/aeros :) I guess I'm truly a 'Warrior Princess' now!

    The RA-Aus flying does count towards it, yes. But I had to go over the general handling and go solo etc in the Warrior which added hours. I think it cost me round $15,000 at a guess, perhaps a bit less.

    As the title says, today I got my PPL :big_grin: I can now terrorise all of Australia! I got the immortal "licence to learn" line from my tester, I have to admit I would've been disappointed if he hadn't said it

    Thanks all :) I've looked at the websites of a few clubs, but the main thing that's putting me off is that you have to pay a yearly membership of their club. I don't particularly want to do that since I'm not planning on taking up gliding as a hobby, I'd just like to try it to improve my skills (e.g. forced landings, since you only really get one chance to land in a glider, so it's always a forced landing...), so I'm reluctant to pay the fee. I might email a few of them and see if I can organise a weekend thing without the membership fee or at a reduced fee or something...hmmm

    Hi all, I'd like to try my hand at gliding, does anyone know of anywhere that does gliding reasonably close to Melbourne? I was thinking of seeing if I could organise a '1 day intensive' sort of thing, or maybe go there for a weekend and do a 2 day thing. So does anyone know of somewhere reasonably near Melbourne that teaches gliding and any idea of a rough cost estimate for it? Cheers

    Aldinga just outside Adelaide is a good field, with nice Sportstars. The school's name is Adelaide Biplanes. I did a lesson there when I was visiting a friend and was impressed by the instructor and the school.

    Just out of curiosity, since I have no experience with this, if you fly out of an airport with landing fees (say, Moorabbin, as an example) and you're doing circuits, do you have to pay the fee for every T&G or just the final full stop?

    Then again, half of them probably wouldn't want a girlfriend who flies because (as several pilot blokes have told me) she'd know when he was BSing about things...

    I've told him it might be possible and to call some operators to see if they'll sell to him. It's nothing to do with me now, it's up to him and the operator (I still think he's nuts)

    He's welcome to kill his catalytic converter if he wants, it's not my car! I do have some doubts myself but I said I'd at least ask around and see if it was possible for him to get his hands on some. The rest of it is up to him. (personally I think he's nuts, it's going to ruin his car and I don't see the gain from it being enough to make the price of the AVGAS plus the price of repairs worthwhile)

    If you have a spare $500ish, Abingdon Watches do girly aviator watches. Only problem is that as far as I can see from the pictures, they don't have markings for each minute, only for every 5 minutes. I could be wrong tho (it does seem kinda illogical for an aviator watch not to have minute markings but anyway...). But they're definitely all pretty, you can get one with rhinestones around the edge and stuff. :big_grin: I, on the other hand, ditched the 'girly' and 'pretty' and bought a mens one because it was a limited edition Red Arrows one And congrats on the XC! :thumb_up: If the weather ever improves, I won't be far behind you!

    A friend of mine is planning to race his car and was asking me about getting his hands on AVGAS to put in his car. I'm fairly certain he can't just go to the airfield and buy it because he doesn't have a licence, is that right? But are there any rules that would prevent me from buying a jerry can of AVGAS to take if I wanted to, or can you only buy it for use at airfields/in aircraft etc?

    I love Minis, ever since the new ones came out I've desperately wanted one. Now just gotta save up this year for a nice 2nd hand one (unless I win lotto on saturday night...got me a ticket!). Plane isn't a priority at the moment, mainly because I don't have enough experience to know what I want. I could go out and buy a plane now only to discover that by the end of this year I want a tailwheel aeros machine or something. Too much around to be making any decisions yet!

    Driving. I love driving, even just down to Coles (am I sad?). I am half considering taking up motorsports/rallying when I get my Mini Cooper at the end of this year...

    As far as I remember offhand, it's a CASA requirement for GFPT holders to do a flight with a FI every 15 hours Want more freedom, get a PPL. GFPTs are generally viewed as a halfway step to a full licence so are more restrictive (others feel free to correct me here).

    Wear clothes that are comfortable and cool - the aircraft tend to heat up after a while. And sunglasses (as P4D said). And a water bottle.
