  1. And, irrespective of whether the Greens are in either house, same sex marriages will become the reality. The reason is simple - homosexually is not an issue for younger people but Human Rights is.
  2. Is there any reason to keep Essendon Airport open?
  3. Which airports are you talking about?
  4. Great
  5. We do it all the time. We get a lot of flying school flights. They fly Cessna 747s. From the time they turn on base to the time that they touch down is about 3 minutes. The time from our base turn to touch down is about 30 seconds.
  6. That would make sense.- although, according to a report in the Fairfax press, his last words to the controller where "We have to put it down on the road." Looks like he left his decision until too late. For instance there is some open park land about 500 meters to the north west that would be a better shot. For some reason he spent some time asking the controller if there where any good roads about. Seems like he had a fixation on roads. It would have been better if he had picked some of the playing fields out visually and just landed. Aviate, navigate, communicate.
  7. There is a playing field right next to the road where the crash occurred. What I cannot understand is why the pilot did not try for that.
  8. Thanks. I take it that he uses the non retractable engine as a sustainer. I wonder what the L/D is.
  9. The first flight of the Bonusjet self launching glider has occurred.
  10. Another article, with photos, here. Anybody care to take a stab a what an "aborted stall manoeuvre practice session" is?
  11. My flying style often makes our CFI suicidal but this is something different.
  12. I do not know the rules for hang gliders but I image they are the same as for gliders - which means that they can fly up to FL20 without clearance in most of Australia's sir space.

  14. Well, he is stopped in a no standing zone.
  15. Only the front wheel is retractable. The stall speed (such as it is) is less than 42 knots.
  16. I agree that thermals often rotate. I think that a left hand turn into the thermal is more likely to work. That is a thermal is more likely to rotate in a counter clockwise direction as view from above. As somebody has already said, look for eagles.
  17. I think its the reciprocal track - not heading. And its the track that was being flown - not the one that should have been flown.
  18. These two Varezes are registered with 19 prefixes which, as I understand it, means that they are homebuilt LSAs.
  19. I guess you would have to define what "right" looks like. Certainly they look sleek - and fast. I'm not sure what the length of the take off roll has to do with the original question.
  20. I'm not sure what your definition of LSA is. Is it the same as Ultralight? The ones here have the same registration as other LSA aircraft. I think the tug comments may have been may have been made "tongue in cheek".
