  1. See if you can find some old guys with lots of experience but no medical, I'm sure they would love to fly, have a friend with two planes ( GA ) and he grabs anyone with a licence that wants to fly as he has no medical and that way he can go flying.
  2. I feel your pain, lack of relevant knowledge is the key to a lot of the hesitation or resistance to tackle. If you understand all about weather, turbulence, mountain wave and thermals you will be able to avoid or anticipate. Having fear or hesitation is healthy and normal, I think those with no fear or overconfident is dangerous and I know some people that have fallen in this catergory and know of serious risks they have taken. Fly with others to learn their habits, enjoy the view and remember why you want to fly. I would recommend a flight in a glider as you will understand the thermals and the silence is relaxing, Aerobatics could put you off but is definitely a good thing to do to improve flying skills and an understanding of how an aircraft behaves.
  3. I have never heard of the Tanamai pump before reading this thread. I did try to make a similar thing but was not reliable and had decided to use a 12v fuel pump at that point until I read this thread. I bought 2 units as I use steel Jerry cans to fuel my tractor and use plastic jerry cans to fuel plane, I preferr plastic as steel cans tend to have more contamination. Tanamai have all different types of units, the unit I got for plastic Jerrys is the Frazer, I have six plastic and one is a Willow and it is probably the most preferred by me, it has a large lid, top and side handle which makes it easier to pour but the Frazer unit will not fit this container. If you don't have any Jerry cans at the moment do your research, I would go for the Willow. I tried the bike pump and a small 12v compressor and all good. My plastic Jerrys are only used for plane and I use mr funnel always.
  4. Just received and tried Tanamai pump, works really well. Thankyou to all those who recommended it, it was a good investment and am very happy.
  5. The best thing to do is get a copy of the Sydney Basin guide, probably pick one up from one of the schools or pilot shop around Bankstown or Camden if that's near you or see these links. http://www.bankstownairport.com.au/Aviation/Pilot_Info/Visual_Pilot_Guide/Visual_Pilot_Guide_1.aspx http://sportpilot.tv/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/Flying-the-VFR-Coastal-Route-Victor-1-2013.pdf http://www.iainhosking.com/flying/doc/casa/vpg/sydney.pdf https://www.casa.gov.au/standard-page/visual-pilot-guides?WCMS%3ASTANDARD%3A%3Apc=PC_90007 http://www.airservicesaustralia.com/wp-content/uploads/VCA_hotspots_Sydney.pdf
  6. From what I saw you can get forms with out logging in, I could be wrong ! If you need any call me and I'll email to you as I have already logged in.
  7. Your right Yenn, relax and don't get excited it was not that great. Go for a fly ! Much more exciting !
  8. Just logged in, looks good. The only thing I miss and it's been gone a while is the history page which I think is essential to remember our origins as the plastic fantastic are nothing like our original chariots. Having started in rag and tube I think it's important to not loose our history.
  9. Read what I said again, and don't misquote me ! I know the rules very well thankyou !
  10. I'm one of those who use to pour jerry cans into mr Funnell, I now put jerry can on towel use ball siphon hose into Funnell but can won't fully empty until I hold it up when level is low, I have an spare electric pump and intend to try set it up with power from ride on mower, method of a drum and pump is fine but, filling the drum is a problem, service station require the drum to be on the ground, I don't know if they accept a wire grounding, when you get the drum to plane what do you do, can't refuel in hangar, do you keep drum outside or leave in trailer, I find the drum a little problematic. A dedicated fuel trailer would be fine but a little costly.
  11. It states they are modified to 130 HP each so 260. A little heavy too, nearly the same as C172, and that would go pretty good with that HP.
  12. Kasper, you should read the Jabiru limitation again because it can go into CTA but no over populated areas such as Bankstown.
  13. Thanks 01rmb, seems I misunderstood it not having local knowledge. There is a lot of airstrips on that CTAF frequency.
  14. Impressive yes but as you say Downunder 260hp !, when I looked it up I was shocked at the specs being 2 X 914, you would have to wonder what the performance would be with 260 HP up front with only the one engine. A question for the Aero dynamically gifted ! Would the front prop disturb the airflow so the rear prop would not be as efficient as if it had clean airflow ? So two engines at the front would be more efficient than a "push me pull me" ?
  15. Yes please, nice machine, but with 2x 914 Rotax is not going to be cheap !
  16. I just looked on chart and they got it wrong as it was 124.2 not 124.3 ,hope the rest is right ! Should make communication a little easier with its own frequency.
  17. Received from RAPAC. Aeronautical Information Package (AIP) Supplement (SUP) H95/15 – VHF Frequency Change Ballina (BNA) 124.3 to 126.05 Effective 12 October 2015 has been issued. You can access the AIP SUP H95/15 via the Airservices website:http://www.airservicesaustralia.com/aip/aip.asp. This email is intended to provide forward notification to aircrew, aircraft and ground operators, and air traffic control in relation to the upcoming changes to the Ballina (BNA) ‘on ground’ radio frequency.
  18. Bottom of the page, https://www.raa.asn.au/members/accident-incident-summaries-2014/ There is information that was provided about cable lock nut requiring an access hole to be cut to inspect tightness of locking nut. I have also been made aware of another factor which I don't want to post here as that has not been published I don't think.
  19. YOU ARE PART OF THE PROBLEM NOT THE SOLUTIONS ! You have no idea of what reliability is about because years ago most Ultralight engines were two stokes, Rotax and Jabiru are the best things that ever happened ! You hurt Jabiru you can winde you watch back 20 years. If you are interested in aviation learn the facts and don't tolerate BS, and that's what you just spun and that is what the ignorant at CASA have done ! Please stop learning and find another sport if you want to wreck this one !
  20. One of my wife's favourites ! Son, you're going to have to make up your mind about growing up and becoming a pilot. You can't do both.
  21. It is good that he is admitting as there are things going on over what CASA imbeciles have done and CASA has to find a way out and this may be the start to resolves what the fools have done ! The power crazed imbeciles need to undo the mess and I hope that they get rid of them as they are as popular as rats under the house ! The fact that Truss and Skidmore were at Ausfly show they are in patch up mode and they need to undo some serious damage done to Sport aviation. The article was Well spotted but Skidmore's not likely to say too much until he has the fix !
  22. Heaps of whales migrating south of the mid north coast.
  23. You should know the rules ! The straight in approach rule is clear about straight in intention and calling and not disrupting circuit traffic look it up ! I always let RPT have right of way as a courtesy not to let them get pissed with ultralights, it's called airmanship ! Existing circuit traffic has right of way and straight in approach must only do if possible and not disrupt circuit traffic !
  24. Dazza you are right about that but it not just students you come across as you can see !
  25. I meant to give you the link. Enjoy. http://www.flightsafetyaustralia.com/avquiz/
