As I said earlier Port Macquarie is busier than Coffs Harbour and is a CTAF, has plenty of RPT and flight training. Don't need a medical in CTAF so when he has lunch you don't need medical. I have a PPL with class C and D so I have the privilege but I feel transit is no big deal at certain locations for RAA with some training.
-
And even more ridiculous is when the Coffs Harbour tower controller goes to lunch the CTA becomes a CTAF and then RAA pilots can transit or land and even take off. For those who don't know when getting ATIS and it is broadcast as Zulu then the tower is closed.

Tailwheel Skyfox CA25 too easy?
Camel replied to Denny Fiedler's topic in Student Pilot & Further Learning
I agree with you roundsounds as it may appear, it was done to not stop anyone flying if they were truly competent, but it is likely a low hour pilot is not competent and should not risk flying a Jabiru after flying a Drifter as the examples quotes. -

Camel replied to Denny Fiedler's topic in Student Pilot & Further Learning
No it's not, your making it up, here is the definition as I already cut and pasted ! You need to read the ops manual. https://www.raa.asn.au/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/Operations-Manual-Issue-7_Single-pages-with-new-CAO-95.55-Mar-15.pdf The question about new types of aircraft being imported or built was asked at the CFI conference, the answer was that most instructors would have used most design features so assess whether you are competent, if not get someone else. From version 7. Aeroplane Group. See Section 2.04 for designations, which are generally divided by control design e.g. Group A – three axis control aeroplane. Aeroplane Type. Aeroplane undercarriage configuration, design features, flight envelope (e.g. high drag/low drag and considerations of inertia), stall speeds and normal/ emergency handling characteristics as designated by the manufacturer. TYPE TRAINING 13. No Pilot Certificate holder shall operate a recreational aeroplane as pilot in command without having demonstrated competency on Type. Aeroplane Type Training must be undertaken with an RA-Aus Examiner who holds the respective aeroplane group and type. The RA-Aus Examiner is required to make an entry into the pilot’s logbook detailing confirmation of the training undertaken and achievement of competency in accordance with Section 2.02 of this manual. Note: Logbook entries showing a minimum of 2 hours pilot in command of an aeroplane type recorded prior to Issue 7 of this manual will be accepted as evidence of appropriate type training for that aeroplane. -
Tailwheel Skyfox CA25 too easy?

These are some relevant FAQ on version 7 changes from RAA website. Hope it helps, Seems people are making it a big deal as if you never flown a similar aircraft don't risk hurting anybody. I don't think training is a bad thing. Q: What sort of aircraft characteristics does type training refer to? A: Aircraft performance - Fast- greater than 100KTS, Medium – 60-100KTS, Slow- less than 60KTS, Avionics - Glass cockpit, steam gauges, combination, Wing configuration – high lift and high camber wings, high speed wings, elliptical or box canopy, strutted versus wire braced, Fuel system – taps, cross-feed, injection, pumping systems, Ancillary flight controls and lift devices - Flaps, dive brakes, trim, cowl flaps, carburettor heat, slots, vortex generators, electric or manual, Pre-flight considerations – aircraft construction – metal, composite, fabric, combined, Cockpit ergonomics – yoke, control stick, position of controls, seat access, door securing systems, canopy securing. Q: I trained on a Drifter for my Pilot Certificate and I am thinking about buying a Jabiru, what do I have to do? A: Before your first flight in the Jabiru, you are required to undertake specific training with an RA- Aus Examiner (RA-Aus Senior Instructor or higher) in the new type in order to ensure you understand the flight characteristics, design features, systems and other aircraft specific information. The Instructor should make a logbook entry stating the following: {name and member number} has satisfactorily completed type training on a {model} on {date}. Signed {Instructor name and member number} and dated Q: Do I still need a High Performance endorsement to fly my Sportstar aircraft? A: No, both High and Low Performance Endorsements are no longer required and have been replaced by the recommendation for Type Training and a logbook entry by the RA-Aus Examiner once training is completed. -
I also have a problem, when I lock the map with the lock tab on the right top I can't unlock it, I turm off and on the Ipad to get it back, what am I doing wrong ?

I know nothing of legal issues but I too have a private strip and my understanding is noise that is something that council has control over especially weekends and early morning. Once noise is an issue then it concerns council and the zoning plays a part too. I avoid making any noise near neighbours for that reason, the first other plane came in a couple of days ago and the neighbour commented that it was louder than mine, definitely a worry !

I think it's more about what time he had it on !

He did not even reply to my email. Any replies I got were totally unbelievable. The biggest disgrace is after getting no satisfaction from W Truss I wrote to PMs office and they said the relevant minister would reply! NO reply, bunch of -------- and -----------. I have the FOI as well as those who I have sent it to and that is a load of BS too, the numbers are not there ! Expedite ! They added a year ! What a bunch of ------------------- . There is no doubt that CASA could not organise a chook raffle.

CASA seem to be expert at shrinking the aviation industry. They get everyone's confidence, then give it to them. So why sponsor AusFly ? like how they sponsored Natfly ? So they can be in charge ! CASA name didn't appear on sponsor list of Australia's International AirShow. Why not ? http://www.airshow.com.au/airshow2015/PUBLIC/airshow/sponsors-stakeholders.asp. CASA sport aviation have proved without doubt they are not out to promote sport aviation ! AusFly Sponsors AusFLY wouldn't be possible without the generous support of its sponsors. Become an AusFLY 2015 sponsor and be a part of the premier airshow for amateur built aircraft in Australia. Want to be a sponsor? I like your explanation and heard a similar story almost twenty years ago from a happy and friendly pilot mate who stumble across them. -
There is no problem, your qualifications will be recognised by RAA. Just probably need to do a check ride, review or type conversion with a CFI and join RAA and get issued with RAA pilot certificate. See page page 80 section 2-13 RAA operations manual. https://www.raa.asn.au/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/Operations-Manual-Issue-7_Single-pages-with-new-CAO-95.55-Mar-15.pdf SECTION 2.13 RECOGNISED FLIGHT TIME AND/OR QUALIFICATIONS For the purpose of this manual recognised flight time is: For gaining a Group A Pilot Certificate and associated Endorsements, Ratings and Approvals: (a) dual and pilot in command hours gained in obtaining and maintaining a CASA aeroplane, helicopter, gyroplane, airship licence or overseas equivalents or Australian Defence Forces wings standard, overseas equivalents, a GFA Glider Rating or overseas equivalents and endorsements, ratings and approvals associated with these qualifications; and (b) dual and pilot in command hours gained in obtaining a CASA Recreational Pilot Licence and former equivalent or graduation from an Australian Defence Force basic pilot’s course, whatever called; or ©verified logbook entries of training undertaken towards the attainment of a Licence or Certificate with a recognised organisation; or [*]For gaining a Group B or C or D or F Pilot Certificate and associated Endorsements, Ratings and Approvals: (a) all dual and pilot in command hours flown when obtaining a Pilot Certificate with another RAAO, or equivalent overseas qualification and endorsement, rating and approval associated with these qualifications for the corresponding Aeroplane Group; or (b)verified logbook entries of training undertaken towards the attainment of a Licence or Certificate with a recognised organisation. [*]Notwithstanding Paragraphs 1 and 2 of this Section, the Operations Manager may disallow overseas qualifications without recourse. [*]For the purpose of this manual recognised qualifications are validated Licences, Certificates, Endorsements, Ratings and Approvals and overseas equivalents from recognised NAAs and RAAOs.

RPL recognition of Cross Country Endorsement
Camel replied to DrZoos's topic in AUS/NZ General Discussion
Turbo you are right but the conspiracy is not, it's in black and white, as you say " read the regs" What is a recreational pilot licence (RPL)? A recreational pilot licence (RPL) is a new flight crew licence introduced on 1 September 2014. It authorises pilots to fly light, single-engine aircraft as the pilot-in-command independently of a flying school, without supervision. The RPL replaces the student pilot licence and general flying progress test (GFPT) that existed under the Civil Aviation Regulations 1988. It is also available to pilots who have an RA-Aus pilot certificate. Before operating independently of a school, new RPL holders should make sure they are fully aware of their new responsibilities. Initially, pilots need to complete a flight review with an instructor and make sure they are familiar with the new regulations and their responsibilities when exercising the privileges of their RPL. -
Aust Aircraft Kits, AAK at Taree are agents for their bits according to AAKs website. Olie might be worth a call to see if he has any. I like the vernier throttle but when I had my Sportstar others had trouble with it as they would try to force it and GA pilots would not even push the button and want to force it, mine never packed up but I watched it like a hawk and when someone tried to force it I nearly broke their hand, really need absolute basic for some people as no appreciation for equipment, I'm a mechanic and a plant operator, I love machinery, some people should not be allowed near it.

Pretty sure it's Kaspar the same mob who made the props for Sportstars. I seen their web site long time ago. http://www.kasparaero.cz/en/category/throttle_control/7.html

RPL recognition of Cross Country Endorsement
Camel replied to DrZoos's topic in AUS/NZ General Discussion
I heard people say that it shouldn't be allowed to teach in a piper, the first one I landed I was surprised how easy it was and that is the problem, they are too easy to land compared to other aircraft. -
Private Airstrips near Nelson Bay question?
Camel replied to gareth lacey's topic in AUS/NZ General Discussion
FACTS you need to know. Coffs does not have radar ! I believe it has weather radar only. Coffs has high ground to the west and is typically cloud covered which is where aircraft have to go that are not permitted in control. Coffs is not as busy as Port Macquarie which is not control ! Coffs RPT traffic is mostly brought in over land and transit traffic is kept coastal, over water and usually not above 1000 feet. The harbour at Coffs is the problem area as there is high ground to the north of runway centreline and the Harbour When there is traffic around the harbour when I have been transiting they require aircraft stay outside the harbour where on most days people cut across. The other problem is most light aircraft are put on runway 10 and that goes straight over the beach, so transit aircraft would be better up high. Instead of going further out you could go up or down, at 500 feet or 2000 feet outside the harbour you would be clear of traffic. When you see traffic at Bankstown close up especially on parallel runway you will understand there is no problem with Coffs, the other way is take transit traffic straight over the top of the airport at a safe height. Which I believe would be the safest option. The biggest problem is Coffs has no radar and the controller relies on you to give an exact position which I have seen to be a problem as an aircraft filled my windscreen which was not suppose to be there. The other plane had a whinge and tried to blame me but when I was told I marched up the tower and ripped in to the negligence of the other aircraft not reporting correctly, I never heard another word about it. Coffs is dangerous with a Control tower and would be safer without it or if they had radar then they could operate safely without any reason to stop transit aircraft in a lane or above. One day I took off and control was at lunch so we flew all around the hills around Coffs and taken photos of friends places, was doing all the right things with other aircraft giving position etc and when the controller came back the fun was over, the controller asked what my intensions were ? Was I going to say having fun, I said I was to the northwest and inbound shortly, what can the controller do he is scared there is someone flying around those hills ! -

And I flew in and out of Coffs for years. When the air traffic controller goes to lunch it's a CTAF ! There is no reason to limit transit traffic. The only thing for certain is Airservices and CASA are completely out of touch with anything and are literally STUPID ! -

Boeing Stearman Attacks R44 in UK
Camel replied to Rotorwork's topic in Aircraft Incidents and Accidents
Tracy may be a lot like Amy, I read the book on Amy Johnson and she did bend her plane a few times, the funniest part of the book was her landings were referred to as arrivals. Amy is still my hero as she never gave up and fulfilled her dreams. I hope Tracy does do the trip, I think it great to see people take on an adventure, I would not have the guts to do what she wants to do. Good on her, hope she don't wreck too many more aircraft, LOL. -
