  1. If you come over to the east coast Fly Illawarra at Shell Harbour have an Evektor Harmony you can hire solo or dual. They also have access to an Evektor SportStar. You need to book about 3 weeks ahead to get a slot.
  2. The Rotax 916is is 1352 cc and produces 160 hp.
  3. I have always thought this mission failure was more about the attitude of the US military. If it had been the Isrealis they would have planned for the effects of flying at a low level over a sandy desert for hundreds of kilometres and if they had got down to only 1 serviceable aircraft they would have continued the mission.
  4. Perhap they are referring to the engine design/type. Zonsen certainly do not have the (aviation) engine volume to make this statement about their own aviation products. Could be limited marketing noose accidentilly making this statement but it does not help their public image when lack of volume and hours is the major issue.
  5. https://www.facebook.com/AeroZonsen
  6. It is not usual for a speedo to read 5-10% higher than actual but... .... the odo on the same device will be + or - 3%.
  7. The biggest problem is going to be the cross country endorsement. It is very hard to argument that there was any basis for issuing this and it directly contributed to his death.
  8. Agreed but this is partial liability. Also the deceased pilot had partial liability for poor judgement. While these will reduce the size of the payout it still leaves RAAus with a sizable partial liability for lack of supervison of his training and issuing his cert and endorsements. Lots of legal costs and a sizable payout is the last thing we need.
  9. There are two potential legal actions here. A criminal action for withholding information from the Coroner. This depends on how p*ssed off the Coroners Office are and how much pressure their management apply to the DPP. A civil action for negilence in issuing his certificate and endorsements. His girlfriend appears pretty motivated to pursue this.
  10. If you are ever going to have 2 people in this tent do not purchase a 2 man tent. You need at least a 3 man tent and there are a lot of reasonable but cheap 4 man dome tents.
  11. We are now going off at tangents. The law is not clear on whether you 'own' the airspace above your property. It allows for you to use it but in many cases also allows shared use by non-owners. Is it reasonable to try to charge for airspace at a significant height above the owners actual use ? Probably not, unless your objective is simply to repel others. Can we leave it here ?
  12. Snowys have them for only $480. A good mat but probably a bit more than you want to pay unless you do a lot of cold weather camping.
  13. Normally I go for a middle of the road 4 man dome tent. A 2 man tent is pretty small even for 1 person. Is weight really a facter ?
  14. Check the tent is long enough. Touching the end will get your sleeping bag wet from condensation. Or take a rubbish bag. Definitely need an insulating sleeping mat if you are camping anywhere cold. You lose more heat thru the ground than the air. Jetboil is a one trick pony but it boils water faster than any other stove type.
  15. You need a Jetboil Flash
  16. For licensing moving to a RPL with Class 5 medical is straight forward. Has anybody successfully moved a plane from the RAAus register back to the CASA register and what costs and how long did it take ?
  17. There appears to be a lot of history which some of us here are not aware of. If you have facts then please state them. RAAus being a company surprised me and I am not aware of why this happended. However from what I know they do a reasonable job with limited resources. Withholding information from the Coroner was stupid. But.... .... we are where we are. What is the best option moving forward with what RAAus is now ?
  18. Yes and no. "you own the airspace above your property that is necessary for your ordinary use and enjoyment of your land" and "A majority of court cases have concerned cranes or machines carrying weight that have passed through a property without the neighbouring owner’s consent. The success of these court cases have found in favour for both developers and land owners, varying between granting an injunctions to stop developers from using the airspace to granting the developer access to use the airspace without the landowner’s consent." Good luck getting any court in Australia to say you own the airspace at circuit height under any circumstances.
  19. A few points; - does CASA really want control and managing 10,000 pilots and 3,000 planes back ? Control probably yes, management workload probably no. - if criminal actions against RAAus or its officers are successful then insurance may be void. This is probably not what his girlfriend wants if she brings a civil action against RAAus. - any civil damage award may be reduced by his partial liability (poor decision making) and his girlfriends partial liability ie being too scared to fly with him and her PPL training meaning she knew or should have known she was required to report him to CASA which did not occur. So we are left with does the cost of legal action and any damages bankrupt RAAus. This is the real risk which may take 5 years plus to play out.
  20. Legally unenforcable.
  21. The height of Camden traffic overflying The Oaks it a significant part of this problem (as Skippy points out). Camden being 649 ft below The Oaks makes this more likely to happen. Surely nobody is saying 'dont bother calling' if you are at or just above circuit height ? A good way to find out if an airfield is populated is to listen on their CTAF.
  22. The issue is that departures from The Oaks 36 or 18 do not fly over Camdens circuit area but upwind departures from Camden 24 fly almost directly over The Oaks.
  23. But AVDATA do have a contract with the Airfield owners. Most airfield owners have a website where they state their charges. Really this argument should be with the airfield owners if you are being charged for usage that did not occur.
  24. I thought they only charged for landings ? They have been used in incidents before but I understand ATSB do not specify the source due to lack of proof of chain of custody.
