  1. Daily commuting would still probably be legal. The flexibilty of rural areas allows many activities without council approval.
  2. Short answer; yes he can fly below 500 feet over your house while landing on his property. Both of you have a right to enjoyment of your property. Both of you must be realistic in the actual, as opposed to perceived, risk of any activaty. If there are trees and power lines he may be restricted in the approach path he can follow. Perhaps there are options here but I would be careful to not attempt to aggressively persuade him to perform any actions he might consider dangerous. If he is landing once a week in daylight hours in a rural area I would consider this a low impact activity.
  3. The PPL needs to be an RAAus member and do a 5 hour-ish RPC conversion. A GA BFR counts for both but a RAAus BFR only counts for RAAus.
  4. I'm certified and an L1 too. Online does not really teach you a lot. A practical engine specific course would be better.
  5. But do they ? 10,000 ga pilots to manage on what they say is an already limited budget.
  6. I cannot see any way to currently get an L1 endorsement.
  7. If you put Evektor in as a manufacturer here you get the official ICAO type codes for their different models - https://www.icao.int/publications/DOC8643/Pages/Search.aspx You can see Evektor re-used the EV97 code on 2 different models but neither is the Sportstar The Sportstar is EVSS. While your manual may have been accepted by RAAus as valid it could cause legal problems later on.
  8. I understand what I am asking for. I am definintely pushing for factory involvement in this entry into the Australian market. I note a lack of factory involvement in the US market also. Without the factory being seen to support their product in our market people will just wait. How about a public statement from the factory about how they view the Australian market ?
  9. Actually says "Flight Manual for SportStar Ultraight Airplane" but has everything I would expect in a POH.
  10. This may be useful; says Sportstar POH, Dec 10 2003, second edition. Looks like it has a single tank. https://www.skyviewultralights.ca/student-resources https://www.skyviewultralights.ca/_files/ugd/f9edee_eee78221340d4f549dc388370bb89005.pdf?index=true
  11. I understood that the Sportstar was approved as an LSA in the US in 2005 but probably built earlier. I believe the Eurostar was a lighter weight and only sold in Europe. Evektor re-used the EV97 ICAO identifier on the Harmony.
  12. You known thats a EuroStar (EV97) POH right ? Dont you have an early model SportStar (EVSS)
  13. I do not have a problem with Zonsen (previously Zhongshen). They have produced millions of small motorcycles and are an engine supplier for other motorcycle manufacturers including piaggio. They appear to have started in 1982 and are a conclomerate of 52? companies with approx 20,000 employees. Aviation engines are a different market where reliability is critical. I need information in order to make a purchasing decision. Why would you not give it to me?
  14. ASTM is a standards process that the manufacturer self certifies against. Royal Enfield does the same thing in India. But I am still wondering about the reliability, endurance and quality of the product. Sell it to me.
  15. This is good but it does not take us anywhere. I have a 2021 Indian made Royal Enfield motorcycle. There are youtube videos showing European style, automated, very clean, organised Royal Enfield production lines. The motorcycle is okay but its build quality is less than a new Suzuki motorcycle that I owned in the 80s. "How do Zonsen look for and receive feedback from their non-Chinese customers ? (question for Zonsen and distributor only)" I ask this question because there appears to be a disconnect between the factory and its (potential) international customers. Do they have an international marketing department ? Why do they not see the advantage of proving themselves in Australa ? Data gathered and publicised here could help them a lot in the more lucative US market. The factory providing 10 engines at no cost and then the distrubtor fitting those 10 engines is a no brainer. What does it take to get any response from the factory ?
  16. I think we need to get back to Zonsen; show us what Zonsen reliability and quality control is. How do Zonsen look for and receive feedback from their non-Chinese customers ? (question for Zonsen and distributor only)
  17. Agree, but we are talking about introducing a new Chinese product into the Australian market now. Presumably the Australian distributor wants to make a profit before they die (joke) and the manufacturers approach right now makes this unlikely.
  18. A bit harsh. I think many Chinese industries have moved on from a lot of poor practises but most are still not US/Europe equivalent in their manufacturing processes. Some parts of Chinese industry will be further, perhaps much further, ahead in their processes but again we cannot identify them. Changes in branding and Chinese business not understanding that reputation is frequently tied to a name in Western societies is a big oversight. ISO processes, even in Australia, are all about paper work and for some time there has been a disconnnect between the standards and manufacturing quality.
  19. I do not think this is about the 'Western mindset'. This is about the rest of the world seeing billions of billions of dollars worth of low quality products coming out of China for the last 50 years. We know China can produce high quality products but we cannot identify them. Chinese brands changing names is another problem. We are asking for Zonsen to prove their product is not low quality and we need this data to come from non-Chinese sources. 10 x 912ULS equivalents flying in Australia would seem to me to be the fastest (and cheapest) way to do this. Does Zonsen read this forum ?
  20. But first the manufacturer needs to provide a volume of 'in use' engines in Australia, lets say 10 x 912ULS equivalents. One here and one there is going to take a very long time to build a reputation. I would have expected the manufacturer, not distributor, would have born a lot of this cost. For $4K more I would buy a Rotax.

  23. If you search the CASA site for the RPC to RPL conversion form one of the documents required is an ASIC.
  24. I am 68 and currently flying with a Dynon EFIS. I find it faster to pull info from than a six pack. It is more what you have the hours on as to which is more usable to you. This plane has a backup EFIS with its own ADAHRS which I understand is more of a failure point than the EFIS itself. The PFD also has a backup battery. Its pretty common to have a backup instrument and even a backup battery with a VFR EFIS setup ie Garmin G3X Touch with G5 and battery.
  25. So pretty much how it has been for the last 100 years. "You need us. Can we have a budget increase?" Analysis seems to be missing the bit about threats from 'allies'.
