  1. Basics for meaningful display on Garmin G3X Touch; GSU25 ADAHRS GAP26 Pitot/AOA GAD13/GTP59 interface/temp probe GMU11 Magnetometer GEA24 interface for engine sensors You can do cross country (but not IFR) naviation using the internal GPS. You need an antenna either GA35 (external fuselage mount) or GA26 (internal dash mount) Maps are additional cost. Backup; G5 G5 backup battery GA26 GPS antenna (2nd) You also need a radio that will accept audio alerts from the G3X so probably a Garmin radio. An ADS-B in/out transponder is also recommended. Note you need an approved GPS source for ADS-B which the internal G3X GPS is not. Real answer is talk to a Garmin shop, above is just the basics. PS Buy the 10 inch screen as the 7 inch displays a lot less (not just smaller screen).
  2. My understanding is mosaic is about heavier LSAs and more passengers on self declared medicals. Will be interesting to see what that turns into here.
  3. It is a 4 seater so yes for this new type. A factory built Mtow 600 Sling 2 with 912uls is AU$300,000.
  4. Price is in the ballpark. A 4 seater Sling TSI with Rotax 916 is over AU$500,000.
  5. Some of the Garmin ADS-B out/in transponders can generate alerts from the transponder. So even without a Garmin efis or Garmin radio you can generate audio alerts via audio-out and audio-in on your radio/intercom.
  6. Not meaning to be grim but if you have no shared assets and you are unlikely to outlive an event that causes significant other damage, do you need any public liability insurance at all ?
  7. Denys has one up too, altho he is a little pro-Ukrainian biased; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xQEghJ8UVWk The main issue seems to be that Russia were very slow to shut the airspace.
  8. Interesting that mainstream media are still saying the downing is from an unknown cause when there are several vids showing straphnel damage to the aircraft.
  9. I understood that while the C182 had a transponder it did not have ADS-B. The travel distance from Camden to the Oaks is very short and it would not take much to forget to change. There, but for the grace of god ...
  10. Am I missing something. Isn't it a very good idea to verify stall speeds on a newly purchased aircraft.
  11. It is all doable. Problem is you have an entrenched base of millions of current/old model aviation radios. Unless you make it compulsory take up will take decades. Making it compulsory will likely lead to a very loud negatve responsive which will kill it in less than 12 months. I always wonder why existing VHF aviation radios cost more than $500 and still use AM.
  12. https://www.casa.gov.au/about-us/news-media-releases-and-speeches/access-controlled-airspace-and-controlled-aerodromes-sport-and-recreation-pilots Not a lot of details, sometime in 2025.
  13. Is this correct because I cannot locate a minimum octane in the SB ? They did say that in certain circumstances 98 is recommended but their description of those circumstances is still not clear to me.
  14. US 91 octane (AKI) approx equals Aus 95 octane (RON)
  15. Every trip we take, whether by car, rail, boat or plane, exposes us to risk. Not accepting 98 octane mogas because you were told to only use 95 octane makes no sense and I suggest using the 98 would add zero extra risk. However, travelling 230 km extra distance to get another fuel has a definite extra risk. I am not a mechanical or aviation expert but this is/or should be risk assessment 101.
  16. This is scary. Not having a basic mechanical understanding exposes you to risk. What else is he exercising bad judgement over ?
  17. Normally the Icom A16 (non BT) handheld is $396 but Flight Store have them on a 2 day sale - https://www.flightstore.com.au/icom-ic-a16e-airband-vhf-handheld-transceiver-non I have no association with Flight Store apart from having just purchased one for $350.
  18. Am I the only one finding this SB a bit wierd ? Seems to be "If you do all these things you probably won't have fuel vaporization issues, maybe".
  19. Class 5 medical is, I believe, a hour online course then online exam/declaration and $10 payment, so same same. There needs to be some advantage to move either way and I do not see it.
  20. With availability of Class 5 medical and LAME maintenance required for RAAus group G I cannot see a significant take up of group G any time soon.
  21. You also need to be a bit creative with BF. for example for a 912is the fuel pump upgrade kit with 2 pumps is about $900 whereas a single pump is $1400.
  22. Anybody got documentation for the MARAP process ?
  23. Que ? If it is expired on both hours and calender time how will you be (legally) flying it ?
  24. Looks like the TB2 used Rotax 912is. Rotax stopped supplying them in October 2020. Bayraktar are talking about their own engine (BM100) for the TB2. Only 20 have been made but they are talking about ramping up to 250/annum next year. Bayraktar saying that they need 200 engines a year just for maintenance of the existing TB2 fleet plus however many new drones they produce. So what engine have they been using 2021 to 2024 ? While this means the existing supplier has lots of hours to test/upgrade their engine, it does not mean anything to us unless we get verifiable data.
