  1. I just had another disaster, fuel all over the wing and over me. Does anyone have suggestions for filling high-wing tanks? I transfer fuel to a 10-litre red plastic can, standing on a good platform, but getting it into the tank is the problem. Have tried several funnels but they all fall over at some stage. My small Mr Funnel is the worst. Have tried with and without the funnel that screws into the can. I have never had a problem filling low-wing aircraft. Am I doing something fundamentally wrong, or does everyone have this problem? I have read the posts about using different types of pumps and perhaps will go that way but surely most people just fill from jerry cans.
  2. I think the main plane incidence was due to lack of flaps, not undercarriage length.
  3. That’s a good observation. The Covid lockdowns and isolation have killed motivation for many of us. It started my YouTube habit, and now I struggle to go out into the workshop. But I am determined to get to Avalon next year.
  4. But that is what RAA did before they stopped doing it.
  5. Tar was melting on our roads today. Cheap patchups from a month ago.
  6. Some importers keep stocks of spares including props, and respond promptly.
  7. I'd rather be a sparrow than a snail Yes I would If I could I surely would
  8. Have never been able to wear sunglasses driving or flying. They upset my depth perception. I feel like I am not in the real world when I am wearing them. Wish I could, because glare often bothers me.
  9. Miserably cold and overcast again today. No shed work or flying. Dog is despondent. Wife has gone for morning tea with her mates. Still waiting for the ground to dry out to mow the nature strip.
  10. Never used headsets with Cherokees in the bad old days.
  11. Telephone to glory…

  13. I think it was a quarry, not a mine. Kangaroos can tell the difference. 😀
  14. If you investigate fatals only you learn nothing statistically valid about the cause of accidents, you have to have an accident and incident reporting system that works,
  15. ATSB has a limited budget and in future will not investigate all GA fatals unless the investigation is likely to lead to insights that prevent future serious accidents ie multiple fatals.
  16. I bought a little Garmin dongle that makes my iPad precise. But no longer need it as the Skyecho does the same job
  17. Raa decision is good. We have been paying for investigations but not seeing results. If there is no learning to be had, no point to activity.
  18. Centre stick Vixxen has throttles on the panel. Flap lever still awkward like many high wings eg Auster
  19. I had a FS Texan some years ago and enjoyed it too. Reasonable cruise and short field performance. They seem to have gone out of fashion, haven’t seen a new one for a while. Would still suit me but SWMBO doesn’t like stepping up on a wing any more.
  20. I have an A22 and am about to take delivery of a new A32. It will do everything that I need. Decent cruise speed, autopilot, low stall speed. As an ex GA pilot, the thing I like most is knowing you can put these down in a very tight spot if needed.
  21. With full flap, my Foxbat stiffens up and feels like my Archer. It really feels like it has inertia and stability, like a different aeroplane.
  22. No, but I put the dill in daffodil.
