  1. Perhaps when you get your radio endorsement on your pilot license you'll have it covered?
  2. You can't possibly know it all until you've absorbed a fair bit of advice from YouTube 😅
  3. How many hours are there meant to be in a Kitfox build?
  4. If you love your bird paint your car first 🙃 You don't have a paint booth so pick your time to paint carefully. You need good light but artificial lights create great reflection to attract the bugs. A good sized moth leaves great track marks before becoming bogged down where he flaps till he stops. It doesn't look good. Nobody can paint successfully without a decent amount of practise. There are a few tricks that you learn along the way like spraying the little edges and awkward spots first. These are the areas where you are likely too apply too much paint while trying to get into the corners so knock them off first so the finish strokes are smooth and even. Most of us fall into the trap of trying to get coverage on the first coat. Some paints are quite transparent until they dry. You need an even light wet coat and then walk away until it tacks off before applying a second coat where you'd expect coverage. I'm not a painter but I've done a lot of painting. Most body shops seem to use gravity feed guns, I've always preferred a pressure pot where your paint is delivered down a tube so it doesn't matter what angle you have the spray gun paint delivery is exactly the same. There's plenty of cheap paint out there so spend a lot of time and effort practicing on old vehicle doors or bonnets or something similar to your plane. If you're aiming at multiple colours and designs consider vinyl film. Good luck, it's very satisfying to paint your own. One more thing. You never paint with the gun stationary, press the trigger while starting your sweep and let off before you stop to return 😉
  5. A few clouds came over so I took that as my signal to get out there again. 3 It went well for a while until I saw a great plume of smoke rising from across the fence. I caught it in time but took that as my signal to quit for the moment 😉
  6. I'm taking the opportunity to build Mrs M's carport while the weather is mild, 39° forecast for today that's about 9° cooler than the maximum it hit in the week before last when we left for Perth. The problem is that I'm working with galvanised material that is so reflective that i can't see what I'm doing and the steel is still too hot to handle without gloves. Can't win so I've decided to leave it until the sun goes down.
  7. Next time you leave your country retreat and head into the city take a look about. We did quite a bit of walking on this last trip south and the cameras are hanging like a bunch of grapes on a post particularly down the mall.
  8. Yes Nev you are right however this two stroke thing is like a Yamaha 2-stroke. Getting the correct revs might not be that easy.
  9. Yes but no doubling the clutch when there is none. I think the HiLo change should be done at stand still. The throttle is like a bulldozer, push it down for idle or lift off for flatout normal operation. At that point the noise cancelling earphones are a good idea. It has a 4-71 two stroke diesel that lets the neighbours know how hard you're working.
  10. The plane will sit on the trailer for another week. My LAME will fly into Northam on Thursday morning next week so there's no point in me being there before that.
  11. It has a really nice Twin Disc hydraulic transmission similar to what you'd find in a large boat/trawler. Just swing it from forward to reverse without backing off however I still managed to crunch the gears when I went from Low to High range on the move. That bit is not hydraulic ☺️
  12. That's what happens when you never watch the news. I just came in as the news flash came up in the middle of something Mrs M was watching.
  13. We used to have a service station with the quart and pint bottles on the driveway because it was common to check your oil whenever filling the tank. One day a lady came to the counter and asked for more oil. Her husband had asked her to fill the car with fuel and oil but there wasn't enough on the driveway.

  15. With services like Flightradar 24 it leaves you open to scrutiny by anybody. Your movements are easily tracked once that ADSB transponder is turned on and if you're not going to turn it on than why install it in the first place. Your movements are tracked every day by street cameras picking up your number plate and facial recognition tracking you walking through the city.
  16. No doubt there'll be an element of risk in most communities but hopefully most of us never encounter it. Any city or town with a high indigenous population usually run into problems. There's reluctance from the police to arrest and deal with the perpetrators. Their instructions must come from up the line but there's clear racial prodigious against Caucasian offenders and therefore the indigenous offenders run riot with street drinking and antisocial behaviour allowed to carry on unchecked.
  17. Ripper came home yesterday. After parking it at Ora Banda I thought I should have removed the brand new Kings fridge but we were too far away when I thought about it. I was quite pleased when I jumped up there and saw the fridge still in place. Them my mood took a bit of a dive when Mrs M said "Where's the roof"? The canopy must have been a lift-off device so lifted off somewhere between Ora Banda and Cue. The solar panel has gone as well.
  18. I'll take my chances. A lot of what goes on in small towns is a bit of rivalry between families. I'm aiming to get there on the weekend so hopefully find some idle hands to help slip the wings on. I really need a forklift to take it off the trailer and I'm not taking mine.
  19. Just spotted this on the news flash...
  20. All loaded for the trip south. We only got home last night. I plan to lift it of in Northam and put the wings on. My LAME will fly up to there and inspect it.
  21. Interesting. I just spoke to Andrew at White Gum Park. He has four hangers with accommodation erected and two more in kit form on the ground. They can't be sold as it is a private rural property. It appears he's working in tandem with the White Gum restaurant and caravan park next door. Most likely not suitable for us but I'll drop in for a look.
  22. Both Bindoon and Muchea airports are in the Pearce military training area so they can only fly or train on weekends.
  23. My concern is that you are trying to resolve the high oil level in the rocker boxes. Are you sure that this is abnormal? How would anybody know how much oil is expected to be in the rocker box under normal operation? Nobody can see in there. If you can be sure you are consuming copious amounts of oil you may be on the right track otherwise I'd be looking for other reasons for the sparkplugs failing.
  24. Yes I agree, I think you're trying to resolve a problem that's not there. However if there are no valve seals and if that oil level in No.4 is abnormally high perhaps it can feed oil down the intake valve guide. I'd be looking for other reasons for the plug fouling, fuel, spark or sparkplug heat range. If its burning enough oil to foul the plugs in a short period of time then there'd be a lot of blue smoke.
  25. Yes much bigger than I need because I'll only need space for a vehicle in Northam after I bring the plane to Cue. I just spoke to the LAME. As long as I can finish my flying lessons there in Northam I'll have the plane on a trailer within the next couple of days. I'll assemble it down there and I'm back to flying again. You could easily get four planes like mine in that shed 15m x 15m.
