I'm told the Shire of Northam own the airport so they charge rates and lease. The guy selling it was unwell so I got the figures from his wife. I'll get more info later.

My guess is that it's always there. I don't know the engine but perhaps the oil return is via the pushrod tubes? Most people would have no idea what goes on under the rocker cover during normal operation because we can't see in there. -
I know nothing about these engines but I can't see the connection between an oil flooded rocker box and fouling the sparkplugs unless the valve guides and seals are a problem. There's no other way this oil can get to the combustion chamber. It could come right back to fuel mixture or fuel type causing the spark plug problem. Any sparkplug not firing correctly can appear oiled up. Are your sparkplugs the correct heat range for the job?

I dropped into Northam airport yesterday to checkout the facilities and make a few inquiries. It may have been better done on the weekend when the club members were around but it was worth it anyway. I found a nice front row hangar for sale although the owner was still chewing over the price (he only decided to sell yesterday) it may be ideal if i wasn't for the ongoing fees. I forget the exact prices as I was driving at the time so didn't take notes but from memory the Shire rates is about $1150 p.a and the Shire rent for the hanger space is $5250 p.a. That's over $500 a week after you fork out enough to buy the hangar. It was much bigger than I need at 15m x 15m with a bit of unpaved yard space as well however without renting it to PAYING tenants it looks like a good opportunity to throw a lot of good money away fast. I asked the lady how much it would be to rent some floor space for a light aircraft. She said about $300 a month, a much better deal for me, not so good for the struggling hangar owner.

Lithium battery completely destroys plane just before take off - 176 people emergency evacuated EN Firefighting at Airports An Air Busan Airbus A321 caught fire at Gimhae International Airport in Busan, South Korea, on January 28, 2025, just before takeoff. The fire, which started in the rear section of the aircraft, caused significant damage to the fuselage but left the wings and engines intact. All 176 people on board, including 169 passengers and 7 crew members, were safely evacuated using emergency slides. Seven people sustained mostly minor injuries, with one person remaining hospitalized. Photos on the internet shows the top of the plane's fuselage completely burned off.

This one is powered by the 912ULS but it's available with the injected version and the turbo. They've made some little mods to narrow the engine. The carburettors are swapped so that all linkages are inboard. There's no airbox, it has two conical air filters and water heated carburettor sockets. The radiator scoop on the bottom of the cowl has an actuator controlled by the pilot so that it can be opened and closed to control engine temperature. An audible warning alerts the pilot of excessive cylinder temperature. The kevlar canopy and cockpit is impressive too. It looks like the occupants should have a helmet and Hans device and they'd be fully protected.

There are two, one in front and one in the rear. Andrew said there have been three fatal accidents in the Shark and in two of the three cases they should have had sufficient time to deploy the parachute but neither one did.

Andrew and Leanne say they've borrowed it and will pass it on to somebody else in Victoria who will look after the promotion. One has already sold here. I got the instructions... I just wasn't game to press the big red button. It is fancy Skippy, I'm just upset the Christmas has just gone and I don't have a birthday until November. I suffer from ducks disease but no need for cushions in this one, just press the button to set the seat height. I need a Shark like I sat in this morning, 912ULS with 150kts cruise speed and 150L tank. That would get me there and and there and back......

I spent a bit of time with these guys this morning. Shark Testing.mp4 Andrew was testing the operation of the landing gear. It was interesting to see the setup. The nosewheel is steerable but even if you have the rudder turned at the time the nosewheel straightens itself out before it enters its little hole.

Perhaps one to pass around forum members 😁 I told Mrs M it's always nice an quiet here at the airport after the sun goes down but the Singapore guys are training at night. Hopefully they'll give up soon because it's nearly 9:45pm and I need my beauty sleep.

Keep an eye out for this aircraft. I'm checking it out at 9:00am tomorrow at Jandakot. I was here this afternoon when it went for a test flight after assembly but I didn't know it was here until after lockup. I don't know if I'll get my bum inside but I can only hope 🤞 Apparently it'll be touring the country for promotion so if you have a spare $400k tucked under the mattress it might be a good time to pull it out. 150kts cruise with a 912ULS and retractable landing gear.

There are only a few airstrips en route and I don’t know that any have fuel. Two of them are in military training space so can only operate on weekends. There would plenty of private unmanned or abandoned airstrips, enough to stop off and refuel with onboard fuel. If I add extra fuel later on I will most likely have a transfer pump so that it can be added inflight. I’ve just been looking at another Sportstar that I attempted to buy last year. It has twice the fuel in wing tanks but the owner has gone to ground, uncommunicative. It’s also been out of registration for several years but is an LSA so different rules apply when reviving it.

I wish I could confirm everything you say skippy but it's a bit difficult to calculate while the plane is sitting in my backyard and I'm sitting in a no-stopping zone in Perth. I took the opportunity to change a LF wheel while I was here because I had to be broken down or have Mrs M walk a very long way to the hospital. I have to slip off my Clark Kent jacket every time I change one of these wheels because they weigh as much as I do.

Yes I realise the limits that’s why I’m talking extra fuel. I’ll know more after I get registered and in the air.

Skippydiesel has posted a lot of details on radiator hoses. I just Googled the automotive sites for mine and got every hose to fit without changing the bend.

I'm not even flying yet but I expect to have a lot of trips Cue to Perth and back. My plan is to see if I can become a member of the Northam Aero Club and use that as my southern base. It's 261.9 nautical miles each way and an hours drive to Perth. Yesterday we left Cue at 4:20pm and arrived here in Bindoon at 11:38pm stopping for about half an hour at Paynes Find for a bite to eat. We are still an hour from Perth. If my plan works out I'll have a little Mercedes van with a bed and basic extras parked at Northam for the travel to Perth. I bought the van to travel around the country a few years back. If that works out my van will be available to known visitors dropping in.
