    It's my own fault for not looking it up but I haven't really read the magazine since it went online. I perhaps should have subscribed to the paper edition but now it doesn't come in the mail I just haven't bothered anymore. Hopefully I haven't missed to much.

    Turbo seems to run fine. I have set everything up regarding cowling opening and outlet sizes and that sort of thing exactly as per the plans so I hope it will go ok. It certainly runs a heck of a lot quieter with the turbo from as much as I can tell on the ground. I think throttled back to around 2600rpm it will probably give a nice cruise and fuel flow but most of all a reasonable noise level also. Fingers crossed anyway. Over 3000 rpm in my standard aerovee almost mandates you need a good set of ANR,s to enjoy the flight.

    How have you been finding the size of the fuel tank for longer trips ? Hoping mine will have a CofA by the end of tomorrow.....

    My RAA to RPL conversion was posted and around 1 week later I had it in the mail. This is especially good as I'm in regional WA and the post times basically assure it was processed at CASA on the same day they received it.

    I was silly enough to build two tail draggers .... hopefully I will test fly the Sonex very soon.

    Well if you were trailering a plane too and from an airport with a flat bed trailer I suspect you'd leave the aircraft in a shed at home for shelter. Lots of car trailers around but purpose building a specific aircraft trailer I image would be quite expensive. I know people do it but it would be a real tight squeeze to tie the nose wheel down. I imagine you'd have to shuffle under the mains if the trailer was to remain under the legal towing width. I think having to tow an aircraft to the airport all the time would really take the fun out of it. Personally I couldn't image having a plane and not storing it somewhere at the field. Folding the wings is easy enough but add trailering and it turns into quite a mission for a local flight.

    Would be a good idea for someone that already had a CH701. I can help but wonder however how these aircraft would go being transported via a trailer on the road. The tail is quite high and I expect would catch a lot of wind when on a trailer. I have noticed when transferring both my planes to the airport they catch enough wind as is and they are both tail draggers. With the added leverage of a nose wheel arrangement you'd want them tied down well. Perhaps a fully enclosed trailer would be more sensible. I think sharing a spot with a second plane would be a little difficult also however the hangarage space required would be significantly less no doubt.

    No, I have always kept it at the airport. Hangar costs for you could be worth looking into with folded wings. Share a spot with a big aircraft like a 172 or 182. Low wings would be no good to share with.

It has an Aerovee engine and ironically the same engine I have bought and built for my new plane.     My aircraft is still for sale. Would consider an offer less than $20 000. I still need to paint the cowling and wheel spats. I have the paint and pin stripes to finish it off and I may get around to it when I have time. I am Sadly about to bring it home from the airport as my second plane now resides in the hangar. Wings fold easily by one, 80kt cruise, 90 L fuel tanks @15 l/ hour. Yours for the taking. -Brett

    I've noticed with the discovery lite the AHRS module is built in. I would still need to buy a compass module and the RDAC and so on but for 2 x extremes vs the Lite there is not much price difference.

    Would you buy a Dynon again or look around considering there are so many options out there? In my current plane I fitted a MGL black and white panel. It has been great but lacks the features of todays latest and greatest.

    G'day all, I was hoping some people may have had experience with either, or preferably both, the latest Dynon and MGL Discovery Lite glass panels and could give me their opinions on them. I guess this is digging up the old 'for and against' argument but with the release of the Discovery Lite recently I was, and still am, undecided which way to go. I am just about at the stage of needing to fit instruments and really need to make a decision soonish. I was toying with the idea of just having a bare basic analog panel but I do like those shiny screens, plus I need to monitor 4 x CHT and 4 x EGT and a boost gauge. I will probably incorporate the radio from either company too, just to make installation easier. If anyone has anything they would like to share about them both, I would be very keen to hear your thoughts. -Brett Sonex builder (almost finished)

    I'm halfway through, I would estimate, building the first and only (at this stage) Quick build Sonex in Australia. This will be my second kit build plane as I'm currently flying my Aeropup while I build the Sonex. I have the Aerovee Turbo engine on the shelf ready to assemble. My current plane also is powered by an Aerovee so no surprises there either. I am extremely happy I bought the quick build option this time. Still deciding what instruments to use and will be the last thing I buy. good luck in what you decide. -Brett p.s. oh and you'll need your wife's approval,,,,,,, someone has to help move wings around, hold onto spanners while you tighten hard to reach bolts and bits and bobs like that... I am forever needing 5 mins help here and there.

    It's a bit of a shame it's not sold in the news agents any more. Even though it doesn't pay for itself that's what drew me to RAA in the first place. I was intrigued by all the articles and also was looking through the for sale section and thought, hey maybe this can be affordable.

    The Aerovee has been ok in terms of reliability. Once I threw away the Aerocarb and fitted a Rotec throttle body it ran great. For my Aeropup I think the Rotax 912 would have been a better engine choice but the plane flies just fine. It's just the climb rate isn't as good as what the Rotax powered versions are getting with the reduction gearbox and bigger props. In terms of reliability I am impressed enough with them to buy a second unit for the Sonex I'm building. In fact my turbo upgrade kit just arrived in the mail 1 day b4 Christmas. Hopefully I will have the Sonex flying by the end of the Year. I wouldn't rush into making any decisions yet about building or buying or what make or anything. Learn to fly first, fly a few different ones and you will be surprised as to what you may find interests you after you have been flying for a bit. Lots of options out there. Something may just pop up when you least expect it. As for me I just like building. :) good luck ...

    With both systems fitted which system do you find works best? Does the SDS injection have any clear benefits over the Rotec Tbi?

    The aeroinjector and rotec arn't really comparable in the same sentence. The aeroinjector is in my opinion is almost impossible to set correctly and leaks fuel if not operated correctly and the rotec bolts on and runs as advertised. I have had both TBI's on my plane.

    I rang Geoff Tonkin as I already had a policy for the Aeropup with them but he quoted around $750 for $60 000. Thought was a bit rich. Don't think anyone I have rang so far was very interested.
