Not much Help Maj but I'll have a Sonex LH wing but will come with the rest of my kit I'm due to pick up next week from Fremantle Port,,,,, I'm guessing the first QB kit landed in Oz,,, can't wait to start building

I was hoping some Aeropup owners may be able to help me out with some real world figures about what sort of climb rates they are seeing from their aircraft. I have been playing around with different Props and curious to hear from others.

Landing fees at Gnowangerup Airfield, WA

I just looked up there Council website and downloaded there fees pdf. $20 landing fee +$40 for less than 5700kg +$150 for 5800 -8000kg +$500 for 8100- 15000kg another aviation friendly town it seems. cheers for the heads up. -
Took off from Geraldton with a sleeping bag and air mattress and the like. Flew to Shark bay over some nice scenery. Stayed a few days caught basically no fish. Fuelled up and flew back home. 5 1/2 hours round trip.

Gday Riley, actually I do have a sweetapple prop but it's for a sonex :) looking forward to trying it out as well. Hi, Facthunter, you're right it is pretty close and the postage is cheap but I have two already from New Zealand for my current plane. Chasing a 3rd and really hoping the last.

G'day everyone, Just a few pics from yesterday. It was a good day up in Geraldton for the airshow. The wind turned up a bit in the arvo which hampered the display of the model aircraft a bit but apart from that, it was a brilliant display. There was quite a good turn up of local pilots and visitors for the annual event. The formation flying was awesome with the Texan and the Victa Air tourer. A good solid display from the Decathlon was nice too. The RAAF display on the pc-9 was a sight to see. I have never seen them do those max rate turns b4 and was just blown away by the performance even though I had seen the roulettes a number of times. There were joy flights on the Beech 18 and Jetranger which were pretty much constant during the afternoon. I wish I had taken a few more photos but watching the displays, I just kept forgetting to pull the camera out. I flew the Aeropup out allowing time to get home before last light and missed the 23 piece Royal Australian Navy Band - WA Detachment concert but from what I hear it was fantastic. I did get some nice video so will have to try and edit it a bit and post on you tube.

G'day everyone,,,, bit of an update I guess as it's been ages really since I have been on the forums as a regular. The plane is flying quite nicely now. A few things I'd like to do though would be to fit the wheel spats and clean up the cowling a bit. I ordered a new prop which hopefully will arrive soon as the rev's aren't quite in the ball park so I'm hoping a finer pitch prop will give me a higher climb rate. I never realised quite how much I liked building now that the plane is virtually finished, so as a bit of a repeat offender, I have bought a quick build Sonex kit due to depart Oshkosh around mid May. I've got some big trips planned this year so am looking forward to seeing how well the pup flies long distances before, I guess, I will have to kiss it goodbye (some day :) ). It would be nice to take it to Natfly as well if I can get the time off work. I will definitely have to make the next Westfly though :)

Well the sonex caught my eye Riley :) I had never seen one in oz yet so thought I would go and have a good look at one in Oshkosh instead and do the factory tour and meet the people.

1- Definitely worth going for sure. 2- I have only been once and that was last year. 3- Won't be going this year but a few from our local club going again. 4- Heaps of light sport stuff there and so much more you won't believe 5- My opinion,,, at the very least 5 days and make sure you don't miss out on the night shows - I found staying at the university was really easy -take good shoes and use the trams to travel around - just join the EAA at the gate and buy tickets then. -Get used to eating American food -try not to buy another plane like I did.

Yeah I had a ball in Oshkosh. Getting to see all the latest gizmo's and planes was all worth it. I only went for 3 days and that was my biggest mistake. Toured through a number of places while I was over in America, but I didn't realise how much I'd under planned for the air show till I was there. -

I used to Fly with an Altronics ANR headset. Now I just keep it for passengers. -

I went to Oshkosh last year and tried all the display headsets. They were all really good.Finally bought the Zulu 2 and wow,,,, comapaired to what I was flying before,,, I will never fly with a cheap anr headest again. I now feel sorry for my passengers with my old anr unit :) -
Just join the EAA up at the gate,, they encourage you too anyway then buy the tickets then. I went the family membership option and saved a fair bit.

All these updates and I still don't even know where I stand. Rego ran out 3 weeks ago. Have rang 4 times and emailed once and I still cant even find out if I am in the pile that needs more info or waiting processing. Very frustrating. The last 2 weeks I've had off work, typically, have been the best flying weather.

I was hoping someone out there that has flown an aeropup with and without spats could tell me the difference in speeds in the two configurations. I know generally its only a few knots, but am just curious. My kit never came with spats and I am weighing up if it is worth buying and fitting them. On a side note would anyone have any Aeropup spats hanging around that they perhaps may be interested in off loading? Cheers -Brett

Would there be anything stopping an aerovee powered sonex from flying into jandakot? Just thinking about the certified/approved engine side of things.

30 mins on the whipper snipper ,,a quick local flight with the misses,,, Earned some really good Browney points would like to have flown the mission in my own plane but I still haven't flown off my 25 hours so had to hire the trusty Shiny Kelmac aviation Tecnam.

Thanks everyone :) been a long time coming but worth it. Cheers Riley ,,, will be nice to finally fly into Bindoon , I'm glad also I came down for those freshen up tail dragger hours as it just made it feel that much easier. The two planes fly so similar. Kileyfil,,, I went with the Aerovee engine, time will tell how it goes long term in this airframe. They don't seem to have quite the same ponies that the jabiru has but good enough for me. They are however a tried and true engine. The jury is still out on this aerocarb. I have had quite a time getting it to run right but seems ok now so hopefully I wont have to touch it again. If I could do it all again I would have bought the 100hp Rotax. From what people say , they fly very well with those extra few horses and the geared down prop. Actually even the Rotax 80hp flies well for those same reasons.
