    No matter how many testimonials have been sent to CASA about success stories of Jabiru owners it has all fallen on deaf ears. Constant pot stirring on social media by those with agendas and bombardment by competitors in disguise has taken it,s toll. Those in CASA who wish to make a name for themselves have taken the ball and run with it no matter what the outcome for Jabiru and those who own them.

    Ten minutes inland of the 12 Apostles is Cobden Airfield - 900 metre sealed runway, Avgas, Clubrooms (always open has toilets, showers, beds, tea and coffee free to Air travellers.) Town a short walk away for food if required. Cobden aero club members are about most weekends so a BBQ or rides into town are there for the asking. Crossing the Heads and following the coast to Port Campbell is a great flight ( check ERSA for "fly friendly info for 12 Apostles to Peterborough), east of Warrnambool there could be Whales just offshore - all great scenery all the way to Portland and beyond. Have fun!!.

    Could be electrical, fuel related or mechanical, methodically work your way through each and eliminate each possibility as you go. Speak to an L2 if you run out of ideas - these things don't happen for nothing. There will be a cause. Good hunting!.

    It was quoted that the RAA site version was 10 meg (of download ) but I couldn't find where to download it anywhere on the RAA site. I wonder how much down load is required for the issuu version. I downloaded the ISSUU version and found it not pleasant to read on my iPad constantly having to enlarge the print to make it comfortable to read as well as positioning the print on the page so it could be read. As usual the RAA CEO chose not to tell the full story leaving out the download required for the issuu version which may not be as palatable. In all his writings recently he constantly puts forward the best version of issues leaving out vital information to make an informed view on his thoughts. (Case in point - how the fee for the magazine was introduced.) I think his approach is underhanded. He should be upfront and forthright with the whole truth of any issue - leading from the front. I don't think we have moved forward at all with regard to transparency.

    Russ, Skeds are scheduled radio reports of your position as you proceed over water, usually at 15 minute intervals nominated by the pilot - organised by a radio call to Melbourne Centre prior to proceeding over water. In the case of a missing report Melbourne Centre will initiate a search if necessary.

    Generally speaking aircraft are for flying not trailering, but having said that I have trailered a Jab fuselage to be refurbished (20K's or so). Wings off is easy - 1 Disconnect the flaps. 2 Disconnect the aileron cables inside the Fuse at the bell rank and free the cable so it will exit the fuse when removing the wing halves. 3 Disconnect the pitto hose where it exits the fuse. 4 Get a friend to take the weight of the wing at the tip, then disconnect the outboard end of the strut, then disconnect the two wing attach bolts at the fuse then with a carefully extract the wing away from the fuse - it my be helpful to have a third person so you can have two people on the inboard end of the wing. Ie. One on the leading edge and one on the trailing edge. 5 Disconnect the inboard end of the wing strut from the fuse. All done. It would be too inconvenient to do whilst tripping around holidaying in my opinion Russ.

    Andy, I'm sorry to hear about your redundancy and disappointed ( but totally understand) about your need to resign from the RAA board. I have read most of your posts and have enjoyed your inputs. I hope you keep posting your thoughts in future. Good luck with the job hunt.

    I'd like to know what was RAA 's involvement in the sanctions placed on Jabiru aircraft. One board member on this forum have been outspoken on this issue prior to the manure hitting the Mistral. My impression is that certain people in the inner sanctum had direct input into CASA becoming involved - absolutely disgraceful !!. I'd also like to know why we cannot operate within our allocated budget?. Why do we have to endure constant fee rises?. Why is the magazine going to cost $70 extra on top of an already too expensive annual certificate fee?. Why is there no concession to members who don't what a hard copy of the magazine?. What are the salaries of the main staff at RAA HQ?. What are the main costs incurred in providing services to the membership?.

    Is that an oil return unit on the dip stick ? Looks like a good way to mount it.

    Hyundai, I believe that engines with hydrolic lifters have a different camshaft profile to accomodate the properties of hydrolic lifters. Did you get any advice as to wether you need to change your cam.

    Dead right DownUnder, I and most of my RAA acquaintances in my corner of the world following a number of price rises for Pilot Certificates and Aircraft Registration in recent years are of the opinion that these fees have reached saturation point as far as to what will be tolerated by the membership. I believe that any price rises should be avoided at all costs. It is not uncommon at pilot gatherings to hear talk of "flying black" when the subject of rising fees. There has already been a downturn in membership recently as people weigh up their involvement with RAA - any further rises will see more members drop off the radar. I say tread very carefully RAA - do not assume members will benignly take another price rise in the neck to cover previous mismanagement. By the way I did you notice how the subject of a fee increase was mentioned almost as a throw away line at the end of the insurance announcement - was that sly or what?. I'm a little disappointed to say the least !.

    Thanks Frank and OK for your replies to my post. I'll delve further into the maintenance manual to understand what has to be done. Good to see that this forum can be used to help fellow aviators for a change instead of the usual brand bashing that continues to plague these pages to its detriment I believe. Well done guys.

    I can verify that the Cold Start kit improves starting as I have used one on my 3300 for the last 18 months with good results, ( the module is only in the cct when the starter is depressed and adds a boost to the standard (left) coil during this time and after start the engine runs on the standard coils. Which is why it is approved for certified engines) I am interested in the, "Choke Jet" mod. Can somebody enlighten me on just exactly what is involved to increase the size of the "Choke Jet" to enable even easier starting. If possible a diagram would be a great aid to understanding what's required. As I understand it the choke jet is just a passage way in the carburettor body (which comes into play when throttle is at idle and choke is fully applied) The mod involves drilling out this passage to 1.6 mm or larger. It is not a removable jet. Is this correct?. I have also been told that once done there is no need to use choke to start the engine - ever. Can someone please enlighten me?

    Cobden Aero Club in Victoria's south west is always very welcoming. BBQ at airfield most Saturdays, the aero club has basic accommodation, free tea and coffee for the flying public as well as toilet facilities.

    I've found mine to be very good. Would recommend to anyone wanting to use for ozrunways or similar in an IPad. Mine is the Bluetooth version.

    Just wash it off with detergent. I had a stain following a leak in a tank outlet and it just washed out after a couple of tries. It also stained the red stripe which with time has faded and is now undetectable. I initially thought I would never get rid of any of the stains but was pleasantly surprised. Good luck.

    Guy's - check out thread MIO MOOV OZexplorerCE. Using a MIO MOOV 360 or 370 ( both have slot for an SD card) for a moving map GPS. I have one and it's a great little GPS. I use it as mainly as a backup but it is reliable and easy to use.

    Yeh David, I saw an Ultrabat aerobatted at Mangalore many years ago and was fearful that the flex in the tail boom under "G" force was going to fold it in two. It didn't of course and was otherwise very impressive. Another got loose after a hand start one year and caused mayhem in the parking area for a short while. Ah for the old days !!

    YCDE (Cobden VIc.) is currently $2.35 per ltr. Looks like price will rise again if fuel excise is lifted as has been suggested lately.
