  1. Ex Telsra tech here too wishing you all the best with your studies and flying - all good stuff.
  2. Post Script to my last post. It hasn't always been this way, hard work and dedication by those on the airport committee of management and the aero club publicising Air Ambulance missions to Cobden and fly-ins and a massive effort to keep a Wind Tower company from erecting wind towers (22) 2 nm directly north of runway 36 has jelled the community to support the Airfield and aroused the shires interest in it's success. The icing on the cake came in Feb. this year when a visit to our last fly-in by the State Minister for Aviation (who flew in in his own plane) saw us secure a $200K donation to seal the runway.
  3. Welcome Magishme, it will only take one TIF and you'll be hooked. Do it soon - you'll love it.
  4. Local shire owns the Cobden Airfield from where I fly, the Airfield is ran by a committee of management on behalf of the shire. This committee is made up by a diverse group of people consisting of pilots, members of the community from all backgrounds and also includes two shire councillors and meetings are also attended by shire works engineer / manager. Local pilots volunteer for mowing roster, working bees, Airport Reporting Officer duties. Fortunately the local community sees the value of having a local Airfield in good condition to be available for any situation should the need arise. The fact that it is good for we recreational pilots is a very minor consideration in community thinking.(as it should be). A grant has been obtained to seal the runway in the new year. Only commercial operators are asked to use the honour box for landing fees.
  5. I've had that happen to me, bit painful in city traffic for a country boy.
  6. If you are accepted by the airforce all you need to do is turn up - they'll give you every thing you need. Good luck with it!.
  7. Welcome Jeff, enjoy the site - I'm sure you'll learn heaps.
  8. Welcome Windshear, good luck with your aerial pursuits .
  9. This is old news, have you been hiding under a rock FD?
  10. Welcome Steve, I know you'll enjoy the aviation related topics covered here.

  12. We seem to be forgetting why we fly under the RAA banner in the first place. ( maximum fun, minimum regulation, minimum cost, minimum intervention by an overbearing big brother ie self regulation). We are loosing on all fronts !!. This bloke is the editor of our national magazine - the major conduit to the members and public.
  13. Sounds like a great weekend ! BPN - is camping under wing a possibility.
  14. What about a 1600 jab motor - ample power (60hp), and sounds like a real aircraft engine. Weight would be similar to 503 rotax etc. There is a niche market for these older engines in single seat 95.10 reg. aircraft.
  15. If he survived that he is very lucky !!. I presume he had a chute on. What was he thinking to try that ?.
  16. I don't think ASIC cards at any price will stop any terrorism attempt, they just are an unnecessary impost on the aviation community. Why isn't our RAA pilots certificate or PPL card sufficient identification to be airside when required?. ASIC cards are frog sh1t !! Sign the petition to get rid of them.
  17. Gazelle for me - they almost fly themselves.
  18. Got a bike license in 1976, used to ride CB Honda 750 till I had an altercation with a drunk who fell asleep while driving after an all night party. Multiple breaks - leg and arm made me rethink riding on the roads. Learned to fly (GA) in 1984, converted to RAA 1997.
  19. Is this a first for RAA ? I've never heard of ultralights being stolen before in Aus.
  20. Well done Dave Jacka and crew !! Awesome effort. Coincidentally my J230 rego is 24-5588 very similar to yours Dave, I hope the trip met all your expectations. Again well done.
  21. I think a stumbling block in the short term is working out who is going to pay for the approval - manufacturer, importer or hapless owner/s.
  22. A thousand apologies, my bad - I stand corrected, the gentleman I mentioned is an agent for Tecnam not the Eurofox.
  23. Andy, I do mean inflight adjustable - sorry for the confusion. Apparently the way forward to keep the aircraft flying is to either replace the prop with a fixed pitch type or re register in the Experimental category at a subsidised cost of $500.
  24. The silence from RAA is deafening !! In my previous post I mentioned Evector aircraft with variable pitch props have an issue with being legal. Another one for the list. It has to be asked how were these aircraft allowed on the register in the first place. Has someone misrepresented them on application or is there some other explanation. It would appear that the owners are being left to pick up the tab.
