  1. "Hi Guys. My name is John (Jlm82 are my intials, I probably should of mentioned that in my first post) Yes Sue I am learning with John. I use to live next door to him years ago when I was a kid and flew with him when he was getting his PPL. Small world. That is a Yak 52 from [/url]http://www.cqadventureflights.com.au . One of the most exhilarating experiences I have ever had. Well worth the money and the pilot Peter is very friendly as well. I have been flying mainly a sirrius and a foxbat for my training as well as a storm and texan. I love the sirrius and the foxbat is pretty cool as well (STOL). Can't wait for my next solo:oh yeah:Hopefully next weekend. " G'day John and hope all goes well with the flying. That Yak 52 is a nice aircraft it used to live in Toowoomba, and was based here for some time. It was imported from NZ and took some shots of the aircraft on its first flight on oz soil. Good times and great memories Cheers Scott
  2. Well hows that, I was wondering who was in the 170 with Matt, I was listening to the radio most of the day. In fact i think I was airside at one point when you were doing circuits. Next time your around come and say G'day if you have the time, I work in the office/building right next to Al's hangar. Did you get the chance to see the 170 at the back of the Hangar? I worked on that aircraft... sanding and polishing, sanding and polishing. And no doubt you would have checked out the new T-28A at Aerotec facility Matt is a good instructor. Actually we have a few really good instructors in Toowoomba Cheers
  3. G'day Spin Yeah it turned out to be pretty good considering the forecast for Sunday that we read on Saturday night still didn't paint all that great a picture. They were still saying possible showers and rain coming through later, so it was wake up on Sunday and see. This is the last shot I took on Sunday as the sun was setting on another FoF event.
  4. G'day rdarby and all rdarby, I recieved your comm and many thanks. Had the opportunity to have a good look through my shots and I am at pains to inform that the image of the Sportstar didn't work out. I usually ring off a couple of test shots to start the day and unfortunately the Sportstar was the first plane that flew past the lens and unfortunately they didn't come out that good. thankfully I did manage to get into the swing of the day.
  5. saw the update for saturday, not good, but hopefully Sunday will be better.
  6. G'day Spin Yeah, glass half full! I try to be optimist who's really a pesimist who masquerades as a realist......... now thats a sad attempt at humour isn't it Anyway back to the matter at hand, According to the "forcasts" for Caboolture/Redcliffe which I have been following on Weatherzone - Friday is predicted 70% chance of showers 1-5ml & Temp -22 Saturday is predicted 60% chance of showers increasing 10-20ml & Temp -22 Sunday is predicted 20% chance of showers <1ml & Temp - 24 And a UV index of High And the wind is predicted to be coming from ENE - Northerly during the event. And predicted to range form 4knts to 9knts both days so at least they are not predicting howling winds as has been the case as many who live along the SE QLD Coast would probably be very well aware. Cheers
  7. Well its almost upon us and the weather prediction doesn't look to bad. And looking forward to immersing myself into all things aviation. Cheers
  8. I work at an airfield that has RPT and we don't and will not be implementing screening because the aircraft is under the 20Ton limit and the fact of the matter is our airport will never suport an RPT aircraft larger that a DASH-8 300 aircraft anyhow due to RWY lenght and PCN (Pavement Concesion Number). I agree with Poteroo all RPT flights, coming from regional airports into a major centre like Sydney Brisbane Perth and Melbourne should be screened. And there are many in the Industry who I have talked to agree that DOIT (formerly DOTaRS) and OTS should review this a little closer. Yes it is going to be expensive especially for the smaller airports who may only have 2 or 3 RPT flights a week to implement this, and that is where Federal subsidies for the outer regional airports comes in and I believe and made aware there is a subsidy program in place to help regional airports to impliment their security screening equipment who are being serviced by Q400 and similar weight aircraft over the 20ton limit, before the June 2012 regulation comes into force. And the passengers, I know, will have a bit to say about it too. They'll kick up a bit of a stink and comment along the lines of "Why are you doing all this out here whos going to do anything out here anyway". Might be a fair comment but it certainly contributes to the safety of those passengers getting on board the aircraft. Oh and by the way if your into knitting your in luck as they just changed the rules on knitting needles. You can takle those on board a flight now and knit during the flight
  9. G'day windsor68 You are correct that if someone for what ever reason wanted to carry 2ltrs of Lighter fluid it would have to travel under freight with the appropriate procedures. In the recent Airport Security course (QLD)I went through this was one of the things that was highlighted by the instructor. And what we could not work out, is how the Federal government authorities (DOIT) were cracking down on items going onto a Passenger aircraft yet said it was Ok for a passenger under the current law was even allowed to take that on board the aircraft. And as you stated correctly no they would not be allowed to take it through security, I would think bells would ring with the security officer and seccondly the rules and regulations set down by the Terminal owners or those acting on behalf of the owner would state that items like that definitely would not be alowed on the aircraft even though the law states otherwise purely for the safety of the passengers. And I can assure you if I was the security officer in charge and found that on someone it would be impounded straight up or given the opportunity to get it to the destination via another means. But then there is the issue of Regional Airports who do not have airport screening. If the aircraft that provides the RPT service is under the 20ton weight limit, those passengers boarding that aircraft are not screened, Say passengers going on a Dah-8 100 or even 300. Then it becomes an issue for the airlines Agent who takes care of the baggage tagging and aircraft loading and unloading, big responsibility for those guys. Cheers
  10. G'day All I recently learnt in a course that under the air travel rules and regs, did you know that a person can legally take upto 2kgs of Zippo fluid (or the same fluid in cigartette lighters) and matches combined on board an aircraft. Where the rule that you can't take that on board comes under the rules and regs of the owners or operators of the terminal that which the product goes through where the operator can deny the product from coming in or if the Pilot is made aware he has the right to refuse the person access to the aircraft with the product. but under the current air law that person can legally take that on board a flight Go figure!!!
  11. have seen video of this incident a number of times and made a few observations and no. 1 is that the Mustang pilot did a great job of getting out of the situation and the Skyraider pilot did a great job getting back on the ground. A testament to the strength of the plane and pilot skill and all round not a pretty incident. Now granted I'm a student pilot but I know a number of guys who fly Warbirds regularly and have been in a number of Warbird formation flights. And as stated these are just observations, no blame to any particular party and as they say hindsight is a wonderful thing. I noted that when the Mustang pulled away he did not continue/complete is left hand turn. In the video I saw on "you tube " it showed a couple of the passes previous to the incident and I noted that when those aircraft pulled up and over they continued their bank and No.1aircraft continued around until they were in the down wind section of the curcuit in a tighter turn, basically completing their initial and pitch manouvere. In the incident fly past I observed that the Mustang pulled up and over but did not continue his turn and levelled out. Now that particular manouvere with the Middle lead aircraft pulling up and over, as I understand is what they call the "Lost Man". I counted a three second break between the Mustang and the Skyraider, in which some formations that is a Ok provided you maintian visual on the lead aircraft, If the Mustang had of continued the pitch and bank the Skyraider pilot should still have had visual contact and have maitained that visual through the manouevere, basically following the Mustang around. The pilot would have seen the Mustang go over the top and bank to the left, and that has been the case from what I have experianced from the back seat during Initial and pitch, or other bank/angle and turn manoueveres. Now the next thing I observed is that yes the Skyraider did indeed do a steeper left pitch and bank but also when the Mustang rolled out and for the Skyraider to lose visual and to catch up to the Mustang like it did so quickly to make contact, the Mustang at some point during that move would have most likely reduced airspeed, whether the pilot pulled back the power I'm only guessing there. But if both aircraft were maintining equal speed, and this is the thought among some of the pilots I chatted to, the Skyraider with the angle and bank that it was maintaining possibly could have turned inside the Mustang if it was continuing with the same speed, but that is more speculation/guessing than anything else as well. Now for bailing out of the move for the Skyraider pilot I don't know what he could have done, he would have realised that he was in a bad position but at the end of the day he had nowhere to go, he would not have had visual on the Mustang on his right hand side either, apart from radio contact but it would have happened really quick for the Skyraider pilot that it was over as quick as he realised what had happened. The other issue in this incident is having pilots flying a mixed formation with diferent aircraft types. Pilots have to be aware of the different handling characteristics and performance capabilities of the aircraft they are flying with. That is where practice, pratice, practice is essential. In no way am i saying these guys would not have been aware or even practiced there routine, no doubt they would have flown together probably many times over, but it is something you have to be aware of when formation flying with different aircraft types. And as I also am aware of and odserved there is no substitute for a thorough pre-flight Breifing, as some have already noted previously on this thread flying just metres apart is dangerous, but good to watch and awseome to be there in the aircraft flying close to other aircraft. As noted these were just my observations and notes from watching videos on the incident and my experiance as a rear seater during formation practices and spending time and being with Instructors who are well versed in formation flying. As the incident was unfortunate and a lovely aircraft was lost, it was a good result for safe return of the pilots and one aircraft. So could have been two aircraft. And again as they say hindsight is just a wonderful tool and sitting back watching in the comfort of a chair, its easy to critique, I would not to like to have been in that situation at all. Cheers Scott
  12. I have a couple of shots I have of Peter in various aircraft. One of these Peter got off me, the Lightwing shot. Sympathies to the family
  13. G'day Sara Not sure who bought it, The aircraft I believe has gone to Caboolture? There maybe someone who could confirm that. But I know that it was involved in a not too serious incident at Clifton post purchase. I believe it had to make a forced landing due powerplant issues in a paddock near the airfield but that is all i can tell you and hopefully someone else might be able to fill in the rest of the gaps.
  14. G'day to all Just wish to extend a thank you firstly to those folk who flew their aircraft in to support the event and to those who brought their Warbird, Vintage and classic aircraft to the event. It didn't matter what aircraft you came along in they all supported this years theme, from the vintage to todays Sports aircraft - "Wings and Wheels of Yeasteryear" Celebrating 100 years of Aviation and motoring on the Darling Downs. Which we had aviation history on show spanning over 70 years from Tiger Moths and Chipmunks to todays New generation Light sport aviation. Aircraft types that made the pilgrimage included CT-4A's, Antonov AN-2, Yak 52 & 18T, DH-84 Dragon, Cessna 195 & 180's & classic 152's, Replica Panther Jet, Vintage design Witman Tailwind. Add to this various GA and sport aircraft types including the ferrari of the skies the F.8L Falco which we had 2 on the field with Falco VH-LZF a famous machine for setting records of its type. Many took advantage of taking a flight in the Antonov AN-2, the "Recall" Boeing Stearman and heli-West provided two R-44's for joyflights and all were busy pretty much all day. In the static area there were 4 T-28 Trojans, 2 Harvards, 2 Chippies (+ 4 chippies fly in) Fiat G-59-4B (One of two airworthy examples in the world), ST-A Ryan, Winjeel, Nanchang, Yak 52, CT-4E and Pitts Specials Unfortunately current upgrade works to the runway, resulting in a shorter runway lenght for the event, did keep the bigger Warbirds from attending and flying during the event However, I cannot express my appreciation enough to all who supported this years event by bringing along their aerial treasures. Regards Scott
  15. I wish to update folk interested in the Warbird scene and fans of the sound-of-round that there is a North American T-28A being importerd into the country. The aircraft as we speak is just awaiting approvals to be exported fromthe US and will then be shipped over. It is a T-28 'A' model. Powerplant- Wright R-1300 800HP. The airframe is basically the same as the T-28B and D models but is approx 1 Ton lighter than its modified bigger brother the 'D' but is only approximately 10-15 knts slower in cruise. This particular aircraft has an interesting chequered history and will expand on that when the aircraft arrives with the history data. This arircraft will also be the only known flying T-28A model in the southern hemisphere. There are other T-28A's in the South. Hemisphere but as we can establish all are static museum exhibits, and the very first true unmodified 'A' model to fly in Aus, as most of the A models were converted to 'D' (T-28 D and AT-28D-5)models. The aircraft will be based in Toowoomba and we are very fortunate as we have currently got 4 T-28's based in Toowoomba 3 x D's 1 x B models and the 'A' model will make 5 of Type. Very Exciting stuff. Cheers Scott
  16. Hi all just wanting to let all know that the Project upgrade to the Toowoomba Aerodrome is progressing and to inform that if you or anyone else you my know who is an aircraft operator, does intend on using Toowoomba we do have a displaced threshhold in place. For TORA, TODA's and LDA's refer to the NOTAM in place. The project works are expected to be completed approx. Mid May 2011. For small GA and Rec aircraft the RWY 11/29 LDA and TORA is still reasonable length the Grass 06/24 ( 750M) is still servicable as well. Cheers Scott
  17. If all goes to plan us Toowoombaite's should be at Maryborough. Not sure exactly how many aircraft will have going up but the T-28 should be there, possibly 2 ,Winjeel and Nanchang should be available for flights and a Yak 52 there as well, all being good!
  18. And one for DD I located the shot I took of te Cirrus and a couple more that some may recognise :-)
  19. And a couple more Regards Scott
  20. Hi all I haven't had a good look through my images but here are a few happy snaps that I managed to get.
  21. Weatherzone paints an OK picture for the weekend over the downs Today (Sat.) they say we have a 40% chance of Storm activity of 1-5mm. and BOM says chance of possible shower activity Wind ESE @ 29km/hr /15knts early and staying around that for pretty much all weekend Sunday they say 30% chance of shower and Storm activity. But I guess the factor will be the cloud, will it hang ontop of the range with the moist easterly and a humidity of 87% early to 71% later in the day. That just screams fog and low cloud on the range! Scott
