  1. I think you are forgetting the Viking/Honda motor, something like $17000? landed (someone correct me please) Now called the Viking 110 alluding to the hp I believe. 100 now engines delivered. Haven't heard of any failures, yet....Looks just great if you can forgive Jan Eggenfella his previous mistakes?....Weights just spot on for the J230....who will be first?......
  2. I had my 0-200 crank ground and nitrided at Crankshaft Rebuilders in Mitcham Victoria. They know all about special radii too. Geoff
  3. What an event! I especially liked the Vampire chase 'plane
  4. The situation is exactly the same at Tyabb. A major road makes a T with the runway. You have to look out for trucks on your approach , especially for us flapless sorts...
  5. Have a look at FULLRIVER batteries. you certainly wont want bigger than the PC625 equivalent (starts my 0-200 comfortably) I bought one recently and used it to start my 4 litre V8 quite easily ($100) much to the amusement of the mechanics at Toyota
  6. The cable was $120 for a 150 foot roll. ( local company 7x19 gal cable) then the swages ( 3/4" x 1/8" copper) and the thimbles too from Aircraft Spruce. They were $25.00 plus 20 postage. The turnbuckles were $28 each ( need 6) then the cable clevises (6 too) at $11 each. ... I can borrow the swage tool. An aircraft company quoted me $110 per cable plus parts. Not cheap.
  7. I've had to cut a hole in the fabric of my Jodel about 8" square. Problems with changing perfectly good swages on perfectly good cables due to over-enthusiastic AWB. Anyway, I need a small quantity of Poly-Brush and Poly-Tack. ' bout a cup of each will do fine. Can anybody help?.....Minimum purchase from the shop is 2 quarts ! I don't mind buying it but it doesn't last long on the shelf. So I would probably throw most of it away. ( Or drop it of at the tip @ $30 per tin!) God, Australia pisses me off sometimes. I hear lots of retailers whinging about online trading ruining their businesses. I just had the Toyota garage check out my elderly friend's Lexus Ls 400, They want $900 to rebuild the alternator and $1600 for a new steering pump! I got the (new)alternator online from the US for $128 plus $40 post and the pump (rebuild) kit for $18.00 plus $8 postage also from the US. Sorry about that!.....................Go back to what you were doing before I interrupted you......
  8. I've been following the Viking site for some time. I have seen in print from Jan Eggenfeller that the engines do come from written off vehicles, but you can have a brand new one for about 1400 extra. Why would you bother?
  9. As soon as you do any welding it becomes very difficult to get any insurance. Just don't make mistakes!
  10. It's been changed a bit. It now reads "Cables that are older than 15 years" it's a little clearer......I pulled mine out cut them up and they are all perfect.... Thanks for nothing RAA...
  11. It wouldn't come up on google yesterday, just "page cannot be found" now its ok. Thanks
  12. I got the message wrong

  18. I think That I misinterpreted the entire message
  19. they are not nuts!...................... 1/4" cap head screws
  20. Hmmmm. The only way for the inlet manifold bolts to come out is if they were only finger tight in the first place ( we are talking about the alloy machined part with the six inlet tubes coming out of it aren't we?) And, If I remember, you can't get the centre rear one out without taking off the exhaust muffler cover first. The manifold halves will sit in place together as they have a couple of dowels ( or maybe just one?) to line them up and cannot fall off due to the exhaust cover. IF bolts like that are loctited and done up properly they will NEVER come loose by themselves. Someone just forgot. It can happen. ...........I don't see that taking off the top cover helps much unless you take off the air scoops as well. You can't see much at all. Geoff (L2)
  21. I am not being "nasty". Not at all..Where do you get that from? ................. I would LOVE to see Jabiru succeed beyond our wildest dreams, a Fantastic piece of kit that has some really unhappy shortcomings.... .. I will not use patriotism to condone an expensive product of inconsistant quality. .( I am an import but I've been here on and off since 1968, a lot longer than some of the blokes on this site have been alive) If it was Holden valves that were seizing or dropping in ect. It would be on "Today Tonight" before you could say HILLS HOIST. I don't knock a product because it's Australian, I'll rubbish it if it's rubbish! Not long ago I owned an Audi. what a bunch of rubbish that was....Was in the dealers workshop more than it was in my garage!....
  22. How true . Very clever man .....I like the earlier Micheal Moore Doco's " Sicko " and "Bowling for Colombine" better. Heavily biased but great entertainment. As a further inditement of American society there is some logic to the argument for allowing students to carry guns on campus. Maybe the mass murderer wont get as many shots off? The American society (and ours as well) is being ruined to a great extent by "No win no fee lawyers" .............I just read an American tale of a Petrol Can Manufacturer being sued out of business by people that used one of his cans to pour petrol onto fires and burned themselves sometimes to death...........After several multi million settlements goodbye to ALL petrol container manufacturers!........
  23. Don't you believe it.............. I'd LOVE a good reliable Jabiru 3300 instead of the overweight ancient 0-200 anchor I fly behind. Unfortunately no such thing exists . I saw on the VIKING website that not only have they got 80 ! orders for delivery in October 2012 @ $16,000 a pop (firewall forward package) but one is going into a Jabiru 430. smart bloke.
  24. Ahhh I was working with Guzzi in 1978..with the endurance racing team..... That wear at the top of the nigasil (guzzi patent) bore was normal only after 100,000kms + with paper filters or 5000kms running with K&N filters or similar, The bottom end would last with a well maintained motor over 250,000kms ( UNLESS you had the 850T that had NO filteration) where 5000kms would see you with a worn out crank! The crud would fill the cavity in the crank big end journal and then spill into the big end bearings, goodbye crank.....
  25. I dont think there is a snowball's chance in hell of having nikasil/alloy barrels without thru' bolts. If chrome moly barrels crack and break what chance has alloy? They (barrels) would have to be so thick as to make any extra heat loss gained from having alloy barrels a negative....Going to thru bolts ( studs in c/case through to head) whilst absolutely bullet proof would make a complete redesign necessary. It's not going to happen......As an aside..... I take umbridge at the comment by KEENAVIATOR .( 6 above this) it's derogat0ry and uncalled for, a response I would expect, from someone with their head firmly in the sand
