  1. It's the pilot's fault...he shouldn't have stuck his nose in! Kaz
  2. Icom has its own repair facility and they looked after me. Kaz
  3. Apparently the long strip is temporarily shortened from 1350 down to 850 due taxiway works. YLIL is on the heavy clay/loams that characterise the Valley. They get greasy when wet and almost bottomless when really wet. It has brought more than one intrepid flyer to grief. Kaz
  4. Where do folks suggest I purchase a couple of those collapsible 20L containers please? Are they ok with avgas? Kaz
  5. Police should be tracking phone and iPad through SIM cards if still fitted. Kaz
  6. Just out of the adjacent panel shop...kaz
  7. This is not a comment on the particular matters under investigation. For the described offence to apply, the person must first "park" the aircraft. I can find no definition of "park" in the CASR but it seems to me that if the pilot is sitting in the aircraft preparatory to starting the engine the pilot is probably not in contravention. Kaz
  8. A great read... https://www.amazon.com/Stringbag-Fairey-Swordfish-at-War/dp/1844151301
  9. I meNt to say "thanks" Phil for the post. I've got a great book written by a Stringbag pilot somewhere in my study and it's a terrific read of survival in the face of amazing odds. The Taranto raid was magnificent! This gives a nice little story on the old girl Fairey Swordfish Kaz
  10. The stringbag was a most amazing aeroplane so-called because of the many flying wires, landing wires and goodness knows what else holding it all together. The media article mentions a wind of 70-80 mph which is almost the aircrafts cruising speed! This was just one of many amazingly dangerous, incredibly brave and no doubt foolhardy attacks carried out by the Fleet Air Arm Swordfish pilots across the Channel, into Biscayne and the North Sea, and around the Mediterranean. To increase their range, some Boffin designed an auxiliary tank that looked a bit like a huge tin cigar and which was inserted standing up in the rear cockpit which was shared by the navigator/gunner. As well as torpedos, they carried bombs and mines, and even flares and wrote a very special place for themselves in history in the process. Kaz
  11. Many more sightings of the Min Min Light have followed since these initial few, starting the legend of the mysterious lights that has never been solved. I saw the Min Min lights in the semi-arid country of the Upper Gascoyne and it made me a bit nervy all Lone in a 4WD a long way from anyone. But I packed death one night when this big red sucker-shaped light began to follow me down the road another night. Took about 10 minutes and 10 years off my life to realise it was Mars rising! Kaz
  12. And Austers!
  13. Who'll be last To clean the bath And take the time To remove the rime?
  14. I suppose I should have told you a little more about the pilot/builder's capabilities...hes certainly no drip and didn't come down in the last shower. Kaz
  15. [No message]
  16. I guess Jambo Nkosi Sikelel' iAfrika is a little out of place in Darlington apart from the mix of dialects? TV news this morning regarding serious drought in SA and Cape Town has water only until April. Horrible predicament. Can't help you with flying opportunities close to inner Sydney but I'm sure some of the guys from up there will assist. RAAUs is relatively inexpensive way of getting back into the scene and you can upgrade easily to PPL standard again if you choose a school that does both. Good luck Kaz
  17. Pierre Costerman's autobiography, The Big Show. Geoffrey (Boy) Wellum's autobiography, First Light. Geoffrey only passed last year. I have read and reread both of these many times and they still inspire and excite me. I have many other on military aviation in both Wars, but these two are my favourites. Kaz
  18. Report to ACORN | Australian Cybercrime Online Reporting Network And the AFP. Kaz
  19. Very sad event. Sandra was a very active pilot and AWPA member who will be sadly missed by many. RIP. Kaz
  20. Yes.
  21. Secure Air (Nathan Muller) offers RAAus, RPL, PPL and CPL training at Shepparton. Kaz
  22. You will save the cost of your membership in just 15 or so landings at places that charge landing fees. Good on RAAUS holding firm on non-disclosure of members personal information. Kaz
  23. Aircraft register search | Civil Aviation Safety Authority I want a ride in it! Kaz
