  1. Nice! Kaz
  2. Steele's Hill/Bryarty's Hill at Coldstream pointing towards the Glenburn Gap so you can see if the gap is open. Kaz
  3. But I can still drive a tandem steer, bogie drive cement mixer without a security check. Kaz
  4. Best wishes to all you FNQ folk...kaz
  5. I bought one from Ian and it was very reasonably priced...can't remember details but make sure you ask him for a price. Kaz
  6. I feel somewhat conflicted by a process that allows civil proceedings to run after a criminal case has been abandoned AND the process is one that results in quasi criminal penalties. It seems a lot like double jepordy to me. Kaz
  7. AAT appeals go to the Federal Court, not a State Supreme Court, and they can only consider an error of law, not fact. Kaz
  8. Looks magnificent Ian. I missed the AAAA weekend unfortunately. Had a huge wedding to attend in Melbourne. Hope I'm still alive for next year's wherever it is. Kind regards Kaz
  9. I've got friends who live on the Bogan River and none of them has two heads
  10. It sure is, Turbs. But you know how it is...people forget! If they go ahead it will probably see the closing of Tooradin and might impact quite severely on Tyabb, too. I think they need to start looking outside the square and re-launch Mangalore as Melbourne's alternative airport. Connect it to the city with a very fast train and get the benefit of the much better weather north of the Divide. Put it in farm land rather than stuffing up the green wedge. Alternatively, if they are going to compulsorily acquire land for this, then take it off the Fox and build put Avalon. If the Feds would cooperate, they could close Moorabbin and transfer GA to PCK...but the Western Suburbs have Already frightened Mr Andrews so I guess that's out.
  11. There is also a private strip a little to the NNE of Tooradin Kaz
  12. His various briefs have managed to get several of the charges, including those related to alcohol consumption withdrawn. The hamburger has shrunk to a weeny without sauce. It will be interesting to see the magistrates' sentence when finally handed down. Kaz
  13. Interesting. Thanks corvairkr!
  14. So what will you do above 5000'? If this happens, I suggest that you won't get a word in edge ways at all the airfields that use 126.7 as their CTAF frequency. Kaz
  15. A bit more Mary Ellis was a Spitfire pilot in WW2. At 98, she still flies The book ar A Spitfire Girl Enjoy...kaz Mary is now 100!
  16. I'm not the only confused person flying aeroplanes, then? Kaz
  17. i flew up to Yarrawonga today to see how Peter was after his prang at the airfield a week ago. Broken foot with nuts and bolts but both he and Anne were quite cheery. Drifted into a fence and turned turtle at touchdown in a crosswind. Anne will now be at Avalon by herself and Peter will have to work out ablutions and toilet requirements at home alone. The fence is being removed! Kaz
  18. Police were called because tide was coming in. Kaz
  19. Enough people there to pick it up and carry it above high water. Kaz
  20. It was my understanding that the did object but that the developer went ahead anyway because Council has no authority over Crown land. Commonwealth Department of Infrastructure was the responsible authority, I believe. Kaz
  21. Excellent Alf! The article states: "The male pilot was coming into the base leg of his landing and noticed the power on the engine was dropping, he advanced the throttle and ended up with no power," Sgt Sinclair said. "The plane was at about 800 to 900 feet when the incident occurred. He looked for a safe area to land where he landed about one and a half kilometresfrom the airport on private property." If this is correct, it would seem that the pilot was flying 747 circuits because he should have been able to glide to the runway. There is a lot to be said for tight circuits and glide approaches in small aeroplanes, rather than the current practice of dragging them in nearly flat fro miles out. Kaz
  22. AWPA will be there and they have arranged a bus from SWH. Unfortunately, I will miss both Lake Boga and the AAAA flyin at Echuca. I am attending a friend's wedding which is a Hindu ceremony over 3 days! Kaz
  23. This very sad accident will affect many more people than just those directly involved. The encroachment on the airport by non-aviation development is criminal in my view. And it's occurring at all secondary and many regional airports. Have a look at YMEN on Google Earth if you don't fly in there, and you will see the problem for anyone taking off to the south. Standby for an "inquiry" and the closure of Essendon. Kaz
  24. Both magnificent heros, naremman, and well worthy of recognition in a broader discussion. Al Deere was a NZer who flew Spitfires and whose exploits kept morale high amongst his countrymen in dire circumstances. Bluey, apart from having been captain of Melbourne FC, broke a few Spitfires in England after the Battle and demolished a number of Japanese aircraft in a P40 flying out of Gurney airfield in Eastern NG. His squadron and a small number of Australian and American ground troops turned back the Japanese advance for the first time since the beginning of the war. The P40s under his command did so many sorties and fired so many rounds through the .50s that the bores were smoothed of rifling. Kaz
  25. Finally, the Anzacs in the RAF carried a lot more than their weight. 35% of the Australians were killed, one of the highest rates of any nationality. Fighter Command's loss rate overall was 18% and the high Aussie losses are attributed to their frontline placements and extended tours. "The Australian aces, Hughes, Millington, Mayers, Curchin, Cock and Hilary accounted for 60% of Australian claims and were characterised by their aggressive willingness to engage, marksmanship and a superior sense of their three-dimensional combat environment" (Adam Claasen in Dogfight:The Battle of Britain). Only Hughes and Hilary flew Spits, the others Hurricanes. "Although Anzacs made up only approximTely 5% of Fighter Comman, they supplied nearly one-third of the top ten aces...between them, Hughes (Aust) and Carbury and Gray (NZ) took out 50 enemy machines in just 4 months."
