  1. I wrote to the minister a while ago and got a response which seems to confirm the point that an airport can be security controlled at certain times and not others. While I don't have the letter any more I did post on the other forum Parallels H-Sphere
  2. To be honest I was a feeling it before the aeros !! Opening the canopy was the solution but not sure when you can have it open or not - we closed it again for aeros and for circuits. I have not done any aeros for years - was good to do some again although we only did 10 minutes or so as I was still not 100%. Maybe I got used to it as when we returned to do circuits I didn't notice it at all. I certainly had a big grin on anyway - 360 supercharged horses certainly get you off the ground fast.
  3. I had the opportunity to do some flying in a Yak 52 last Sunday and really enjoyed it - takeoff performance is exciting and it handles beautifully. One thing that got to me a bit was the fumes in the cockpit. Has anyone else flown one of these and is it typical of them ? Made me a bit queasy until I cracked open the canopy a bit to get some fresh air.
  4. I did a night flight last night and cancelled my SAR on the ground at Camden with Sydney Radar (124.55) - no issues. The flightwatch frequency for the area is listed on the maps as 121.1 - have used that on occasion as well. I was going to transfer to the Flightwatch frequency to do it but heard another aircraft cancelling on Sydney radar with no issues so did the same. BTW - Was an interesting flight - 55-60 knot ground speed on the way to Goulburn and 175 knots on the way back !! Dead smooth at 6500/7500 ft !
  5. There is one on the updated Aviation Trader website for sale - says it is RAA registered as single seat only as per your post
  6. You are right - read the wrong line
  7. Just looked at the Vans website - the RV6 is 1600 lbs MTOW (about 726 KG) with a stall speed of 49mph (43 kts) and the RV7 is 1800 lbs (817 KG) and 51mph (45 kts)
  8. Its not a bad motto for aviation !! Anyway I thought you were sort of now ?
  9. Interesting question - lost of the formation teams were not there - except the two top teams In Australia/NZ We came third but was quite close.
  10. However, the thought of an RV6, 7 or 8 is worth any expense !! They are really impressive machines.
  11. Rick, we went in the Australian Light Aircraft Championships there - they had a number of different events including the formation flying. Others included spot landing, forced landing, streamer cutting and aerobatics. The unfortunate thing was that the rules only allowed VH registered aircraft to participate - I raised that with one of the officials - may be changed for next years event (in WA). Hope so - more the merrier !!
  12. Got these photos sent to me from our formation flight at Taree - thought people may be interested.
  13. An unbiased comment of course !!
  14. Ferret, you can also download individual airfield charts, etc from the airservices website http://www.airservicesaustralia.com/publications/
  15. Wow - you say it was line astern landing - close formation ? He was very lucky. I have been caught in wake turbulence in form landings and its not nice.
  16. Any news on this happening ? A few of us just went in the comps up at Taree and they are all keen to do more of it. I think you would get some flying over from Camden if you made it open to outsiders !!
  17. Darren, the weird thing about the rego was that is was obviously removed - and the thing was parked in the middle of a busy airport - I would have thought if they wanted to hide it they would have landed in a paddock or something.
  18. I was at Taree during the week. The helicopter was sitting there with police crawling all over it for fingerprints, etc The really weird things were : 1. It was beautifully parked 2. It had been nicely prepared for sitting overnight (rotor tie downs fitted, etc) 3. The rego had been removed 4. It was apparently flown there at night (take a bit of skill I think ?) Something a bit fishy I think.
  19. Royal Federation of Aero Clubs
  20. I had not noticed that in the rules - seems odd these days when aero clubs have bot GA and RA aircraft !
  21. Next week the RFACA is holding its annual Australian Light Aircraft Championships at Taree. We are entering a team after many years absence. Anyone else on the forums going ? Would be good to catch up. Program has practice on Thursday and the events being held Friday and Saturday.
  22. That is great - there are certainly some interesting aircraft there. I remember when it was at the airfield they used to ground run the Sea Fury !!
  23. Its definitely a problem - I went there 20 something years ago and have not yet escaped !! In fact one of the reasons we moved out to Wollondilly Shire was to be closer to Camden.
  24. I knew John as well, instructed with us for years - great bloke.
  25. And don't forget the wonderful formations !!
