That would be ideal is rather spend 2k on it and throw 6k of parts on it, it makes it more affordable for me but how many drifters come up for that price? Not many :(

Hey forum: After a breakl from aviation (year 12 ) i have come back with renewed ambitions, and proritiesm, just wondering in summary what goes in to becoming an L2? where do you start, what are the pre requisits and ect? cheers all

Hey Tex yer i thought it might be that way,which is unfortunate for me... as im in WA so there are very few drifters around these parts and even pewer people that know the ins and outs of the drifter... :crying:real bugger... an internet based group would be great, would really help me mate.. would be great to have a forum, yer its a bit disapoionting for me as there are very few drifters in WA andeven fewer willing to help out young guys (young and dumb) haha Based in the WILD WEST mate

THIS IS WHAT I WANT!! spot on mate, some thing that needs rebuilding.. it might cost more but youknow the aircraft backwards and i find builind and fixing stuff just as fun as flying it.. and 6-8 grand is something i can do now, as apose tosaving another..... ammount.

WOW... these things generate interest. haha Year 12.... need i say no more, im studying 5 TEE subjects and trying to get into uni from an Ag school (dumbest move in my life so far) to be honest i think id rather a SB model (despite cost), just through personal opinion and preference but with that said i dont think my pocket extends deep enough for discretion BUT.... im going to work all summer and hope to "invest " in one early next year... its a love it or hate it thing really but i think its the adventure in me there just such a great aircraft, im really passionate about them, i just want one!! contacts? um where do i start Tex? i think this might be my sticking point...

Hey forum long time no posts, any way... im really keen on getting a drifter, i love the look of them and they suit my location/facilities... im also a keen to do some work on it and spend some time in the shed... so with this in mind how much should i aim to save?... are there any drifters that have being shed ridden and need TLC around? thanks guys

the wongan hills air strip has recently being sealed for RFDS aircraft, the council organizes a few drag races per year in which nearly any one can enter they rekon it reduces the ammount of hooning that happens on the roads around the shire, there normaly a bug shin dig and a heap of fun some one dose keep an eye on radios and if there is an aircraft inbound they have no fuss with clearing the strip for it to land but since most of the time its at night its not really an issue... i cant see it being an issue if managed properly

im all for making your own notes get a knee board and an exercise book and make small dot points all the way through and then that night expand on them from what you remember draw diagrams ect because you physicaly doing it you retain it better like what you did/do at school :D... but also make use of all and any information you can find study it and again make your own notes on it :D

thanks for all the info guys its a huge help and i will definetly be working hard i plan on going for an interview at the end of year 11 (this year) with my marks and try to gauge the probability and chances of me being accepted if not i will have to go back and do mature age schooling but im hoping that my leadership activities and awards like the gold duke award and my role as an air force cadet warrent officer will be a posotive influence and aid my lower academic subjects as i have only done 2c/d math and 2a/b english thanks for the input guys cheers CK

cheers for the response guys.... would doing a year of AME work in the commercial sector help? yeh iv being told the process is very very competative.... iv got 2 C/D math and year 10 Science im thinking but considering doing external studies in physics. im not to keen to go for my YOU day yet because i dont want to start the application procces and i dont think my academic side is up to standard but i do have numerous questions mainly regarding the standards required and what the officer selection bord and recruitment officers are looking for as the website is inconslusive on this

OK so its being my ambition for a long time since i was about 4 to fly Aircraft for the ADF preferable jets or choppers for the army know im 16 i plan on going for my Y.O.U session to get a better idea of what will give me the "edge" in selection, iv gotten as much info as i can from the websites and phaphletts they hand out but if any one on this forum is ex-military pilot or has any ideas as to what they look for or what makes a perfect pilot candidate please let me know either post or if its a bit longer or you want to know specifics PM me :D any help would be appreciated Cheers all CK

the ELA is an awsome machine haha and yes murry did seem to be an exceptional pilot lol i can safly say my view has changed and what gyro with checkered flag on its tail was doing the mustering display on the open day was crazy alsomst fun lol ha ha if your drifter is feeling left out when im qualified i will gladly keep the cobwebs out and keep her happy and pay for fuel i use :D -
well im more than happy to wash planes i love being around them so i have no issues with washing em i just cant wait to get into it, yeh im pritty keen to get onto tail dragges quick but i also want to be compitent on both thanks for the info david im going to get the teext books very soon :D its awsome to finaly have some way forward FYI shaun i will gladly wash the drifter aswell :D

wow i thought this thread had gone dead Glad it hasent though because after many disscussions with my mate from bindoon abandoned he managed after a few rides to get me hooked on drifters they say you either love em or you dont the best thing is there probly one of the cheapest A/C to run which for a first plane fits the bill the only hurdle i cant get over is how do you cough up 10-25k straight esspcialy for the younger guys like my self it makes owning our own aircraft out of reach for a fair few years? awsome show it did get a little slow in some places but very interesting its amazing that someone could survive all of that but then again i guess its possible :D after all she was very fit requiring which is probly what saved her

i dont know much about this sorta stuff but the first place o would try would be your every day upolster? they could probly point you in the wright direction or try Jab? they might know? hope that helps :D
