  1. No interest for me at all. I can see how it would be of interest to many people though. The only lakes around where I fly are dried out salt lakes!! Pud
  2. Hehehehe Bob, now don't go putting ideas into Farri's head like that - I'm sure he's got plenty of ideas all his own. I'm not real good on a boat either - berley boy they call me:bounce: Pud
  3. The Superlight Club of WA based at the Bindoon Abandoned Airfield are having an event to commemorate the Battle of Britain. This will be held on the weekend of 15-16 September 2012. Please view the attached file for details. Pud
  4. Well it's in the Drifter section guys!! And in that case... definitely can use an anglegrinder:roflmao: Pud
  5. This is the latest from Gavin on Westfly. I have also posted this in the "Events" calendar. Dear members, This is just a quick note to put you all in the picture. WESTFLY – WA’s own state RA-AUS fly in is now confirmed to be on for the long weekend 29 Sep to 1 Oct 2012. Whitegum Farm has kindly offered their facilities for the event and a website has been created at www.westfly.com.au it will shortly also be on the RA-AUS website as well. The webpage is only in its infancy today but will expand as we get closer to the event. If any of you know of any organisation that would wish to display at our event could you please refer them to me? We are not charging for any displays onfield for the weekend. We will be also able to offer an opportunity for aviation oriented businesses, unable to be onfield, to have their advertising displayed both on field and on the website for a nominal fee. The important part of the event though is to have as many recreational aviators attend during the event. Onfield camping is encouraged and there is heaps of parking for aircraft, cars and caravans etc. You will see from the website that the available runways are very capable of accepting any aircraft flown by recreational aviators of all codes, so if you have mates who fly anything at all then they are all very welcome to attend. This is intended to be a coming together of all flyers. It would be great to see everything that flies all together for this. We would even welcome those crazy people who leap out of perfectly good aeroplanes. As this is an inaugural event we would happily accept any suggestions for activities during the weekend. We have a band booked for one night. Food and drinks will also be available on field. More details will be added to the website for this and all other matters as time progresses. I hope that I get to see as many of our flyers as possible during the weekend. Kind regards Gavin Thobaven WA Representative – Board Member Recreational Aviation Australia
  6. Found a damaged cable bracing the tail empennage - blood on the finger hurt a bit but maybe not as much as might have been if the cable had let go at the wrong time. Fitted a new one, job done and I can sleep easy.... until next time when I find something. Pud
  7. Start with a single forum Ian and add more later if the demand is there. A lot of us got started in, and fostered aviation with models. It would add another dimension here for people so interested. Pud
  8. That's what fishing is all about!! A fishing trip - you'll have a couple of guys grovelling at your feet if that comes off Frank:beg: Pud
  9. G'day Frank, I'll be in touch a couple of weeks before we head off. A couple of guys in the group are mad keen fishermen so expect your brain to be picked clean for good fishing spots!!! Pud
  10. That's what I like, and is so valuable about these forums; you can get quality information (sure you gotta sieve some chaff out) to help make educated/knowledgeable decisions. Great stuff. Pud
  11. I was wondering the other day where you had got to Frank, 'cos I hadn't seen you on here for a while. So I checked out your profile and you'd been on Friday which was only a day or 2 before. So that was alright then!! Not long and we will be heading your way come August Frank. Hopefully the weather will be 'youbeaut' in sunny North QLD Pud
  12. Come to think of it... We are surrounded by a lake - go in any direction long enough and you'll come to it! Pud
  13. Hang on that lake has another lake close by to the west???? My chart doesn't show that!!!! Pud
  14. You beauty Parks Flyer, and what a story! Great photos too. It's great getting a long held dream done I reckon, and I especially like yours:clap: Pud
  15. Good onya Col. I can't vote for you but you have my support anyway. When you get in I'll be observing with keen interest how you go. Pud
  16. I reckon this would be worth a ride Pud
  17. Yep, read it, and found it an entertaining read. Wouldn't want to make a practise of some of the actions described in the book though. Pud
  18. I thought I would chip in here boink, with my thoughts on cruising in a Thruster. I have a T500 with a Rotax 582 2-stroke engine. The Thrusters, generally, are not a comfortable aircraft to be sitting in for any length of time - say 2 hours absolute maximum between breaks; you'll be landing to refuel anyway after 2 hours or so. And at a cruise speed of 50 - 55kts you will be doing some long constant hours in the saddle if you need to traverse this continent from West to East - just reading between the lines in your post and assuming stuff here, so don't shoot me if my assumptions are wrong eh. Also, I expect it will take more than a day or 2 to familiarise yourself with flying a Thruster - completely different to the Gazelle, let me tell you!! I really like flying the Thruster, and intend doing a few longer flights, but they are not really a cruising machine - more a fun fly machine. I reckon you would be better to 'trailer' a Thruster for a coupla thousand kilometres, especially if you only have very low hours on type. Anyway, I hope this helps. Pud PS. It would be a great adventure to fly a T500 across Australia..... Hmmm, I'll have to think about that!!
  19. I'm hearing you Don, having the starboard wing lift on me in very similar conditions only a couple of weeks ago. Managed to get it down with no dramas in the end. Pud
  20. Well at least I can read about it in the magazine now - it arrived today!! Pud
  21. Lookin' gooood win Pud PS. Anyone else out there with photos of Rec Flying headsets - I'm not trying to hijack this thread, just thought it would be interesting.
  22. I'll send you a PM (Private Message) from the forums here Geoff. I'm glad you found my story interesting:cheezy grin: Sounds like you have long time history with the Thrusters. 250232 was the first T500 eh? 250235 sits in a hangar at Northam and is owned by Steve Vette - you may know him. He is a member here as well. I did my Thruster training in 250235. Anyway, bit busy now, so I'll talk to you later. Pud
  23. Good stuff flyerme, I notice you have key start - fancy eh? And doors you softee - what are the door frames made of? Pud
  24. You'd have to research those runs very well - imagine flying down a ravine to a dead end!! Pud
  25. I said the 'F' word on the 3rd turn back at 6minutes 40 seconds. 45 degree angle of bank and the stall warning bleeting madly - not for this little black duck I can tell you. Pud
