  1. G'day Bacon, I suppose my T500 Thruster with no doors qualifies as an open cockpit, albeit with a fair bit of protecting from the wind:super hero: I have a Vertex Standard VXA 300 radio connected to a Pilot Avionics PA 200 intercom. I plug the Recreational Flying 250 headsets into the intercom - works a treat with everything powered from its own internal batteries. The radio has 18 hours between charges and I've replaced the intercom battery once in 25 hours of flying. The antenna is mounted halfway back towards the empennage on the fuselage boom. Everything except the antenna was purchased from the shop here. I'm happy with the setup, can certainly receive transmissions from a long way away - about 130 nm so far. Not sure about how far the radio will transmit though. Pud
  2. Just did a google search for aircraft metals and came up with this in Australia. http://www.airportmetals.com/stocklist.htm Click on the pdf download icon below the text and download the "Aluninium Tube" document - it has airfoil section stock. Pud
  3. One of the reasons I wanted to see photos was to see what section was used - round tube or airfoil, plus I'm always up for looking at airplane photos:smile: Nice looking aircraft but no tailwheel means it fails my test!! I know the airfoil aluminium section is still available but I think you have to source it from the US. I'll see what I can find out. Another option would be to use a round tube section and have a light weight (plastic or fibreglass) section made up to cover the round tube. There is no way I would entertain the idea of a repair in such an important structural member. I don't have any qualifications in aeronautical engineering but something tells me not to risk it. Pud
  4. Have you got any photos you can post to the forum Kyle? Pud
  5. Baslards!!! Pud
  6. You must have had an "All nighter" the last time I saw you:roflmao: Pud
  7. Hmmm, brings me back to thinking about a cold seizure. Not sure how much correct lubrication mixtures play in a cold seizure scenario. Anyone know? On a side issue skyfox1, what did you use to sync your carbies? I've just this minute come back from purchasing enough clear tube to make a manometer to sync my carbies. Pud
  8. What gliding club are you with Hugh? Pud
  9. Was thinking the same thing myself Tim. Pud
  10. I just use a stock standard suction mount attached to the polycarbonate fuel tank viewer between the seats in my T500. It has the standard screw fitting that most cameras have and seems to work well enough - wouldn't use it externally though. When I did position the camera out on the wing strut I just taped it on with insulation tap - pretty rough and ready but it worked well enough. If I was to get serious I would look at something like what your link shows. Pud
  11. I use Castrol Active 2T and reckon it's an excellent oil. Tell me though; After just changing to Active 2T and having the engine nip up, will you continue to use Active 2T? Pud
  12. Have you worked out what caused the problem skyfox1? Cold seizure, lean fuel mix? Pud
  13. Good luck Maj and Win, I fully expect you will have an absolutely fantastic time that will be the source of stories and memories for a long time to come. I want photos when you are finished this adventure!! Pud
  14. Welcome Hugh. I'm sure you will have fun here. I'm also in OSH, in the home building industry, although not in such a detailed way as you. Pud
  15. Yes. I guess there would also need to be some restrictions on length - can't see anyone wanting to read a novel:coffee: Pud
  16. Reading the thread "Story of the Month" regarding the Sports Pilots article got me thinking... Would there be interest in having a similar feature here in Aircraft Pilots where members contribute stories with recognition of the "Story of the Month being awarded to the best story as judged by ??? What do you think Ian, would it contribute to the forums, and be of value? Pud
  17. No worries Steve, we'll catch up soon. Pud
  18. I'm very pleased for you Jake. All the best and happy flying. Pud
  19. Goodonya XAIRVTW and congratulations. It feels bloody good eh? Pud
  20. I called into the airfield around 10am Saturday Steve, had a walk around but nobody there - even Graeme King was absent. Has he gone to the Eastern States for his visit yet? I won't be there Sunday as we have an appointment Sunday morning at a restaurant for breakfast:smile: Have fun, Pud
  21. I just about know your place as well as my own Frank:roflmao: Pud
  22. Congratulations on the new Grandson Steve, another flying student eh? Pud
  23. G'day Steve, Welcome back to the forums here, I've been keeping a lookout here for you under your other member name but now I know who you are:wink: That would be my T500 we rebuilt, and it's flying beautifully too! Poll and I flew around for an hour or so last Sunday, and I ended up doing 2hrs+ before a few rain showers saw us back in the hangar. I'm looking forward to picking you up when we can arrange a trip to North Gabbin for your inspection and test flight in Poll's Gemini. It will be good to see it in the air after all the work that you and Poll have done on it too. I'll be in Northam on Saturday and will most likely visit the airfield to see who's around, hopefully I'll catch up with you there. Cheers Steve, Pud
  24. No, but you can see where they have been!! Pud
