  1. Check with Ken Watt at Bond Springs, just north of Alice Springs. Alice Springs Airport is in controlled airspace and you will need both a CASA Licence and an ASIC. Ken's contact is on this link NT - RAAus
  2. "Perfectly safe" or the fact that the trucking industry has the government by the short and curlies so that Less freight goes by rail?
  3. Why should rag and tube pay less? What do they use less off, both individually and as a group. Just because they are lighter doesn't mean that RAA doesn't spend less time on them either individually or as a class. Can you offer up some stats?
  4. I suspect that they have confused the similarity and differences between L2 and L4. A current L4 is an L2 with additional Amateur built inspection authorities. I think the RAA letter needs a fact check against the Tech Manual.
  5. Fred, it was going down the tubes before incorporation. We had lots of money and property but not much organisational and professional acumen. CASA and a large chunk of the membership were not impressed.
  6. And you put up the picture that shows this grief?
  7. We could go back to 300kg and stay inside the fence.
  8. Ah! So you were getting 100 Gigabytes of data, now you are getting 1000 Gigabytes of data. What is the quoted and actual speed and latency as measured by Speed test?
  9. 1000G?
  10. NBN is not cutting the Foxtel cable. The OPTUS Cable is at end of life and unfit for purpose. The majority of service will be by fibre at least part of the way and then ADSL. If you don't insist on multiple streams of hi Def movies the service should be adequate for the vast majority of users. If you are coming up to a transition to NBN you will have a huge array of providers. In the current setup there are lies, lies and lies from the vendor's about speed and capacity all attempting to get you into their bed. Be prepared to swap vendors and maybe, initially, take short term contracts. Not all vendors will provide high capacity interconnected and will slow down as they add more gullible subscribers and they start downloading multiple streams of hihdef porn.
  11. What, why would NBN refuse to translate an existing internet user? Unless you choose to live in the middle of the Simpson Desert at the end of 50 km single wire.
  12. You have to careful quoting inflation as there are huge variability depending on which segment you are in. If you are on a pension based on CPI you will be behind the ball on medical costs. If you are in business or in trouble with the law then increases in government charges or paying legal fees will make you choke. If you focus on CPI rather than service you will serve no-one. The only thing coming down in price is ice.
  13. Thanks for this. Interesting. I had no trouble getting a RAMPC while on tablets but lost it when I started on insulin. Getting my HbA1c to between 6.5 and 8.0 for the Class 2 was a bit of a struggle as it is a lagging indicator and the apple pie takes a month or two to show up. So does knocking off food, weight and doing more exercise. I wish the aviation and diving endocrinologists would get their rules aligned.

  15. You are flying along (singing a cowboy song) at 1000' ago. How do you know you are in the circuit area of an unpublished airstrip? In the Sydney Basin the vast majority of radio traffic is on YSBK, YSCN or YSSY. The other allocated CTAF is YWBN but you wouldn't want to do a Mayday on that frequency because it is very quiet, especially on weekdays. There are a number of unmarked private strips but I wouldn't have a clue where they are. This proposal means that, for safety, one shouldn't fly below 1500' AGL since you will never, ever, know what is lurking below.
  16. The non-insulin diabetes standard for RAMPC is a no to "Does the patient have end-organ complications that may affect driving, as per the Austroads publication, or has the patient had a recent ‘severe hypoglycaemic event’?". AVMED don't get involved except to, maybe, check out the paperwork for defects. Insulin controlled diabetes is a no-no for RAMPC. (Drank the juice, got the T-shirt). Provided your insulin controlled diabetes is well managed you can get a class 2 Medical but probably not a Basic Class 2 as that is based on Ausroads commercial standards.
  17. Hi Turbs, can you point me to where I can access this info - the RAA Website is doing my head in. Cheers.
  18. Does anyone have the stats on aircraft and hours so we can work out who/what are the various interest populations in RAA.
  19. What mistakes? The CFIs still run the joint.
  20. Take care - they might close all airports - in the interests of safety.

  23. "Random and Primitive"? Any training and experience adds value to your skillset - look upon the RPL (or PPL) flight review as an opportunity. I have been to the UK a couple of times and the microlights have very low MTOW so I got my jollies with a TIF in a warrior and C172. My next trip will be a trip along Hadrians Wall, also as a TIF. Sometimes getting a solo flight is just too much paperwork - I also have a PPL and Class 2.
  24. This limited access only applies to Training aircraft owned by an FTF and not your own or your mates.
  25. A small step on the right direction but still requires a GA medical. A lot of the restrictions can be bypassed by getting an RPL. Maybe that is what CASA wants. Congratulations to RAA for pushing this one. Those flying out of YSBK and YSCN will enjoy this. Too bad CASA destroyed the Jabiru Flying School. It would be nice to rent a Jab at YSBK.
