  1. We probably all would bend it in some way but should obeying the law be entirely optional or self administering. Perhaps you can provide us with some tables and matrices of laws, penalties and people and how administration and self administration of apprehension and conviction should occur.
  2. Was it trivial? How do you get the message out about the dangers of breaking the law? You do it by finding and prosecuting politicians who cheat on their allowances, their tax, and rort their responsibilities. There is nothing served by bailing up a 10 year old (it only brings dirision on the law and the cops). Pauline gets paid $200 thousand plus allowances and perks to make the laws. If you are in that position you should respect the laws and obey them, everyone one else is expected to, why not Pauline? If she wants to be part of making the laws then she shouldn't expect any mercy if she breaks the law (beside she can afford the fine).
  3. Just as long as you remember that humans are recalcitrant and inconsistent when you come to preparedness and problem solving. Things mechanical will generally fail in predictable ways - humans are all over the shop, refusing to see the obvious, lying to each other and worst of all, lying to themselves!!
  4. 95.10 - 2011 has been repealed The others talk only about built up areas. CTA/CTR isn't about built up areas, but they may co-exist. For CTA/CTR (in general) you need an RPC to pilot the plane and you need at least an RPL, or higher, with CTA/CTR endos and a current CASA medical to be in class A, B, C or D airspace. You don't need an Xsponder for Class D but you will for Class E. For built up areas in a Rotax you could talk to Bert Flood, the importer, about which Rotax engine is allowed over built-up areas.

  6. Not quite true. If the half not reported were the Rotax failures then the would be a problem but if the under-reported was across the band then the analysts could do some extrapolation. The fact that something happened is as equal importance as the rate of occurance for some events.
  7. You missed the under-employed. With greater casualisation of the workforce, through no fault of their own, many people are now not able to meet their income and career expectations. It seems that wages growth is at an all-time low (but rents are going through the roof.

  9. You might find that your AgBike is only using a fraction of peak RPM most of the time, unlike an aero engine.

  13. I'm biased and the advantage of flying with Dave's is that it is a 7 day operation. I also fly the Foxbats, also a good plane. Enjoy yourself.

  15. It would be interesting to see a fuel rate graph over time in a variety of driving situations. My fuel use on inner west roads is a lot more than when cruising the highways, fuel rate being a crude measure of power expended. (Perhaps I could claim that the savings in petrol pays for my flying whenever I drive out to The Oaks)
  16. The dynamics would change if you replaced wheels with an air cushion. That would require the engine to work a lot harder 100% of the time.
  17. You can either take the training you have had and bend it to suit your situation or you can be untrained in anything and be caught like a rabbit in the spot light. I have a fear that this discussion is heading in the direction of "professionals built the Titanic, amateurs built the Arc". Scully was highly trained and that training informed about where he should and shouldn't go.

  19. You may well find a lack of malicious intent in quite a few cases of manslaughter but that doesn't necessarily mean that those found guilty shouldn't get a custodial sentence.
  20. No, not pollywaffles. Though it is character building the first time. You learn to set full flaps but leave your hand on the handle for a few moments to ease the bang if it releases.
  21. Inspections are part of doing the job just the same as proper training to do the job correctly the first time.
  22. Once you get beyond early manufacturing and assembly faults the failures will be reduced but will gradually increase in rate due to wear and tear and stress and operator error until some critical component fails and brings down the whole lot. It is a bathtub failure curve.
  23. I am using the Android version on a 7" and 9" Nexus. It works well for me. Setting and flying the plan are quite easy. There are some things we are still waiting for but product is still very advanced. There is not enough in it to make me want an apple.
  24. Oh ye of little faith!! The train to Sydney airport works ok. The biggest complaint is the airport station access fee which can make it cheaper to hack a cab to the city if there are more than 2 people. The biggest money spinner at an airport is the parking - The operators wouldn't give a rat's if there were no planes at all.
