  1. And no lead AvGas. Australia and a lot of the world have cleaned up petrol, both from lead and other nasties, while AvGas has only come down to LL. Maybe our kids are falling down the academic ratings because their parents are renovating old houses and exposing the family to lead poisoning.
  2. Volcanoes - much heat, ash, rocks and molten magma but not much CO2, the atmospheric blanket keeping heat. see Do volcanoes emit more CO2 than humans?. Other than that, burning fossil fuels and land clearing exacerbate CO2 production creating a more dense blanket and causing a steady, beyond cyclic, temperature rise. I live under a YSSY flight path where they line up along my side fence at 1500 feet outbound to exotic climes. They are active from 6am to 10.30pm. I am prepared to accept them as I use them and an overflight reminds me that tomorrow may well be another flying day. However there are many who bought homes well before the NS runways were built who cop it as well. Some of them may well have worked in glass factories all their lives and would like a little respite from the industrial grade noise that has followed them into old age. 6000 feet, I would call that an ambit claim. The greens don't have any airspace management expertise and it would be up to these people to work out sensible solutions to real problems. It may well be that some GA Lanes over Melbourne might be a good idea. Gspace over Sydney - forget it, doesn't exist til you get beyond Bankstown and AirService are talking about bring Espace down to 1200ft in that area. That will really bugger ultralights who don't have transponders. Another plane just went over - useless bugger can't fly, missed my side fence by 50metres
  3. They do - in the context of Bio diesel and Bio AvGas
  4. Well there you go Bex. There are a hell of a lot of people in the Sydney Conurbation - if the danes can deliver renewables into that population in that tiny place there really isn't much of an argument for not delivering it into Sydney. If Barney wants coal fired he can truck it up from Schenwa to a power station in Armidale. Or if Duncan wants it they can ship coal down to a power station in Crookwell.
  5. And it seems to be the professional pilots, who have much experience, jambing a 10 sec transmission into 5, making it unintelligible..
  6. Yenn's was attributed to AIP, yours to CAAP - GOOD. Dinga's wasn't attributed to anything - NOT SO GOOD.
  7. Where is this from? AIP is prime, CAAP is advisory.
  8. One way to fix this is to live under a flight path (1500 feet) then you will never be bothered by those pesky little planes. $100 mill. Not very much when you look at the land degradation in, say, the Murray-Darling Basin. The Country Party has been bribing and mugging the Liberals for years but, usually, behind closed doors.
  9. Outside the vicinity of an ALA one should use the area frequency, for safety. There is always someone, whose job it is to care, listeningng on area. Not always the case with CTAF.
  10. And who/what was the maintainer, what petrol, what was the environment (Hot, training, altitude) etc
  11. How come everyone blames the engine and not the maintainer, petrol or operator?
  12. Apology accepted Rick. Cheers
  13. The board does however deserve a bollocking over the review and updating of a lot of docos. CASA does provide an NPRM process. There is no reason why RAA can't. State your aims, write up the philosophy, get that OK'd, get the lawyers to write the rules, get that OK'd, submit to the higher authority. The process should be transparent all the way.
  14. We Arent allowed to shoot or Lynch people any more.
  15. Drones threatening the lives of emergency personnel | Flight Safety Australia
  16. I live on the north flight path out of Mascot. Planes regularly come over my place at about 1500 feet and, closer to the airport, much lower. There are increasing instances of big bird drones being purchase direct and off eBay and not accompanied by the CASA safe operation notices. While there are reduced safety factors operating drones further out, in the inner city and close to airports there are safety issues from things like laser pointers, kids motor bikes and the like being operated by young kids, inexperienced adults and lunatics. There are issues with the radio control, mechanicals and battery packs of some of the imports and a simple examination by an untrained layperson is insufficient to provide qualified approval to the operation of every drone. One is not sure that the purchaser of the hot dog had had any training or even if his drone was fit for purpose but I guess facing a possible $9000 fine might give some of them pause and have them consider whether they really, really should "just do it". There are some really really stupid people out there and they are the ones who don't need or deserve any encouragements.
  17. Scott, you could have been someone from PPRUNE masquerading as one of the noble breed of Rec Pilots:cheezy grin: In the event though you did reveal yourself. My name is Colin Jones 0439 979 950. And in any event, not knowing who you were, I didn't call down the dogs of war on your brother. Keep well Col.
  18. Scott, pleased to meet you. Col
  19. Pretty hard to easily sue you since Bull is probably not your real name. Most of the rest of the serious contributors use names in plain view or easily detectible.
  20. Line Maintenance - Flight Line Maintenance in Aviation DefinitionLine Maintenance generally refers to minor, unscheduled or scheduled maintenance carried out on aircraft that includes: Any unscheduled maintenance resulting from unforeseen events Scheduled checks that contain servicing and/or inspections that do not require specialized training, equipment, or facilities. In service; and that is preparing for its first flight in service Maintenance performed on aircraft after a period of being out of service (such as aircraft in storage) Maintenance on en route aircraft that are stopped before their next flight including Servicing or repair between successive flights Preparing and readying an aircraft for flight during a period of service Maintenance activities being performed to ensure that the aircraft is airworthy and fit for flight.
  21. And you can always build up hours under lower priced RAA conditions. Under the hood will be CASA, I'm not sure about incipient spin recovery, you might have to do that under RAA.
  22. Who is Alban Tafili?
  23. As I recall glider pilots are offered a licence under part 60 that is ICAO compliant so that pilots can do their stuff overseas - as it is with the RPL and PPL. www.casa.gov.au/standard-page/licence-types
  24. The RAA ASIC fee is cost neutral and not subsidised anymore. The handling costs of an ASIC application is not trivial - and if there are complexities in issuing any endos then perhaps there should be handling fee.
  25. For 206,000 Q points will get you a Bluetooth A20. Street purchase price $1,395.00. I'm not sure why you would need a Bluetooth adapter
