  1. Nah mine is not that new- it is old school XP
  2. Geoff your problem is a fundamental misunderstanding of electrical systems. Don't you know your electrical system was stuffed- it must be you let out the majic smoke:rofl:Lord Lucas Prince of Darkness invented such a system. In seriousness just use a Li-iron battery and no smoke problems exist. SLA are in fact not sealed at all- they have a cover that can be removed carefully and underneath it has caps- one per cell- so six in this case. It probably was overcharged by the system and lost some fluid and hence died a thirsty death. You can add some proper fluid and recharge it back to life- I have done this on many SLA batteries. But do not overfil or overcharge or it will boil off the fluid.
  3. To be kind to the poor pilots and taking into account a student pilot....................if you are practicing forced landings, it is important to set yourself up properly as if it is a real situation- which it apparently changed to. So I give some points minus for execution and some points plus for surviving.
  4. The Dragon is a beautiful aircraft. I don't know of any aircraft that can survive going from VMC to IMC to cummulus granite. Those clouds of rock are a definite party stopper
  5. AS far as I am aware- these motorcycle type lithium batteries are a completely different set up to the nasty flammable Samsung type and that is a issue of them overcharging to the point of combustion. The phone use its own circuitry to manage the charge- but the bike type battery has a internal circuit to manage it all. The bike style ones are chargeable by the normal car type chargers, alternator rectified systems etc that have charged lead batteries for years. They do however not accept being charged by the model type lithium chargers- that model aircraft use and by high impulse chargers- which is what Yenn means I think. Why rotax might use this type of system I do not know. I thought it was just a normal AC alternator then a rectifier charging circuit.
  6. Here is the equivalent lithium polymer battery to suit your need of 300 cold cranking amps LFPUQ-9 It weighs 1.7kg total And another at 320 cca and 1.1 kg LH9-B
  7. Don't forget to make sure it has the bolt down terminals like the original- not the crappy car type ones that oxidize and cause all manner of grief. If you wish to save some weight you could always look into a lithium polymer battery. All the rage in sportsbikes these days and you would swear it is a empty plastic case. But damn do they have a lot of grunt. Also used in race cars etc. On something like a old Moto Guzzi or BMW twin it saves about 8kg and a heap of space. They also have the added benefit of keeping charge- no flying for six months? no problems it will still have about 98% charge.
  8. Thanks Red. But I have a cunning plan.........................I do have a identical twin brother.........who is sound of mind (sort of), has better body parts and has signed the organ donor form...................and has a wallet with stuff in it.
  9. Yep- love it. That is the sort of batshit crazy airshow I would love to see here.
  10. What about a selection for us poor buggers that for either medical or financial reasons are currently grounded? Cause thats me- I hold me head in deep deep shame. Just waiting for a majic genie that makes me sound of body, mind and money:sad angel:
  11. Nah............... great grandaddy invented one of those...........no bloody market for it
  12. Yep.......................................a complete utter balls up. And the cameraman, appears to like filming too much...........close call for a Darwin award I say. He could have easily have been part of it had the pilot continued on one of his many paths.
  13. Still the same Ian
  14. Thanks Alan- you can steer a computer unlike me- I make Luddites seem tech savvy
  15. Sorry does not do it just opens a new browser box.. Must be my old machine has a ghost or ten.
  16. Congraulations. Me I would have this track- beware strange coffee. Learn To Fly - Foo Fighters
  17. Must be a glitch related to my browser or system as they do not show for me. I am using ancient XP windows I would send a screen shot but do not know how
  18. Yes they are a beautiful device- and damn expensive for a quality one. They are available in many profiles just like spokeshaves and sizes for that matter. Same as planes- they are not all the same and can have many different blade profiles and lengths. In my collection I have planes from smaller than palm size (razor plane) to 24 inch long and six inch wide and varying profiles. Even have some rebate planes- took me a while to work those ones out. Oh a a dozen or so Swedish saws- beautiful things. I love old school wood working tools. But sadly all dads drawknives are missing. Some say that spokeshaves are no good for really knotty wood- yes but do we really want to make a prop from knotty knarly hardwood?
  19. Yeah I like the jailhouse idea. I do think the 'abuse of caution' fine of losing all likes is a bit heavy handed though. Yes, we have some that can stretch the rules a bit and can be less than credible but the caution can be used subjectively and not just in relation to air matters. Also they may be very likeable, but just have a bee in the bonnet over a particular issue. A total loss of likes would make them seem completely unlikable, or that their views should totally be disregarded but they may normally be a great and helpful contributor. Can we also have a "batshit crazy idea" one? Or maybe "caveat emptor"
  20. Is seems one fix creates another problem........ Now my membership box no longer shows the likes number or mine nor anyone else. I can understand mine, as at times I can be less than likeable - being a cranky bugger. But everyone else is generally very likeable.
  21. Yes the Adze comes in all shapes and angles to attack the unsuspecting user. They are a fiendishly clever flesh removing device. Apparently also capable of removing wood as well.
  22. For below stall speed- black would be appropriate if you could see the damn colour. Lets face it fly below stall speed and things can get very dark indeed
  23. You mean like this little scratch..........
  24. there is also a more delicate weapon of choice- a draw knife
  25. Ah- that would be great but I do not see such a thing hence the problem.
