Whilst there are some real dropkicks out flying, and are waiting for the Darwin award. They, like any two year old knows when to hide or keep quiet when they really stuff up. If they lack the integrity to follow rules and keep things safe including for others, they sure ain't going to admit it. Bit like expecting Scomo to admit to anything.

Did I hear the news correctly?
Litespeed replied to flying dog's topic in Aircraft Incidents and Accidents
Apparently it burned the bottom of the chopper as well. Defence has not admitted fault at all. They have said possibly. ie possibly done by the tooth fairy. Typical weasel words to deflect liability. Same as live firing exercises that cause fires. Never ever admit actual blame. Defence are a law to themselves and are never ever to blame, just ask them. -
Another Cessna? not fatal thank goodness

I can tell you just looking at the plane, exactly what went wrong........................... The engine fell off? -

Its actually the big fire outside of Canberra. Started by a military chopper landing with search light on. Long grass, dead dry, massive heat from light......bingo fire. -
RFS air tanker feared crashed in NSW
Litespeed replied to BirdDog's topic in Aircraft Incidents and Accidents
What the hell is happening? Yesterday the crash video appeared then was taken down. Is this YouTube allowing censorship or something else? Then today a new member who joined in the night has sent me a pm about accessing the video and saying that I " Litespeed" have a fuller version, that ATSB want from me. And that they are upset I published it. What the f... The person claims they are from Severe Weather Australia and their news director. This is fishy as hell. If they are actual media- why are they members? Why me, I have no video and did not post one. Did anyone else get this pm? Are we now to be targeted for having an opinion? His name is Daniel Shaw. -
'Flight shaming' and the ethics of recreational flying?
Litespeed replied to NT5224's topic in AUS/NZ General Discussion
The biggest problem is we are living on carbon and environments that took millions of years to get here. If we only consumed the resources our planet can produce in our life time we would be ok. But you can't introduce millions of years of carbon resources in 200 years and not expect trouble. To think otherwise is either pure selfishness or complete ignorance. -

Well said, Except we are already feeling it, it is happening right this moment. Global heating- a better name than climate change is getting into more obvious effects but has been with us since anyone here was born. We just had not reach such a critical point where the heating effects caused such large changes in climatic systems. It is pushing more than 50 years since smart minds new this was a huge problem and 30 since the public were generally aware. The pollies and big oil have known since the beginning. In every possible way not just with Co2, us humans have completely changed the planet that sustains all known life. And it is a very complex ecological system. Anyone notice the big dust storms? Thats, billions of tons of soil from mainly farms disturbed soil been lost. That soil took 100's to thousands of years to form. Yes we can pour resources into helping but the soil we lost is gone. We have the oldest and most impoverished soils in the world, we must manage soil better and not farm marginal land that is easily damaged. And our rivers- dryed up zones of dead fish and now the others have copped ash and that is killing as well. The environment when I was born is vastly changed today and all for the worse. With the exception of less rabbits. But we didn't have to wreck the joint for that small change. Yes, we have cleaned up some really nasty chemical plants of days past but the poison still exists, we just moved it. In 1964 the seminal "Silent Spring" by DR Racheal Carson was published, she proved all the connections of DDT use and the collapse of insects and bird numbers. We were covering the planet in toxins and killing off life at a massive rate for a short term chemical fix for mosquitoes and some ag pests. 7 years later DDT was banned in the US. WE are still making and using similar chemicals and decimating insect life and the birds that eat these bio accumulators. No fish on the planet, even in the Antarctic is free from their traces. Same with microplastics and bigger bits, Antarctic fish have them too. We are already in the pot, and it is getting close to boiling. -

You seem to be very happy to quote figures that don't stack up. Besides the fact we are the biggest exporter in the world in coal and LNG both which create huge emissions and pollution in mining and usage. Arguments, they will buy it elsewhere are not entirely true, we have been pushing coal real hard and CNG and done political hit jobs on any green competition on a global scale, this has been for decades. Your wish to do nothing, in the knowledge that it is a issue, does not change the actual effect we have on the planet. Its like living in world where murder is legal and refusing to allow it to become illegal, because others have murder in their country. OR how about refusing to ban machine guns to angry blokes, because they are cheap and available in Africa? -

Congratulations for gratuitous use of strawman argument to abdicate all responsibility. No one is saying we alone have to do that. Nor that if we did the rest of the planet would do nothing. That is plain stupid. -

I don't really see the use of our scale planes as a huge issue on the scale of overall emissions. However, like any fuel use it still counts if it fossilised carbon based. As a community and planet wide, we all need to do our bit to reduce our emissions. Reducing unessary trips in the car can save heaps. Flying to do work or even holidaying can be a great deal lower emissions in a Jabiru compared to a big car or 4wd. It all depends on the destination etc. I do not fly in big jets, haven't for over a decade. Don't need to, so ... -

The whole fuel use vs utility vs need to get somewhere vs other power vs type of vehicle etc is complex. The average blokes fishing cum pleasure boat can have a 100hp and some even 500hp all very thirsty if given their head. 35 Lt a hour per 100 HP at aprrox 70 % load. So heaps, but going slow very little. The petrol powered gin palace can use 200 litre s a hour at med speeds. But, the smaller four stroke 10-15 hp and better two stroke motors are great economy wise and can get 4-5 nm a litre on a efficient light little boat at 10 knots, that's what mine does. The best for bigger boats are displacement hulls, they have a hull speed dependant on length and shape. Generally 6-10 knts and all have diesels. The best tend to be sailboat or motor sailers . on motor alone, even with a 120 HP ford Lees, 1 litre per nm is the av. The bigger and longer boats surprisingly don't use huge amounts. But if it runs a old two stroke diesel they are thirsty and the same machine might be 1.5 litres nm. The best by a ocean mile is a Gardener, the best big boat motor in the world. The same boat with a 'G' spot will only use 0.5 litres nm. So huge difference. The above figures are for a 52 ft ferro sailboat weighing 32 tons. So very cheap to move such a heavy thing, but the weight gives a very comfy boat at sea. Nothing can travel the world with less impact than a sailing ship. Which is where I will be heading soon. Living off the ocean using the winds, solar power and a very efficient diesel can be a very fun life and low impact on nature and the wallet. And it can be run on biodiesel, chip oil etc if processed properly. So in theory can be completely fossil fuel free. -

Very sad, especially for the loved ones of these brave men. -
Anyone in AU's? I don't think so. They are a rare build. I think they used his own Taylor impregnated paper with resin instead of normal skins. Good luck

I am hard enough. Harden up?? I didn't squeal when the actual historical truth was presented. To choose which facts or history you believe is not relevant, reality does not change just because you do not like it. If you did not agree with anything I said- then discuss. Don't have a hissy fit and just say its all lefty stuff we don't want to hear. I did not say the right wingers are all bad, all employers were bad nor all of government is bad. Intelligent capitalism can be a very good thing. It am not shoving it down anyone's throat. I certainly did not say they eat the young nor that the left never gets it wrong. Guess I was a bit too slow to jump the gun, but I like to think then aim.

I think what they are really saying is this..... "We have learnt from legacy players in aviation to charge like a wounded bull even if our numbers made, costs and actual engineering prowess indicate otherwise. We have little wish to be a fair price as we own the market bar that pesky Jabiru. We design our products for maximum return via any parts prices, almost complete replacement of the engine in a rebuild cost and parts wise. We are happy to screw you at all stages of ownership and have worked the market to ensure you will happily just buy another engine at even bigger prices when things get close to a big bill. You can trust our research and development guys are developing safer sounding ways to extract more profit from your wallet pain"

I think if you re read what you wrote, you gave a very distinct impression. Unfortunately some are fooled easier than others. In all my career I never, ever discriminated in my time, tuition, scientific work or health care work in extreme risk environments- as in putting your lifes work and actual life on the line daily for 15 years. Everyone deserved and got the same level of attention and care/knowledge and or advocacy irrespective of their or parents bank balance or views. And never received a cent for much of it. My last paid Job was a real cracker- when the cops were called, they would often say- Mate "what the fark do you expect us to do, I have a taser, gun and hand cuffs. I am not going in that house without using at least 2" Then I would be going in and no weapons. Just a compassionate mind and decades of experience in conflict resolution/mental health/developmental disability and real time at the university of hard knocks. I never had a vest , must be because they didn't have a pink one maybe? My last workplace of 7 years saw me watch 75 staff either leave from stress, or assaults some life changing. Yep, us lefty pinko nancy boys just suck off the public tit and get scared by a spider. Wouldn't know a hard days work and risk unless it bit em on the bum Gee Butch, must be hard slaving away, so the rest of the world can enjoy life and drink from your swill bucket. And all those bloody employees insisting on rights like fairness, a safe work environment and a million other "lefty pinko commie socialist clap trap" things. It must make your skin crackle.

Thanks Kyle and Nev. Love the turbine balancer. My mate builds engines and he is anal about balancing to get the best of BMW engine to do their stuff on road and track. I know they are not quick nor cheap. The $50 is for a factory like Rotax to incorporate in the production line. It could be more but depends on the automation etc 50,000 engines is enough to justify the investment.

Wtf? I never said Farmers were at fault did I? There is nothing socialist about wanting the promised education that our government says is a right to any who have the intellect. Nor wanting the funding to go to the public sector, its public money remember. Just because a farmer does not qualify , does not mean a great deal, except the rules where changed by Howard in 1996 in the first days of power. The changes dumped huge numbers of kids including farmers offspring from being eligible. I know, I worked at the angry end of it all, advocating for students to get Austudy to continue at uni. Even worse I personally had reviews made to get over 50 farmers sons and daughters get Austudy, when they read the rules unfairly to discriminate against students. I certainly did not care if they had views left or right wing. Don't sprout your angry bashing of workers or students or scientists and other education workers. Your reply tends to indicate you feel a unusual sense of entitlement or anger against those who arent bussiness owners. Is it because your a farmer or a LNP voter? Neither entitles you to more access to government services than any one else. Nor better funding for their education. If that's socialist, I am happy to be called that. Its actually just fairness. PS I haven't had paid holidays or super from fulltime work in a decade. My super wouldn't buy a damn cheap new 4wd. People in glass houses?
-
At that price, the balance is the huge wad of cash in profit. Why bother balance the new ones? They got away with it so far.
-
You could get valves cheaper for a Ferrari engine. And don't give me shite about low build numbers. One of the most expensive to rebuild engines I know of, a BMW M5 3.6 is a masterpiece and rare. But parts are still cheaper.
-
$25,000 on a new Rotax, with titanium parts prices......... Finding the box its in cost $200...... Impressive.... Discovering they can't be bothered doing a $50 balance of engine internals? Priceless. I expect the Jabiru are balanced, they run like a sewing machine when on EFI, esp the silky six.

Vote one Jabawocky. They are probably the best trainer out there. They teach pilots not fools who just think they can fly. You fly them all the time, no laziness. They are responsive and teach hands on skills like few others. They will accept a bit of poor piloting but will let you know it. That is important, you know your skill level- no over confidant pilots graduate with a Jabawocky. Yes you can damage them training as should be the case, but they are easily repaired and don't fall apart after hard use not been reported. You can kill yourself in a Jabawocky when training but you really really have to try hard. Many a repairable Jabiru incident is a write off or fatal in lessor aircraft. In a world of no new 152 Cessna's the Jabawocky is the training aircraft. Also cheaper, locally made and tough as nails.
-
The whole training field has been a debacle of epic neo liberal proportions. Since 3/1996 when Howard got in, the writing has been on the wall. Every effort has been made to starve " the left wing" uni and training system to a market only right wing profit system. Student unions were effectively banned and so thus their advocacy of students and quality. This was all part Of a long term LNP plan. At same time doors were opened to mass foreign students, quality fell through the floor and the gov were fully aware. Fees were drastically raised, Austudy severely restricted, and Academics discovered tenure was only for the connected few. The gov of Lnp loaded uni boards and regulators with LNP hacks . A lot of the new RTO's, surprise had previous political mates as owners. Billions were cut from budgets and handed over to private providers for very very very small results. As soon as they could the LNP gamed the federal training and state Tafe by insisting they competed with private to get funding. As their ideology says public is evil and must be stopped from getting money the privateers want. States bought this bullshite and opened education to competition but fully in knowledge the public system was hobbled by the rules. Result Tafe is a one legged goat in a paddock of gold plated sharks. We have trashed our whole education system, and quality is what luxury car you drive. Today is still a captured system. Just like social services and medicine, if they can't ban it they will wreck it by private profiteering. The gov does not want anyone but the rich getting a quality education, it reinforces their power for generations. If you don't have rich parents you will work lots of jobs to pay rent and bills to study or last long enough to get AUstudy. Most wait 6 months for approval by which time they might have left uni. The rich are deserving - just ask them

Cirrus Jet burns at Santa Monica Caalifornia

That is a new version convertible. Open top flying for the jet age. Got wings, got engine......should fly fine.
